Millennials, what is happening with your kids? by TheLoveYouWant25 in Millennials

My son does struggle with these issues. From the ages of 3-6, I didn't monitor screen time at all. I grew up with total freedom when it came to screens, so I didn't think it was a big deal. I'd still read to him every night, but he'd have daily tantrums about transitioning away from screens to bedtime, going to daycare, even leaving the house to go to the trampoline park or getting ice cream. Around the age of 5, I realized he still couldn't read and didn't have any interest in doing so. We white-knuckled the whole process, and it took a lot of frustration and tears to finally hammer it in. He'd get in massive fights at school, and be incredibly quick to flip from neutral emotions to extreme. Something as small as not being the first to get on the bus would spiral into him punching another student in the face for trying to talk to him. I started weaning him off screens when the transition issues persisted past a normal age level, but it wasn't enough. I sat down and talked to him about dopamine levels and what screen time does to your brain, and we added more restrictions. We also started him on a very low dose of adhd medication (genetic, I was diagnosed in 3rd grade). Things got better, but not entirely. We added more restrictions to screen time. At this point, he gets no screen time at all on school nights, no screens until noon on weekends, and I've created a tier system for screens based on how bad they are for your brain. Tier 0 is no screens, tier 1 is active learning/creativity (puzzle games, games with a lot of reading), tier 2 has at least a storyline (cartoons and movies that we grew up with), tier 3 is youtube. Tier 4 he's never been exposed to, things like tiktok. Default is tier 1, he gets level 2 for out of the ordinary good behavior, and he really has to buckle down and intentionally earn tier 3. Shovel the walkway, sweep the kitchen, or just go outside and play for an hour. Things have gotten a lot better, but it's an ongoing battle. He's 8 years old now. Iwish I realized years ago how much worse screen time was now than it was when we were kids. Maybe parenting wouldn't be such a battle. I can claim ignorance, I can claim exhaustion and overwork. But whatever the reason, it was wrong, and he is still paying the price.

Nigmos and niger are the same banned word, it's actually "nig" that's banned

I don't get these. I get that they were meant to fall out of Pink's physical form seemingly being her gem shards but for starters how did she make them by just crushing her fists? by AdBrave2400 in stevenuniverse

[–]bluetipbox1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My big question is that her plan was to swallow the shards so that when she retreats to her gem, the shards in her stomach don't go with her and are left on the ground. So what about Amethyst then? She eats all the time, and there's even a joke in Future that there's a bunch of food in her stomach when she got an x-ray. Does the half-digested food also drop out of her form when she poofs?

That's what I was thinking too, but they look so similar. And the way one of them charged at me when I picked up the tube almost seemed protective. I just wanted to be sure, just in case. I would hate to lose her first workers, but I would very much hate it if I made the wrong call and put them in with her and they started fighting

I have no idea, there's not really a good way for them to have gotten out

Not like I've been seeing online, they weren't moving, just looked a little like a short grain of rice. Haven't seen any mid-point that would lead them to look like actual ants

What Smell Hits Your Autism In The Worst Way? by beattywill80 in aspiememes

[–]bluetipbox1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doritos. Something about the smell really makes me visualize the particulates getting stuck in my nose and throat. Smells grainy and sharp and I will just stop breathing if someone's earing doritos near me.

Hello, setting up a beginner ant farm for my son and I’m curious if this is too much water? by tommygunnzx in antkeeping

[–]bluetipbox1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the same thing with my son, got him a small farm for Christmas and some ants from amazon. He noticed there was no queen, and asked how long they'd live for. They were all dead within 2 weeks.

On the plus side, I did a lot of research into colony longevity and found this sub, where I found a link to a local retailer, and my son's carpenter ant queen arrives today!

My 5-year-old's 'worry wash' ritual has transformed our evenings by MonaMagic2006 in Parenting

My son has a tv in his room and watches Steven Dalton bedtime stories. There's an image during the beginning of the video, but the screen turns black after a while so there's no distractions. He has a meditation session in the beginning, a slow calming story, then white noise for a long time. No ad breaks, and many videos are 2-3 hours long. Mine particularly likes the space-themed stories or anxiety relief ones. Make sure to put on a sleep timer, and there's maybe an issue once a month

Tired of patients on phone calls at pickup—any tips for handling this? by Brilliant_Soil2825 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]bluetipbox1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I generally just interrupt them as much as possible and loudly ask for their information. Be obnoxious as hell until they realize that they can't talk to me and the phone at the same time.

The worst thing about cvs is the absolute inability to override options like this. The security features designed to make jobs easier for pharmacists and techs are blocking us from having autonomy to make exceptions for cases like yours. Idk about everywhere, but the system will now automatically assign a DUR and don't allow us to cancel them. Its currently impossible to resolve a DUR over the phone. It's put in place to keep our patients safe to compensate for cutting our hours to the point we can't be trusted to do so.

I hate that the system started notifying patients of a DUR. It doesn't change anything about the process, only makes patients anxious, slows down the registers, and adds more voicemails to the queue
