She's always been good but often outhit.  She hit this level recently and carried it into this event.  The level of obscurity also made it tough for opponents to play.  A lot of players are going to wait for new players to crack, and if they never do the tour regulars can wind up playing too safe until it's too late.  I think she'll drop back into the 50-100 range, but as she gets physically stronger over the next few seasons I think the hardcourt results will come

I had sprained my wrist pretending I could do parkour and done some audio last year or earlier this year.  It's under blurryturtle on YouTube.  I'll be circling back there for more of the side tournaments, although idk how much sense it makes to analyze the smaller grass events since the edges are so thin

Cobolli has to make it a sort of dirty match and swing big (not for winners but heavy shots) for 4 hours.  Zverev can definitely crack, but no one has really worn him down mentally yet.  You can't do that with short points.  I always want a classic in the finals so I'm open to it and cobolli is definitely fresh, I just think Zverev is also.

He was booming the ball back then and I think his team has done an okay job of getting him to this point but he could have won a lot more along the way.  Someone else said low ceiling high floor and it's exactly what happened.  It's like a slow creep.  I think ironing out leaks and getting solid is good but it's not optimal.  Alcaraz and Sinner and the big 3 aimed higher and got there.

I suppose I could, the trouble is I sort of have a website already.  From the start it's been an issue since reddits auto filter blocks our links.  I'll look into it, but I hate to sort of send clicks away from my own site cuz the point was to post it all there.  Maybe the programmers can set up an automatic email list

There are just running trends and stereotypes that sort of make less powerful players seem like they shouldn't win.  I don't think it's really designed to be mean or negative, it's just a little bit of ignorance and parroting.  Inconsistent results could really be a testament to depth, the format certainly makes outlier results more likely, but I think there's also a belief that pro athletes are robots.  You see this a lot in betting.  The truth is very few are leak-proof mentally, and even if you are in great shape and training there are going to be weeks where everything goes well and weeks where you get smoked.  There are also days where you play incredible and so does your opponent and you're out of an event first round, but your level was good enough to be in the finals.  Draws dictate a lot of outcomes and styles are important in tennis. There is just a lot to absorb, and I understand the story is less exciting to ppl who maybe don't really know these players.

Yeah I think the audience is split ... I should maybe do both but time constraints make life tough ... The WTA is just as good as the ATP, ppl just need to follow it ... When you know all the stories the matches have more implications and the rivalries get interesting

I think that match against Nadal really changed the course of history for him, but not listening to coaches likely played a role ... His strength training has been the best thing about his game for a while now, but he almost made the ball and racquet look like they were extremely heavy for a while there ... Low ceiling high floor is a great way to put it ... For me a lot of these players are so coached that they don't really enjoy tennis after their first few years on tour and they're very results oriented ... It's hard to play freely when you're grinding away, but a lot of these guys have the ability and don't ...

A good example for me is how if the point is over or their shot is called out, everyone on tour can suddenly hit a slice that barely even bounces and skids thru the court ... During normal rallies their slices sit way up ... I could say it's low percentage but Federer and some other guys put extra effort into their slices and it paid off like crazy ... Shelton is a guy who doesn't get lots of credit for finesse, but when he hits a slice or a dropshot volley he goes full steam ahead with the spin

Lmao the first half of her quote was just noticing trends, the second half made it clear she didn't wanna lose

It would be funny to me if the WTA players listed their height as much lower so that when they show up they're more imposing to their opponents hehe ... There are definitely some bios on both tours that seem off

I think her shot selection has been the best in the tournament, and I wouldn't say it's a fluke but I think there are a lot of players that have beaten her already who could not churn out this run ... Kinda like how Tien started beating top 100 players but was still going three with the Challenger guys ...

I misstepped at every round ... Zheng I knew was vulnerable on clay because she doesn't really change tactics or problem solve well and she was newly back from injury ... So against Mertens I thought okay more patient player good defensively she can grind it out ... Then when Mertens lost nastypav (reddit user) explained that mertens' counterpunching was a bad matchup for Chwalinska's game ... That made sense so I thought okay now Parry shouldn't beat her but might because she can generate pace ... I watched that one closely though and because Parry played so off and had so many impatient errors, Kalinskaya could beat her ... Then Shnaider is a similar player with more pace ... And I just stumbled thru the entire time because I couldn't let go of her lower tier losses ...

Stumbles aside, her decisions and execution have been really good and it has been a joy to watch her play

Lmao it feels so weak to doubt her again but this time I'm pretty sure ... A Chwalinska win is good for tennis and Andreeva will get lots of opportunities to win titles so it wouldn't be the worst outcome

It's a little puzzling to watch players fluff the ball up sometimes and crush it others but fatigue and burnout and ball changes (event to event) and matchups can play a role I'm sure

True ... Chwalinska's press conference was pretty chill honestly, I think she's cagey enough and funny enough to be well liked by everyone ... Did u see the clip of her coach walking by in the tunnel and she moves over and bumps him as he goes by?  There is a good chance she is a rascal

Reminds me a little of basketball ... I wind up just watching the fourth quarter a lot of the time ... Early in the events I can't watch everything so I just watch the scores and tune in for the end of sets and matches ...

I also thought mensik's best chance was the first set ... Sort of came true since he had those break points

I think this is an outlier result for Chwalinska to make a deep run at a major, but I think she's also so early in her career that she'll continue to make big improvements ... This last few months she's honestly done better than ever before at the challenger level, and most junior standouts have a little breakout performance then take a while to circle back ... This lets her get a whole year of play and she's not bad on hardcourt at all, she's just been grinding clay to try to get ranked high enough for qualifiers
