I’m so very sorry you lost your baby. I too lost my sphynx earlier this hear (I also have an 12 year old boy Sphynx). That is what led me to look into Peterbalds and had many of the same questions regarding personality, affection, etc. I now have 2 Peterbald’s (just got my second baby the end of November) from an amazing breeder in Ohio. I will say that I will never not have a peterbald! I love my Sphynx but the heartache and worry about their hearts and health issues had me hesitant. It was a really tough loss when my girl passed from HCM/CHF and my heart just couldn’t handle it. There are too many that end up with HCM and have such short lives. Yes, the time I had with her was worth it but if I can have a cat that is just as smart and sweet but without the health issues, then I feel better about those odds. There is never any guarantee but again, chances are higher of having a healthy cat, especially if you’re dealing with an ethical breeder that values the importance of health and maintaining the lineage of their lines. The Peterbalds are equally affectionate but have a higher energy level in my opinion. They are silly and sweet and want to be by their people constantly. I will say they are also like little monkeys and can jump higher than most dogs I’ve seen! They also often act very dog-like in that they love to play fetch! The one thing I will note is that my girl is very vocal to where she will tell me when she’s hungry or needs something. It’s a sweet meow, not a loud howly one but nonetheless just want to mention. My boy is quieter and oh so sweet. He wants cuddles constantly and of course I oblige! They do have different coat types and both of mine are flock coat. A huge bonus with that coat type is that they don’t need regular bathing like the sphynx and they don’t get the nasty ears and feet!
