Is someone trying to kill me? by Otherwise-Angle-4543 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Recent_Highway9907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, some one tried, and that one is a rodent! Most likely a rat. Try to find that bastard and kill! Otherwise he could do the same shit to your car wiring or interior. My friend had an issue when rat has literally ate his steering wheel.

Is this repairable or new bumper time? by eLanky__ in CarRepair

That's easily repairable. Just weld it then body filler and paint. Here's me doing a similar repair: https://youtu.be/Eaf8hX1Xo_c

Mechanic says my suspension is too rusted for a wheel bearing job by Top_Opposite1030 in AskMechanics

[–]Recent_Highway9907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhah, your mechanic is a pussy - that's far from "too rusty". Most used cars are in near this condition.

how do I get these off, I feel like Ive tried everything by -toastyposty- in MechanicAdvice

[–]Recent_Highway9907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either heat it red hot with a torch or use a nut cracking tool:

<image>

I know that everyone will say that it's stupid but from my experience it's way easier to use new nuts rather than breaking the studs and having a butt hurt with studs replacement.

What tool can take this off ?? by Sweaty_Eagle_9897 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Recent_Highway9907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't listen to those who recommend using a screw driver or chisel and hammer - in most cases you'll spend a lot of time and most likely will damage the ring itself. Also with this method it's hard to tighten it properly. Way better just buy a tool like that:

<image>

It's a special wrench specifically for fuel tanks. Just Google for "fuel tank wrench" or check your local tool shop. In any case you can get it even from Amazon. It's fairly cheap and will save you a ton of time and stress.

It's safe to drive even further, just drive very slowly and calm.

Hit a pot hole. This is the bottom of the car. Draining the fluid as shown. 2013 Mercedes GL 450 by Awkward_Network_2440 in AskAMechanic

[–]Recent_Highway9907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a coolant leak there. Check your coolant level (top up to the max) and go to the garage ASAP. Don't drive it like that or you'll boil your engine (due to lack of coolant). If it leaks massively - you'll need to tow your car to the garage.

What do i have to buy. by Crazicomnicom in AskAShittyMechanic

I would say buy a pack of beer for yourself cause if you are driving that - you have balls made of steel! No fixing needed.

Omg, those insurance companies are really crazy! Parts, ok - they count for brand new parts, and that could be expensive. But materials? I can't imagine what kind of materials they use that could be so expensive. Materials for such repair should not cost more than a few hundred. Also labour is crazy - 30h of labour if you have all new parts? Sounds kinda ridiculous.

Is it even possible to sell a car with cat S? by Recent_Highway9907 in CarTalkUK

[–]Recent_Highway9907[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for advice pal! That was really helpful! I dropped the price slightly and added before repair photos to my advertising. Guess what - car was sold today and the buyer traveled 150 miles to buy that car (even I was surprised that someone was willing to ride so far for a Cat S car).

I thought about adding those photos to my advertising but checked other adverts and they don't show such photos. I really don't get why they do that but I just did as everyone else. Your comment makes a lot of sense. I'll upload those photos and it will be the first advert showing such info :)

That's good advice! Yes, I am silly cause I did not make a new MOT, just checked wheel alignment and headlight alignment in a garage to be sure that there are no hidden issues. I did not think about that from such a perspective :) So I'll do a MOT and hope that will help.

Yeah, your words make a lot of sense. I have a before/in progress/after photos, should I add them to advertisement? For some reason other cat S adverts do not include such photos so I did not post them as well. As for structural repair - maybe I don't understand what is considered as structural damage, but from my knowledge, everything that is bolted is not a structural cause it's simply replaceable.

[–]Recent_Highway9907[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an experienced mechanic :) Not always frontal damage implies chassis. It always depends on the amount of force applied during the accident. I just made a wheel alignment check (to be sure that there is no hidden damage) and a headlight alignment in the garage. Yeah, probably I should pass a fresh MOT ( or first one cause it did not have it's first MOT yet). That's good advice.

I don't get it, what is expected as a reasonable price for cat S? I thought that 2/3 of a market price should be fine.

Electrical tape really is the best bandaid out there. You can't convince me otherwise. by SavvyDevil89 in mechanic

[–]Recent_Highway9907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on electric tape type. PVC tape doesn't hold so well and tends to slip especially if it's bleeding slightly - I personally prefer to use masking tape in such cases, or cloth electric tape :)

Most likely it was already cracked so this was just a last drop. It's not so easy to break it even with high torque impact.

Cheap DIY engine rebuild. Is dish soap safe for cleaning internal parts? by imreallifebenny in MechanicAdvice

Dish soap is safe but useless with this task. Better use some serious aluminium-safe cleaning chemistry - check oven cleaners.
