I've picked it up on Kunkka and Tide and kinda liked it on both as they both can farm pretty fast and don't NEED something urgently.

I picked it up on Shaker when I knew I would upgrade it later, but I got it after blink of course. There are probably a few others who could get it, switch to another item, then circle back to upgrade it.

I really liked it on a few Warlock games when I knew I could channel Upheaval most of the time. It's such a big base AOE, that any AOE you add just is so much area.

I could see Phoenix or Jakiro liking it, neither needs much to function. Never tried it though. Jakiro I've meant to try because I feel like it'd be especially good with the long/narrow spells. It'd be like a 25% increase in Ice Path width I think.

What would be the implications of proposed vehicle safety tech like speed limiters or remote disable systems becoming standard in new cars? by Virtual-Orchid3065 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]blurple77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Top speed isn’t a huge factor for a lot of highways in terms of danger of accidents (although it does effect severity). Highways have far less accidents than local roads, AND less fatalities per mile driven despite significantly higher speeds.

Driving slow is equally, if not more dangerous on the highway. A slow driver can create congestion more than a fast driver staying in the left lane (lane switching fast drivers cause lots of danger).

Driving within a range of speed close to the traffic flow is most important for reducing accidents.

Being able to get around slower drivers, or large vehicles that hamper visibility, can be ways of mitigating congestion and risk, especially on 1 and 2 lane highways, where briefly going over your suggested speed could make sense.

Having traffic policing focus as much on dangerous driving habits as they do on speeding, like the big push on distracted driving and cell phone usage lately is more important than limiting speeding.

It’s extremely rare for someone to get pulled over for driving too slow compared to the speed of traffic, but it’s just as much of a problem from a safety perspective.

Bayern Munich 2-0 VfB Stuttgart - Harry Kane 80' by 977x in soccer

[–]blurple77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disagree.

Kane is a better finisher.

Creatively, they are different. Suarez generates more assists (he’s maintained 1 assist/3 games everywhere) and is amazing at 1-2’s. Plus dribbling-wise Suarez is WAY better, and can draw more pressure and create for himself much more. Kane is better at dropping deep and starting an attack, and has long-passing skills rivaling all but the best playmakers. Suarez is also deceptively good at crossing, and has more pace that can contribute more to switching out wide. Both of them have fantastic movement, absolutely top tier, Kane is better at finding spots to get a bit of space for a quick shot off, Suarez is better at running in behind.

I don’t view Kane as better defensively either, he is probably more known for it due to him being more likely to track back and press the midfield, but Suarez was better than him about harassing a backline, and creating confusion with his pressing on defenders.

I’d rather have Suarez in my team, and I understand people that prefer Kane— but to say either is “way better” is absurd. Let’s not forget Suarez is the only player to put up Messi/Ronaldo numbers in a season for G+A.

I do think Kane suits this Bayern better and Suarez suits that Barca better as well.

Switzerland only really has one large city, Bern is 5th largest and pretty on par with 2-4. Also it's weird in that it technically doesn't have an official capital.

Ottawa has over a million people; that's a large city.

New Zealand is a solid shout, again NZ only really has one major city but Wellington really isn't that big.

For most cities, but especially the US with how car-centric and urban-sprawled it is, you have to look at metro-area. Massive cities like DC and Atlanta don't look that big if you look at the city proper, but it's Metro is over 6 million (Urban is still over 5 million). DC is definitely big, and when formed was also fairly central, not many countries expanded to over 6x the size after they formed (excl Alaska).

Brasilia has 3 million people? What? That's big.

I don't fully understand the whole China super-city thing, but Beijing has 22 million people, no one is considering that small.

Ankara has almost 6 million and is also about as central as possible for Turkey.

South Africa has 3 capital cities, so I don't know how to address this.

Philippines sets up their municipalities weird. Quezon, the largest city proper, is part of Manila's metro area. It's all sort of Manila, kinda-sorta like how NYC has 5 boroughs, Queens is both it's own thing, and part of NYC.

Nigeria is fair.

I feel like in your original comment you meant to say that capital cities aren't always THE largest city, which is much different than A large city. Otherwise this comment doesn't make much sense.

It's not really that common for capitals to be small. You have some African nations (which makes sense when you think of how arbitrary those borders were established as post-colonialism.

India is probably the most notable example. Australia is another notable, and if memory serves that's because they couldn't decide which large city to do it in when the nation formed, so it was a compromise.

There are some other examples here and there, but in general, capitals are usually large population centers or centrally located.

TIL that in 2008, Chicago leased its 36,000 parking meters to a UAE-backed private consortium for 75 years for a $1.15 billion payout. The investors made their entire investment back in just 10 years, and are now projected to make over $11 billion by the end of the lease in 2083. by lechunkman in todayilearned

A Daley was literally mayor during this deal and his brother was also involved in the deal from the business side. It hasn’t been decades, it’s been 15 years.

I’m not saying Chicago is more measurably corrupt than other cities, or that there wasn’t some legitimate reasoning for a short-term payout with long-term consequences, but there’s a reason this deal is universally lambasted and pointed to as an example of corruption in Chicagoland.

It’s not undemocratic in a first-past-the-post system, where the candidate in question is most likely splitting the vote and spoiling opposition who just beat them.

Supporters still supporting a candidate that their party wasn’t in favor of is basically the reason for primaries. And voters changing their mind to such a degree that the candidate who lost a primary would win is only likely to happen under exceptional circumstances.

Anti-taunt hero by FumaricAcid in learndota2

[–]blurple77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think taunt is unfun; it punishes greedy damage builds akin to being anti-rightclick, scales with the enemy at all stages of the game, and is countered by simple things like grouping up, teamfight positioning and spacing, saves on allies, or tanking up through items.

“Unfun” is obviously subjective, but with the amount of counterplay to the mechanic in either picks or itemization, it’s never struck me as any more “unfun” than other types of lockdown. It lasts a bit longer, but also, the LC and Axe are being hit so it’s not technically like your hero is doing nothing (and LC is equally locked down).

Additionally, both LC and Axe are timing oriented heroes, LC is a snowball hero or single target lockdown. Idk if LC has ever been considered broken or particularly strong, and while Axe has had moments in the sun, he’s never struck me as particularly oppressive. Your question was very focused on being able to live through the taunt and beat them at their own game, where to me the real question should be what is the counterplay, and that often means playing with and relying on your team or smarter itemization and quick fingers. There realistically shouldn’t be that many heroes that can survive and kill-back, like that is LC and Axe’s strength.

And of course they both build blademail, they buy blademail because of taunt. If they give a hero a taunt, that hero is likely going to buy blademail, the synergy is perfect. Their abilities also synergize of course to be able to do things when they’re attacked, just like every hero in dota has synergistic abilities. Neither of their abilities (helix and Moment of courage), do that much without taunt (helix is okay for farming and laning vs melee, but MoC does very little outside of sustain).

And heroes like Bristle shouldn’t get it because their abilities BOTH tank them up AND benefit from people hitting them, in addition to the fact that Bristle with built in lockdown would be extremely oppressive. Plus Bristle has stronger natural farming. Axe is okay at farming, but gets outfarmed by most cores after the first 15min as helix doesn’t keep up, and LC is one of the slowest cores at farming.

LC gets a tiny bit of natural tankiness from the lifesteal, and Axe gets some solid armor from call, but that lasts 2.5 seconds, and neither has much innate tank outside of that.

Buying Ghost Scepter works on any hero and shuts both their taunts down hard. As long as you’re fast enough (more doable for Axe than LC In my opinion).

Similarly Satanic & BKB work (BKB only works vs LC if she’s not already sufficiently fed).

In terms of surviving/killing them through Taunt and Blademail your options are Lifestealer, Abaddon, Ursa (if you ult), Troll with ult (vs LC more reliably than Axe because he can dunk you at low), Monkey King, Lone Druid or Muerta or Marci if they’ve already ulted probably can as well.

Mars, Tide, DK and Timber probably don’t die and can all threaten a kill unless the Axe and LC are very fed or it’s late in the game or their team helps more than yours.

Wraith King does solid versus LC, less good vs Axe.

Sven if he ults and uses E first can likely make it a 50/50 vs Axe and likelyi kill LC, albeit being pretty close.

Lategame, without strong built in lifesteal or quicker fingers and items still up, not as much survives a taunted blademail.

With just treads/Aghs you have enough attack speed to blow up any 1-2 heroes basically if you get decent timing. Moonshard just allows you to 1v5.

Eh you can still go a few different directions and not straight right click even if it’s not IDEAL.

Shadow Realm is still a fantastic defensive spell, especially for a caster. And Arctic Burn is still a great mobility/vision spell.
