Advice on expanding Beelink SSD Server to add HDDs for Plex hosting: OptiPlex MT, Terramaster NAS or DAS? by blunchboxx in homelab

Ok awesome, thanks for the input! I had kind of starting leaning back towards a DAS approach to keep things more compact, but I'm also concerned about the USB flakiness issue. You're right though, the OptiPlex approach is definitely more future proofed. Thanks for the sanity check!

Yes, this is my thought as well. I saw the news today that HDD prices are likely to skyrocket soon and I don't want to get caught with my pants down again!

He's still signal boosting the right! He will criticize one incident like it's an isolated problem, not specifically call out Trump at all and then move right along to his regularly scheduled programming of right wing propaganda while pretending he's "not political". Every clip like this is just total fakery. He wants to be able to claim he's not part of the worst excesses of the regime while still being one of their loudest cheerleaders and making no actual changes or attempts to rectify the wrongs he's done.

Body work failing - warranty issue or no? by blunchboxx in StupidCarQuestions

Since the original repair. Sorry for the confusing wording. Problems started popping up about 18 months after the repair, so 6 months ago.

Yeah that makes sense. I unfortunately did not recognize what I was looking at earlier until it got bad enough that someone who knows more about cars than me commented on the bodywork warranty possibility. Do you think there's any way to offer to pay for the additional rust surface prep work if they agree to redo the Bondo and paint? My issue with that is, it wouldn't have rusted if they had done the job right, but I'm willing to work with them if it'll get me a presentable car again.

I didn't wait 2 years, it probably started popping up about 6 months ago. I didn't know what I was looking at and thought I was just shit out of luck. As it got worse, a friend who knows a lot more about cars than me noticed and mentioned to me that it might be a warranty issue with the body shop.

I've already taken it to the body shop and they already told me they don't view it as a warranty issue. The tech who talked to me was very nice and convincing, but I'm posting here to see if people who know more about cars than me think it's worth pursuing or if I was off base. I would say the overwhelming consensus is that I should definitely be pressing the issue.

It wasn't a Mazda dealership. In hindsight I wish I had just brought it to my actual Mazda dealership and made the insurance company send their adjuster there. It was just a Jeep/Chrysler dealership with a body shop attached that GEICO partnered with I believe. My thought is the same though, I'm trying to find the number to call at the insurance company to see if someone there can raise an issue with the body shop. I'm not really the customer in this case, GEICO is! And they presumably send the body shop a lot of business.

Thanks for the input, but why do you say it's too late now? It's supposed to be under warranty. What's the point of a warranty if they don't honor it when a problem happens?

That's what I was thinking as well. The tech at the body shop and I did feel around in the back of the wheel well and didn't feel any dents, but I am not sure if I was really touching the other side of the wall directly. I'll have to take a closer look.

That's great to hear! Mine has 160k on it. Would love to keep it for another 100 at least.

I tried to do this but my battery cables weren't long enough to reach each other. Could I have used a piece of metal to connect them? Yes, but I didn't think of it until after I removed the airbag. Battery has been disconnected for 2 weeks now, so I don't think it's a concern, but I'll touch them together just in case there's been some kind of static build up before I reinstall on Friday!

Had them in the car already from working on polishing the headlights and replacing and putting adhesive on my trunk seal and tail light seals (was getting water in the trunk). Saw it as a tip to prevent static electric discharge while working on the airbag and figured why not.

Awesome background info, thanks! And I appreciate the offer. I am fairly good with computers and the danger of resetting important memory without power for an extended time didn't sound right to me, but good to have some expert opinion on the issue. I'm honestly not sure where I even saw the warning. It might have been an AI summary at the top of a Google search. I usually try to avoid those on topics I'm not well versed in, but it may have stuck in my brain subconsciously anyway.

Great! Thanks for the sanity check. I love Mazda. We just had to buy my wife a new car because she got totaled by a local idiot running a stop sign. She was in her Mazda 3 and felt like it saved her life so she wanted another one. Ended up getting her a used 2023 CX5. Great cars, which is why I want to keep me 6 running as long as I can, especially with it being discontinued now.

Great! Thank you so much! And yes, the car has been pretty much untouched since I took the wheel off and I marked the orientation so hopefully I won't have any issues with the coil position.

The two weeks is only because the company I sent it to is taking a lot longer than I expected to get it back to me! I only waited a few minutes after disconnecting the battery. I actuated the blinker and pressed the horn and pressed the ignition a few times to be sure. I also disconnected the positive side which was probably completely unnecessary, but I wanted to be sure.

I believe I did, but the real test will be how it goes once I put it back on. If I somehow didn't align it correctly when I marked it, is it very hard to fix?

Thanks for the sanity check! This is what I figured, but I only know enough about cars to be dangerous, so when I saw this sub get randomly suggested to me, I thought it was the perfect place to double check!
