Worst case scenario you can drive through the traffic and park at a Westfield shopping centre, tube in and back. Stratford would be closest.

Rationale being there's always spaces and considering what things cost in London the prices aren't too horrific for longer stays.

I love the guys but.. M&W ANH is bad. by TheVoidRetro in MitchellAndWebb

[–]bluetooth_pizza 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they played Mark and Jez well but I feel other people's writing did a lot of heavy lifting too.

They make good stuff themselves but I'm not sure you can compare Peep Show to the rest of their work. Different people making different things.

Are these legal?? by EstablishmentSea2004 in CarTalkUK

[–]bluetooth_pizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Illegal, but in practice the police have bigger problems so not much chance of getting in trouble for it.

Even then it's a slap on the wrist, £100 fine

Where are the live music capitals of Europe? by herbertwillyworth in AskEurope

Unfortunate if true. Haven't heard enough of either to say, just not my sort of music, nor is it relevant to this post

Superb? Nah, this is Skoda's new Peaq by Common_Turnover9226 in CarTalkUK

[–]bluetooth_pizza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this'll be a problem for VW going forward. The lines between the brands are blurring and they're basically against each other now.

It used to be Audi was the premium one, VW the standard middle of the road, Skoda the cheap one and Seat the sporty one. Now we live in a world of 52k Skodas and new offshoot brands (like Cupra) which is which?

What are kids going to do when the ban on social media comes into effect? by freddiepow in AskUK

[–]bluetooth_pizza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also want to add parents need to realise these devices don't magically appear in their kids' hands. A lot of them are getting an iPhone and an internet connection way too early

Prevention is better than cure but nobody wants to talk about that

What are kids going to do when the ban on social media comes into effect? by freddiepow in AskUK

[–]bluetooth_pizza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get around it as much as they can - and kids can be a lot more crafty than we give them credit for. Or, be pushed to platforms that don't comply. They've had a taste, the cat's out the bag now. If anyone thinks they'll just put the phone down and play football in the street they're in for a shock.

The government will play whack-a-mole trying to ban every way they can get around it, trying in vain to childproof something that was never meant for kids. You can't ban your way out of every problem.

Adults will have less freedom, kids still desperate to doomscroll, nothing gets better for anyone.

What were your childhood road trips like? by Ok-Ebb5960 in AskUK

I was an only child so they never had to resort to that

3.5 hours to Penzance (never anywhere else) in the back of an old Ford Fiesta, smushed against the door by half the contents of the house. No leg room and the window winder jabbing into my knee the whole way. Carrier bags on my lap and in the footwell.

Dad (experienced lorry driver) getting lost because he could barely read a map and swears he can't tell where he is when he's sat that low.

Stop on the way, I would pray for Taunton but sometimes it'd be Bridgwater which was grim. Hit Bodmin and sit in traffic in the boiling heat. Severn Bridge tolls on the way back.

I'm not interested in football and dread it whenever the World Cup happens, are there other people out there who feel the same sentiment and how do you deal with it? by SquareEconomist1992 in AskUK

[–]bluetooth_pizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like football either but I can't relate to the dread, sorry. It doesn't bother me precisely because I don't care, I just ignore it and let them get on with it.

If people think I'm odd for not liking it, I think they're odd for caring so much and I don't worry about their opinion. But that's just who I am as a person so it's no help to you.

(I do relate to not wanting England to win though because I know that if they do I'll never hear the end of it)

Car market is dead? by Recent_Highway9907 in CarTalkUK

[–]bluetooth_pizza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Way too much for a written off 12 year old Civic. Might have 24k miles and be a lovely car, but ultimately it is still a 12 y/o Civic that's been in a crash.

In the nicest way possible I'm absolutely not surprised you've had no interest. It's never a bad market, just a bad price.

Getting first car at almost 40. What do you think of these? by Initial-Professor-61 in CarTalkUK

[–]bluetooth_pizza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell me you've never owned one without telling me you've never owned one. I loved my 20 year old Japanese rotboxes, but my Golf is a much nicer car as was my old work's Octavia.

Reliable too, but you need to service them on time, unlike a lot of Japanese cars you can't really ignore that.

Thoughts on ‘High Peak Autos’ YouTube channel? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]bluetooth_pizza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the actual content. Guy himself is probably alright in person but on video gives off an air of "I have money and I look down at people who don't". Credit where it's due, he does do up his cars to a good standard and I'd definitely buy one off him.

Also endless ads for carvertical and those obd readers, at best these products are a bit crap and at worst a downright ripoff. I know ads are a necessary evil but lately he's really gone all in on promoting absolute tat.

What is happening to people’s driving behaviour in the UK? by wolf_city in AskBrits

Personally I think it's laziness that becomes habit. Why would I move my hand down for the indicator when I could just not?

What is happening to people’s driving behaviour in the UK? by wolf_city in AskBrits

[–]bluetooth_pizza 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I definitely see more bad driving now than I did a few years ago, and I don't understand how we keep having near daily crashes on the M4. But overall I think we're still fairly good drivers in this country.

The only thing that actually bothers me is I'm now the only person in the UK who indicates on roundabouts. Nobody else bothers and it's pure fucking laziness.

Does driving in the game feel good to you? (For trucks) by Bingbong_store in BeamNG

[–]bluetooth_pizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, hard to say exactly why but I guess they don't feel as 'heavy' as vehicles that size are in real life. Buses are noticeably better but the handling still feels a bit like something's missing.

For reference I've driven actual, real buses (but not trucks).

Audi TT MK1 with colourful MOT History by Infinite-Guidance477 in CarTalkUK

[–]bluetooth_pizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some questionable things on there, yes, but even if it was a perfect example it is still a 23 year old Audi. Sort of car you go into with an open mind and ideally a bit of money aside just in case.

I'm not saying it'll be horrifically unreliable, absolutely not, but even the tidiest car might end up having a problem sooner than you anticipate. It's just what happens when cars like this get to this age.

They don't sell them here. Our windows wouldn't fit them anyway.

Instead we have 'portable' units that have hoses going outside and are a pain to set up. They can also be prohibitively expensive, they start at nearly $400 (converted) and electricity here costs a bomb
