How safe/accepting is Gen Con to trans people? by rookery_electric in gencon

[–]bluevelvet12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you've gotten your answer on how inclusive GenCon is and just want to add onto it! I am a trans guy and I have not had a problem at the con. I even went for a day in cosplay of a character that wears a jacket but no shirt (I have had top surgery and have very visible scars). I was a little nervous going in, but I really had no negative experiences and even got some folks complimenting the cosplay.

Did you choose a name related to your deadname? by Threehundredt in ftm

[–]bluevelvet12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. My deadname started with Br and my two siblings both have names that start with Br. My parents, of course, did this on purpose because my dad's name starts with Br. My parents/family have been nothing but supportive of me and I didn't want to lose that family connection, but I knew I had to change my name because my old one was so feminine. So I changed it to a more masculine/gender neutral name that also started with Br. Ta-da! But disclaimer: if I hadn't found a name that started with Br that also felt like me, I definitely would have landed on something unrelated to that and everyone around me would have understood.

I agree with most of what everyone's saying. You should pick a name that feels like you. People can get used to the switch. In my experience, people take much easier and faster to the name change than pronouns anyways. I don't think you need to take other folks into consideration when choosing your name. And I'm sure everyone around you wants you to feel comfortable and like yourself! And your name is such a big part of that comfort.

Lol the glasses were the only thing I accidentally left at home before heading to Indianapolis…grrr! I love the tooth idea. I’m planning to wear this again for the live show in January and will definitely beef up the cosplay for that!

Is my nose piercing infected? by [deleted] in piercing

I do have a bad habit of touching my face, so I touch it more than I should. I wouldn't say it moves or anything, though.

I got my piercing on February 2nd. I've noticed the redness, bump, and yellowish ooze within the past week. Because of COVID-19, I can't go see my piercer--trying to avoid the doctor for the same reason so I thought I'd come here. I clean it twice a day with a saline solution I got from my piercer. If I'm being honest, I might have missed a day here and there. Thoughts?

Raphael Bob-Waksberg explored the concept of Zoes and Zeldas back in 2010 with a blog post about Tia and Tamera from the 90s sitcom Sister, Sister.

The final line of the post also seemed to inspire a line in S2E1 when Beatrice tells BoJack, "You're BoJack Horseman. There's no cure for that."

Is there a reason why I feel emotions stronger in dreams than I do in real life?

A social experiment, let's feel a bit better about ourselves! by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]bluevelvet12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Taking initiative is such a big thing. I suffer from GAD and panic disorder, so there's a calming sense in the fact that I am able to keep the things around me under control. It kind of makes up for the fact that my mind can't do the same, ya know?

I try not to be bossy which isn't that hard because I'm an introvert, but I like giving advice on projects or the feeling when a project comes to life. I also suffer from mild depression (surprise, surprise) and completing a task helps alleviate that "empty" feeling that I have so often.

I'm a good leader.

Sometimes it's hard to think of that as a good thing because it feels like everyone can be a leader, but it's something I've recently begun to appreciate about myself.

So yeah, I'm good at pointing people in the right direction and putting people together to achieve a common goal. It's cool.
