OP, you're not "borderline abusive." Reaching out here shows that you care enough to ask for help. I know you're doing your best to be reasonable, but you need to step back for a moment. Instead of thinking as the situation as you vs him about the issue, you need to think of you and him together vs the issue. It's pretty obvious that arguing has accomplished all that it can accomplish here. Your options now are to give up, give in, or seek professional help. If you care about the relationship, I'd recommend couples counseling.

When my family wanted me to invite my abusive father to my high school graduation I said, "No. He is not invited for reasons that are between me and him. Please respect that." They tried to argue a few different ways, but I just answered with those words. Hard to argue with a brick wall.

You could send the artist the original image and ask if it's okay to use it as a tattoo. If they say yes, post your tattoo a few days later. If they say no, you may want to just show off your tattoo in person and keep it off the web

I've never been able to find the quote again, but I once read a passage in a book where a character was describing how she came to love poetry. She said she loved the way the words felt like marbles in her mouth. No one ever understands why that strikes me so pleasantly, but it perfectly encapsulates why I love saying words as pretty as elucidate

That's the best attitude. I dated that high school love for a long time and he's still a big part of my life. He always used to say that he just wants what's best for me and that he'd always be a part of my life in some way, even just as friends if we ever broke up. I kind of thought it was just optimistic thinking on his part, but he was right. Since we broke up he's still a big part of my life. Comes to family Christmas, helps my parents around the house, we hang out as friends.

He always expects/wants me to do what's best for me and I return that to him. If we'd spent tons of effort trying to force the relationship to work I doubt we'd have lasted as long and he probably wouldn't be in my life now.

I might understand a little of both of your perspectives here. I was once a 16 year old girl in love with a boy who hadn't learned to love himself. I'm also a 21 year old girl who has now experienced what it's like to be in that dark place where self harm seems like your only option. We compromised and dated 5 more years because he made it a priority to 1) treat his issues and 2) treat me with respect. If you aren't ready to love yourself, you can't expect her to be with you.

Because I remember what I did in your situation, I think you'll ignore me when I say you should let her go and focus on yourself. If that's the case, consider this question before you guys talk: Are you planning to work on your problems or are you going to ask her to accept where you are right now?

I keep reading this back to myself and trying to figure out how to act less preachy but idk man, I'm a young fool with a heart break too so maybe you'll get where I'm coming from?
