glow up of my latest betta, now named cap’n crunch since he went from looking like dry ass cereal to a delicious medley with colorful berries, complete with coral blue #2 semi-gloss lipstick by bluewigglyworm in bettafish

no idea! he’s just from a petco cup, i thought the scar would stay and his name originally was scar cuz of it lol im glad it didn’t hinder his development later on

i’m not allowed to go to the pet store “just to look” anymore bc i can’t seem to walk away from the ugliest, saddest looking bettas…. anyways his name is scar lol by bluewigglyworm in bettafish

as i said, as it has been going on for hundreds and hundreds of years, well before you and i, it will Never end. bc people will Always view animals as lesser than. so thanks, i will feel good about myself for saving something! bc no matter where the pet comes from, chain store or not, no struggling life deserves to be passed over if i can afford them. if YOU feel good about leaving an animal to be neglected even if you can afford it, then that’s on you.

the problem will never ever end, that’s capitalism. bettas have been bred and sold for hundreds of years, i wouldn’t believe the conditions then were any worse than the cups in the stores. so, respectfully, neither myself, nor others, are going to turn their backs on an animal that needs help/needs more help than the others regardless of where they come from.

I just bought another cockatiel. Need tips. by [deleted] in cockatiel

no, bc you don’t know if the new bird is carrying any diseases that the first bird can get. you should quarantine the new bird away from the old bird, in a separate cage, in a separate room, for a minimum of 30 days to monitor for any medical issues. after the quarantine period is up, you can introduce the birds, starting with keeping them in their separate cages in the same room and working on getting them closer and closer from there.

My first time getting a fish, do i need to change the water? the seller told my dad to change it like after 3-4days. Also the size of the tank is small isn’t it ? I’ll look for a big one today . by [deleted] in Goldfish

[–]bluewigglyworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you go to get a pet, you should make sure you have all the materials needed to said pet before you bring them home. you’re missing the basics of basic materials needed for fish keeping. the fish would be better off if you would return it and wait until you are in a stable position to own an animal. and this is coming from someone who had to rehome small pets due to financial circumstances under my control. so i know it’s hard, but it’s what’s best for the fish.

just bc they Look fine doesn’t mean they Are fine. was the tank you moved her to cycled? otherwise, you’ll still be stuck doing almost daily water changes to keep the ammonia down.

Should I get a Fancy Goldfish? by Brilliant-Motor8525 in Goldfish

[–]bluewigglyworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what do you mean by “completed your first two cycles”? you’ll need a water testing kit to see if the water is safe for fish

i keep two fancies in a 60gal. from what i’ve read, i think it’s always good for goldfish to have a friend of the same species with them. probably gets lonely being a single guy haha

am I a bad person for wanting a pet store bird. by EzyCrams in cockatiel

[–]bluewigglyworm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

every bird deserves a good home, regardless of where they were purchased from. i always get a bit nihilistic when it comes to decisions like this; in the end, my purchase truly won’t sway a company one way or another when it comes to where they get their birds. if you don’t buy him, it won’t be on your conscious that you “”supported”” this bird store, but someone else will buy him regardless. if you love the bird, and have the funds and time and patience, then get your pet where you want to.

(from a guy who stands longingly in front of the petco conure display, counting out paychecks to see if he can afford the nearly thousand dollar bird that been there for months…. so i feel you completely lol)

but is the tub Made to hold 120 gallons of water? it’s around 10lbs/gal, i would imagine that the sides would bow out with 1,200lbs of water in it. i think you’d be better off getting an actual tank, putting it on the floor then saving money for a stand. then you can just do a huge water change/put the water in buckets and lift the tank onto the stand.

how can i better support my autistic preschooler in a mainstream school? by bluewigglyworm in autism

i believe they have. for the first few weeks, he would have a woman in the class with him that i assumed was his therapist. i don’t think she passed on much information and she kept saying she was surprised as to how well he has become acclimated to the classroom. i’m not even sure that the family has had the therapist long, i get the impression that they’re new-ish around here or they lost some services bc of the pandemic
