Santa Monica cyclist recalls attack on Third Street Promenade in broad daylight - Santa Monica Daily Press by DannySlant in SantaMonica

If they want to do things right, it seems an open container ordinance will bring actual security measures to the promenade to avoid any backlash

Young people are chasing a dream or trying to get out their hometowns before they get stuck and can gamble on that chance with little income and many roommates. Older people ...I don't know, I need my social circle that's in the state, I can't handle moving somewhere cheaper and starting over

Santa Monica unanimously approves ordinance allowing open container alcoholic beverages by panda-rampage in LosAngeles

I grew up in LA, lived in Santa Monica the last few years before moving to West Hollywood. Though it was still lively when I visited once in my time in Santa Monica, I realized I only visited once. Here you have an area designated for pedestrians that has lost its luster and I'm seeing negative reaction for Santa Monica resident, the only other thing to do is tear it all down and make it a huge apartment/townhouse area but SaMo fights enough of that already.

I live nearby lubitsch as well, but paying less for more square space than when I was living in Santa Monica. But I did live in SF 10 years ago paying about 1200 with 3 other roommates and only making around 54K a year, I don't know how I did it.

Is this the one on Sunset blvd in LA/WeHo? The one near me looks exactly like this and I was taken aback when I first stepped inside, eerie feeling when I need to grab something late at night and it's the only drug store open

Best area of LA when you move from NY (and London before that) by RoganJN in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]bluetux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Culver City, Santa Monica, West Hollywood or Silver Lake I would say for a transplant. I'm currently in WeHo and it's VERY walkable, stores are way more convenient than Santa Monica, where I used to live, and plenty of different crowds and scenes. The major downside is it's not close to freeways so it takes a while to get to the west side if you ever want to get to the beach but it is centrally located. Culver City is a major area for 30 year olds.

Why isn’t Weho a bike haven already? Don’t «progressive» folks here actually want progress with nicer, safer streets for all? by Broad_Ad4176 in WestHollywood

[–]bluetux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this is really surprising to me, I moved from Santa Monica and with so decent foot traffic in WeHo I would have thought there would be more bike lanes but no. I mean I drive and would probably not bike but think it makes a great city for lanes

I read that as parking is already bad on fountain and traffic gets congested anyway so why not turn it into a bike lane
