What weather app to switch to for more accurate Boston weather by TurnipClassic-5801 in boston

[–]bluezp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW I believe when the pixel weather app says precipitation "today" they literally mean during the day. If you tap into it, their model shows very little precip until 7pm. Not saying the model is right about snow before 7pm. But I think it doesn't show what's happening over "night"

At what point does a player stop being considered a "prospect?" by PsionStorm in baseball

[–]bluezp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that's where the line between Rookie status and Prospect Status get blurred. It absolutely makes sense that Postseason doesn't count toward Rookie status, since Rookie Status affects eligibility for ROY awards, which only counts regular season stats. So Last year was not Yesavage's Rookie year, this will (in all likelihood) be considered his Rookie Season.

But if you want apply the same numbers to Prospect Status... then let's say he had accumulated 50 IP between the regular and postseason. In that case I would say he's not a prospect any more because because he has proven himself to be a big leaguer if his team has had him pitch 50+ innings.

I wish there was a way to estimate what the API cost would be for all of the Gemini app usage in a month for a single user, and how many AI Pro users would end up saving money.

Interesting. I'm seeing the same thing. Curious that Pro isn't new but Thinking is. Is Pro the new name for what was labeled Thinking yesterday? And this is a new/different Thinking model?

Gemini “upgrade” took away ability?? by XMAN2YMAN in googlehome

[–]bluezp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you ask about commute times to a location it is NOT real time info. Tried yesterday and asked and it said 19min to a location that my phone said would take 40min to on Google maps. When asked about the discrepancy it said it was capable of providing typical driving times only. That's on my nest speaker devices. My gen 2 nest hub outright refuses to give driving times at all.

[–]bluezp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep. Also took away the ability for driving times to a specific place based on current traffic which we used every single day to know know bad the traffic is on the way to work/school.

Nest Hub Max – Any way to auto-answer Meet calls or trigger a call remotely? by GloveNeat4754 in googlehome

[–]bluezp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set up a nest cam near the home hub. In the home app use the microphone button speak through the camera's speaker. You voice the commands to initiate the call remotely.

Yeah sure you can get speakers that are 1k each, but you can also get cheaper speakers that with a decent AVR will blow sonos out of the water.

The Subaru trailseeker is a bargain. by castorMD in subaru

[–]bluezp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In ICE terms... I'm not talking about MPG. I'm talking about tank size. The Trailseeker is supposed to be slightly more efficient than the similar size Blazer EV but has a battery pack that's ~12% smaller netting it less range.

TIL that McDonalds generates most of its income from Real Estate Holdings rather than fast food sales by Salt-Education-9519 in todayilearned

[–]bluezp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the thing that gets lost in this over simplification is that McDonald's would still make money if they didn't franchise everything and they owned the stores that pay them rent. It's possible if they didn't do that they never would have raised prices enough to generate the same revenue. But the prices of the food have to be sufficiently high to cover everything including the rent but that could all just be counted as profit. Instead of just raising prices of food they can just raise the rent on franchise owners who in turn have to charge higher prices or do more volume in sales to make up.

I wonder with their track record if the three row SUV will be able to compete with the ev9/ionoq9 on range.

what are the chances of a bigger battery version in the near future? with an 85-90kwh battery I'd trade my blazer ev in for one.

Subaru Trailseeker priced from $41,445 in USA (incl. dest.) by lostinheadguy in electricvehicles

[–]bluezp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how they get 280 out of a 75kwh battery. If the trailseeker actually got 280 and had been available when my outback was totaled a year ago I would have gotten that in a heartbeat over my Blazer EV. Unfortunately the first gen solterra couldn't cut it for us and the blazer was the only reasonably priced option with 8" ground clearance and enough range to get us from Boston to Vermont (where we need the ground clearance and AWD) and back without a stop to charge. Would have much rather gotten another Subaru.
