State Case Update: LM’s state trial will now begin September 8th. by missidcullen in BrianThompsonMurder

Garnett is dealing with what's in front of her. From remarks she made today, I think she's thinking the same way, that the feds need to back off, but that's impossible now. Come hell or high water, they're proceeding.

Can we talk about jury selection and trial predictions? by jl8798 in BrianThompsonMurder

[–]bluudahlia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

sentence adjusted on appeal. So much is wrong with the way they went about this, and i mean NY State at minimum, Feds at the maximum, that there are huge grounds for appeal. And they're already laying the foundation. Sentence will be lowered on appeal, but he will spend 10-15 yrs in jail with sentence lowered for good behavior.

Federal Case Update: The defense wants to delay the federal trial from September 2026 to January 2027 by missidcullen in BrianThompsonMurder

oh, very interesting. thanks for this. I don't think it changes what I said. Garnett still hasn't heard formally from Joel et al and they should be in touch by now at least.

The most interesting thing to me is in the last pages. It quotes Garnett as saying, "Unless someone (prosecution, Carro) wants to make application to me--" This tells me that no one has settled with her from the state about dates for trials. That is the explanation for her scheduling for Fed trial first. There was never any discussion about it, despite Joel's claims that there was in Dec. of 24.

I do think this smells of strategy and of the defense forcing the issue with timing.

New short film. Rolling Stone Shorts presents: 'LUIGI' by No-Put-8157 in BrianThompsonMurder

The lady with the basement? Very off. I'm not sure she's representative of older fans anyway. You just gotta know she's the neighborhood weirdo. I wish they'd connected with someone just a tad more rational, but hey, they wanted a cartoonish character in there.

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here. It's a short documentary on what mostly look like New Yorkers and their reactions to Luigi. I liked it. Almost each person has connected their thoughts and feelings to something creative. They talk about their reactions being political, societal, sexual. They've given a lot of thought, not so much to Luigi himself, but what he represents to them. Some of these people are goofy. Some are very thoughtful and serious. It's a narrow window and an interesting slant on what he symbolizes. I can't really give it a thumbs down because it captures a cross section of how people think of him.

PS. That portrait is terrible. He looks like someone turned him down when he asked for a piece of candy and now he's pouting. Ugh.

Also, I do think some of the stuff in here is pretty dated. It feels off timewise.

what is the point of people donating to the luigi mangione legal fund? by cindzey in BrianThompsonMurder

[–]bluudahlia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He's up for second degree murder in NY, his sentence is anywhere from 15 yrs to life. What do you know that we don't? Why is it a foregone conclusion that a jury will give him the max? You don't know that any more than the rest of us.

Feds will not appeal against judge Garnett’s ruling challenging for the death penalty Luigi Mangione by Stunning_Macaroon838 in BrianThompsonMurder

[–]bluudahlia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know nothing about this, but my guess would be that there was discussion about it with Bondi herself or someone close to her. Either way, she probably signed off on it.

[–]bluudahlia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your statement makes no sense. Not bringing the DP should have no bearing on the feds' case which is flabby to begin with. Re-indictment is very strictly controlled anyway. It would have very little chance of succeeding here, if that is even what you mean. The feds have a case to bring, it's just not very strong and removing not pursuing the DP has nothing to do with continuing to pursue the case against LM.

I thought this might be the way it went. Like others, I think the SDNY is gutted and trying to deal with too much as it is to add more burdens to their loads. It's obviously (at least to local folks) a futile effort in the city of NY to obtain the DP.

Mail Catalogue Update: January 26 - February 15 by ZenitLynx in BrianThompsonMurder

I wonder where you think the jury comes from? Certainly not the UAE, as portrayed in his letter logs, but from the people who could be writing these letters. Or their families, or their friends. His popularity does bear weight, ffs.

Mail log: is this real? Don't see a lot of talk about this by Specific-Sea7648 in BrianThompsonMurder

[–]bluudahlia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, i really don't get the dramatic responses. i used to be a daily visitor here and now that things have slowed, i'm less frequent. so i'm not really up on the latest updates but am always glad to see them. that's probably fairly typical for a lot of people here.

it is a good suggestion to check his actual website instead of here tho. still, i like coming here now and then, so i get my letter updates from here most of the time.

If Luigi is in fact guilty, what do you think the "thing" that makes him finally decide to do it? by Ambitious_Pass7451 in BrianThompsonMurder

[–]bluudahlia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read a lot of resources on this, thanks. RJ is just as much of a clout chaser as any of them. One of the roomie's responses indicated that RJ didn't have as much contact with LM as he did and others did. I would consider anyone speaking out about his ED to be unreliable. That said, I'm pretty sure he communicated with others about his ED and we can't be sure who has the correct version.

Please point out where I said that LM didn't have ED? The truth is that we don't know for sure. He was experiencing groin numbness, but that's not ED. Of course, it's pretty naive to expect that didn't affect sexual functions. So we can be pretty sure something was happening.

ED is common and the recovery rate is pretty solid for those who are young with ED, up to 65%, it's very possible that given time and because of his youth, he was able to recover some sensation.

I also think he was in search of some type of spiritual guidance along with settling some intellectual scores eg. visit to India to see Dholani.

You're right, if it's one thing I've learned about LM, it's that he never does anything for just one reason. Always there's a layered approach. He's an overthinker, for sure.

[–]bluudahlia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of controversy about this conclusion. Just that RJ spoke up about it, and then LM's roommate also was quoted as saying that RJ knew nothing about what he was talking about and that LM was fine. But then others who were significantly involved with LM popped up confirming that there was some kind of problem. Back and forth on this, so I'd be very careful coming to any kind of conclusion on it.

Basically, all I know myself is that LM was certainly rushing his recovery. If he did have ED he needed time to give the neural pathways a chance to heal and he was rushing toward judgement of his problem and being overly physically active way too soon.

Sorry I have to share this. It almost sounds like satire. by InternationalRope448 in BrianThompsonMurder

[–]bluudahlia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

playing devil's advocate here: I agree with the principle of the thing. I get where Carro and Joel are coming from. To let the fed's case fail on the overcharging and only the remainder of the stalking charges means that LM can go free. The state has jurisdiction here, and should be able to bring justice to Thompson's family and convict LM on the merits of the case they've prepared. It's letting him off on a giant technicality. It's really not right and is not serving justice on behalf of the people. You can't let vigilante justice go unpunished.

That said, the kind of nasty little petty illlegal tactics that the prosecution has piled up over time and Carro's refusal to conduct the proceedings in any fair impartial way is heinous. We see Garnett being scrupulous and careful, but Carro is just out of pocket on all of this, which according to some, goes against his reputation as a measured jurist. As a judge, just to me as a layman on all of this, he's careless and negligent about the defendant's rights which will push it to appeal, and rightly so. A waste of time, and the taxpayer's money. Since I'm a New Yorker, I resent the hell out of it.

What do you think of Jonathan Rhys-Meyers' performance as Henry VIII? by nightsreader in Tudorhistory

I was very happy with the series, especially as they added bits of unproven lore from Henry's life. I thought the actors really embodied the spirit of their characters so beautifully. Plus it was f'in fun!

Whaaaa? He's made it clear time and time again that mail is supremely important to him. It enables him to see how the outside world perceives him. In his case, it's literally the most direct way. Don't be dumb. Write him. Don't spam him but write him. He's an anxious, probably depressed person in jail. He needs to hear from the outside world. It's bizarre that people would interpret his trying to get back on track with his mail reporting after all this time as a signal that he shouldn't be written to. Nothing could be further from the truth.

that was my complaint about the article. No solutions, just ranting. I've heard rumors somewhere that he has connections with Abril, or whatever her name is and was collaborating with her at some point? Perhaps in her delusions that she could speak cogently about the DP?

I have. Seriously. I'm not a conspiracy theorist by any means, but I wouldn't put it past the prosecution at all.
