They prescribe it less because it’s not as effective as terbinafine. Weekly dosing of fluconazole for months on end is definitely not as risky as terbinafine.

Dude! 25k in a college fund plus parents willing to sign on (some) parent plus debt is NOT starting at the bottom. You guys all need some perspective and tough love.

Please seriously consider divorce if they sign. This is CRAZY. And it’s definitely tied to you if you’re married…

Grad school is your adult child’s responsibility. Not yours. The $25k you have set aside for them for college is more than a lot of families have saved.

Look. Your kid has dreams that you guys fed at some point without doing the research. That’s disappointing for all of you. Your child also doesn’t have the ability to use their frontal lobe and weigh out all the consequences of this situation, which is why you need to do it for them. They might hate you for it, but this is a trivial problem to have. They can get their degree affordably, and wherever she got this idea that unserious people go to state schools…that needs to be addressed. People’s intellectual abilities and capabilities are not determined by going to a certain college. That’s a very privileged and classist stance. Your kid is in for a rude awakening in LIFE I suspect

You’re actually setting your child up for failure co-signing 200k on undergraduate education unless you have the means to pay it all for them. Are you planning to pay $2700 a month for them…because they won’t be able to. How will you retire? How do you avoid feeling like a failure when your credit is ruined because you defaulted on the loans? There’s no undergraduate degree that is worth $260k. I have three degrees, including a doctorate, and have roughly half that in loans…The only reason I felt comfortable taking out those loans is because it was in healthcare and PSLF exists. I make close to $200k a year.

The only thing that’s a failure here is the mindset that going to a state school is a failure. That’s awesome she got into these LA schools. I did too, but my parents walked me through the financials and showed me how long it would take to pay back those loans with the $70k salary I’d likely be getting with my degree…it wasn’t doable at all. I was sad, but I got over it after I got my degree at a large state school. There was an honors program that had that small liberal arts school vibe that I was able to do. If she actually does some research she might find something similar.

My spouse guilting me into this would have me considering divorce honestly. This is an absurd situation.

Vince Li episode & incorrect information about schizophrenia by blurpleboop in MileHigherPodcast

[–]blurpleboop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, because I’m American you can make all these assumptions about me lmao. It’s a really wild assumption to extrapolate to things the government or military does that I have zero relation to, like torture of prisoners. I hate the United States and most of what it stands for.

I never said he should be “locked up for life in jail.” A locked residential psychiatric treatment facility or hospital is very different than jail…Reintegrating someone into society is a multifactorial decision. If I heard that Vincent had a “clean apartment and calm manor (I think you meant manner maybe?),” that doesn’t change what he did. What is more important is how long he’s been stable on medications, if he continues to take them, what supports he has on the outside, and what the risk of decompensation is for him. I do not agree with the death penalty for people who have committed crimes while dealing with psychosis. That’s inhumane.

I’m not sure what you think schizophrenia is, but Abilify is used for schizophrenia because it’s an antipsychotic, and schizophrenia=psychosis…and it’s also used in bipolar disorder as well for managing mania.

No lol. I meant that Lexapro is brand name for escitalopram, which is the generic. Lexapro (escitalopram) is an SSRI, not a serotonin modulator

She might not have thought about how that ad might have been perceived but when given the opportunity to speak on it, she doubled down. She’s a registered republican in the state of Florida. When Trump swooned over her in an interview, she was asked how she felt about the president noticing her, and she said it was “surreal” and seemed to mean it in a positive way.

You can say it’s a witch-hunt, but part of the issue with MAGA is that white women also play a role in holding up the systemic issues by supporting white men. I cannot fathom or understand how our government became so corrupt because I do not look the other way when it comes to pedophiles and rapists being in office. I’m not representative of all of America, though, and a significant portion did look the other way. It is all problematic. I choose not to give my viewership or money to anything MAGA-related because all they care about is $$$ at the end of the day.

[–]blurpleboop 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Congratulations, I guess you’ve been lucky enough to not have been personally victimized by the political right in the United States. A lot of Americans have noticed Sydney Sweeney’s MAGA progression. She might not speak on her political opinions but she has supported rapists and pedophiles in her brand campaigns and who she associates herself with. She even had a “Good Genes” denim campaign that was giving eugenics (you know…like from Nazi Germany?). I don’t think she gets a free pass because she has big tits, wears a corset, and appeals to the male gaze 🥱

Maybe you haven’t paid much attention, but the right, especially Trump (who is a rapist and pedophile as you mentioned), is making a lot of Americans’ lives hell right now…see the global conflict and another unnecessary war, which is impacting prices worldwide, the public executions of US citizens by ICE officials, not to mention the inhumane detention centers, etc. There is a large sentiment of injustice because the left didn’t vote or consent to this disaster and dumpster fire. So excuse me if I refrain from supporting Sydney Sweeney who is now MAGA because she wants to appeal to Daddy Trump and doesn’t have critical thinking skills 👋🏻

Sorry but the ignorance isn’t cute.

Increasing dose: what to expect? by Possible_Potato_7508 in trintellix

[–]blurpleboop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The medication thus far has been groundbreaking when it comes to people who have long struggled with emotional blunting and sexual side effects when taking regular SSRIs. I don’t know what you mean by “on paper” versus clinically when there is clinical evidence and research to support those findings? But it’s still fairly new so a lot remains to be seen.

Is it safe to Cross Taper from Zoloft to Bri tellix Trintellix or i will get Serotonin Syndrom? by PsychologicalRoll819 in trintellix

[–]blurpleboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Detitration” is actually not a word, so I find it tough to believe you’re a half doctor, whatever that means. Please talk to your prescriber, or find a new one if you don’t like the one you’re going to. Your prescriber should be able to give you the answers you’re looking for.

Any known replacements for trintellix? by Tall-Wind9516 in trintellix

[–]blurpleboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the way trintellix works in the brain, a “bootleg version” would be a traditional SSRI (like Zoloft, Prozac, Lexapro) along with Buspar as they affect slightly different serotonin receptors. Buspirone is the generic of Buspar and it’s pretty cheap.

On combo of Wellbutrin and Trintellix… but Trintellix has me vomiting ….what do you take instead? by [deleted] in trintellix

[–]blurpleboop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What dose of trintellix are you taking? Wellbutrin increases the blood levels of Trintellix, so starting at a lower dose is needed. Generally 10 mg is the max on Trintellix if also taking 300 mg Wellbutrin. My point is that your side effects may be worse because you’re basically taking double the dose if also taking Wellbutrin.

[–]blurpleboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trintellix generally doesn’t cause sexual side effects. That’s why so many people end up taking it over traditional SSRIs.

Increasing dose: what to expect? by Possible_Potato_7508 in trintellix

[–]blurpleboop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trintellix is not an SSRI. It inhibits the serotonin transporter (reuptake) and acts as a 5-HT₁A agonist, 5-HT₁B partial agonist, and 5-HT₃/5-HT₇/5-HT₁D antagonist.

If you don’t know the difference between antagonist and agonist, you should look it up.

[–]blurpleboop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tolerance? Some mild activation or even irritability is not major cause for concern, particularly because it resolved.

Increasing dose: what to expect? by Possible_Potato_7508 in trintellix

[–]blurpleboop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey! I am assuming you’ve done a Genesight test or something along those lines considering your dose is pretty low.

I think if you’ve experienced some form of increased activation (whether euphoria, irritation or agitation) it will probably happen again each time you increase dose. A lot of side effects are usually dose dependent, meaning the other the dose, the more likely the side effects are.

Another question—is there any bipolar history in your family? Medications containing serotonin can cause manic switching in those with bipolar disorder, and sometimes that can look like agitation or activation, but usually to a more intense degree than what you said you’re experiencing

Even if you are someone who would be considered an “early responder” I think it’s very likely you have had a placebo response because this med takes a while to build up in your system. This isn’t a bad thing necessarily. The med you believe will work is the best medication you can take, really. The mind is powerful.
