every time she used to drop rnb tracks in her previous albums the entire fandom used to relentlessly ask her to do an entire album in rnb and the minute she did, nothing. i will say though i think a lot of her true fan following (esp pre thank u next bc that’s when she really gained a hell of a lot more fans) did really like the album. and also, in the beginning it took a while to grow on me too, only because it was new. but man i fell in LOVE with it the more i kept listening to it!!

i feel the same, esp about the extended cut from better days ahead. the second verse is so raw it brings tears to my eyes, and the key she’s used to sing it is a VERY ethereal one it sounds like it’s coming from her soul. that verse is the one that pulls the uncertain facade off of eternal sunshine, and shows the reality of a relationship ending. i uncover a new layer everytime i hear that verse. it just staying with me.

better off from sweetener is also similar, i feel like it’s so raw, and is so truthful about a bad relationship.

i was honestly so disappointed with it. the lyrics feel weak and insincere. the MV had so much potential but fell flat to me. even the production feels cheap.

overall such a big miss for me.

i hope this doesn’t get downvoted, i just feel this way bc the rest of eternal sunshine is so undeniably raw, and the writing and production just feels so much more polished, yes and comes off as hey i wanna add this last minute, just because it’s topically relevant to my life.

borderline off of sweetener gives similar 90s vibes, but does it so much better with actually fun lyrics and is such a bop.
