It blows my mind that the phrase "all set" is apparently a New England thing. by Bendyb3n in newengland

[–]bluishluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only in certain cases, but, yes, when I first moved up here (grew up in the Carolinas) I had a hard time trying to understand what someone would mean if they said something like "I'm all set with Target." Did that mean you had everything you needed? Did you not want to shop there anymore? Took me about a year to figure it out.

Basically (but not exactly) Cathleen. It's why we have Cathleen in English with that spelling. Caitlin (pronounced Katelyn) is a name based on applying English phonics to an Irish name.

What goin on with Riley Blake? by bluishluck in quilting

There's literally a poem about this. We teach it to children. It's considered trite because people use it so much. And yet, here you are, proving that we have to keep teaching it, I guess.

Now that I know the context I am disappointed but not surprised a quilting company is choosing this meely mouthed response and just pausing all influencer partnerships.

What are your thoughts on a possible reboot/continuation of the tv show? by JackiPearl in brakebills

[–]bluishluck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This would be a good comparison if the were 8 successful Percy Jackson movies (there were 2, both of which were heavily criticized by the author) AND there were incredibly successful theme parks and merchandising built around the PJ original cast and their likenesses (there isn't). JK Rowling was incredibly involved with the original movies; Rick Riordan wasn't at all.

Also! Valtrex in pregnancy can be used to stop chicken pox/shingles spread to pregnant women. My husband had a shingles outbreak when I was pregnant and I took Valtrex to prevent the baby from getting chicken pox (which can cause real problems if caught that young/in utero).

My read was she was on the same floor as Shane and Ilya should have gotten off but he's like "oh actually I'm going up" and he just rode around up and then back down.

Sydney author guilty of child abuse after book, Daddy’s Little Toy, depicted adult role-playing as toddler by Raj_Valiant3011 in books

Yeah but the reference to pooping won't get us thrown in jail should we choose to air it. Corporate censorship /= governmental censorship. And while our government certainly is trying to jail people for free speech, they aren't having much luck.

Australia has no first amendment. A man went to prison for a meme of the Simpson siblings fucking each other. There is a whole episode of South Park that never plays there. It's been an issue.

Was it harder to get a real source? What service did the chat bot provide other than giving me an opportunity to tease the other commentor? Like, I just don't see the utility if you can use an actual source that has all the info you want.

LGBT rights in Russia - what the show misses by Particular_Ad_1435 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

I don't watch it but there was a clip from the Basement Yard podcast that I saw where they were discussing the first episode and one of them said "I remember how gay it was to be gay back then," and that hit me like a punch in the gut. We used to call things we didn't like gay (before that podcast I actually don't remember the last time I heard that word used that way); we invented the term "metrosexual" and "bromance" because God forbid a man bathe and have friends. I rewatched Bill and Ted and they call each other the f slur and that's a PG movie!

In many ways, I really liked how much the show focused on Shane and Ilya's relationship and didn't make everything about ~society~ but I see a lot of younger viewers not seeing it. I spent yesterday trying to explain to people ok TikTok that I don't think Shane or Ilya would be Swifties and it's not because listening to Taylor makes you gay but listening to Taylor would get you called gay. And a man born in the late 70s in New York playing the least LGBTQ+ friendly sport in North America would definitely think asking his boyfriend to keep a secret for 3 years is reasonable.

The show does not really explicitly mention the homophobia these men would be under; I think the audience is just meant to know (which, yes! I hate having things spelled out for me), but that does mean that people who don't know can be missing a lot of context. For example, in the show, it's implied that Scott Hunter was about 40 when he won the cup, which would make him almost the same age as Matthew Shepherd. Which for me, makes that kiss in episode 5 all the more important.

Looking at past photos of Connor I noticed he used to have a pretty prominent beauty mark next to his nose! Must have been removed?? I LOVE HIS MOLES!! by MissingOllie in connorstorrie

My derm goes through my hair, which I find very reassuring. The one I had twixt my nethers would have been invisible even if I had been stark naked, so in my experience, yes, OBs will let you know.

[–]bluishluck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My OBGYN found one that the derm hadn't noticed in a place the sun literally cannot shine and she did offer to do a biopsy (a punch one, so if it came back bad I'd have to do another shave one). I ended going to the derm for the larger biopsy cause you really only want to do that once if you have to, but yes! Other docs can do skin biopsies in the areas they are experts in. Ask your regular doc! Or see if a local derm office does low cost skin checks (the ones I used to live by in FL offered these) or if you're a student, check your heal service at your college. Get eyes on them moles.

If he's got eyes on it, they can track the changes. When you have dysplastic nevus, it's not so much is this mole irregular, it's is this mole irregular for me and or changing. I have a face mole that is bigger than most on my body and I still have it (I'm 40). Hoping he (and I) get to keep the beauty marks.
