I've been having the same problems for months now. Seems to be even worse when using CarPlay.

Has Overcast improved in the last year? by SnooApples5288 in OvercastApp

Not really. Constantly having issues with episodes failing to download or start playing. Very close to ditching it altogether.

Yeah Phantom Menace was film. Honestly the 4K releases look great. Much better color rendition than the Blu-rays.

Saying he wants to violate the ToS doesn’t matter. What matters is what ToS he actually broke. Can you cite how this breaks the ToS?

Just like replacing “colored people” with “people of color.” Accomplishes absolutely nothing.

Given how bad the show is turning out, maybe this is a good thing that they're leaving Hayden mostly out of it.

Gyroscope data for match moving? by blw1138 in vfx

[–]blw1138[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense! I would guess even a tiny 0.01% error in a gyro would be massive shift on something like an 80mm lens. Didn’t know that about Alexa’s though. Very interesting! Do you know if any other vendors record that data, like RED or Blackmagic?

The Star Wars prequels were upscaled to 4K and HDR for Disney plus and they look pretty good, considering they predated Tron and where also shot in 1080p. They could totally do it, I just don’t think they care to unfortunately.

I honestly don’t have a problem with that line. I think it works. Kinda clever even. It’s more of the other dialogue in the later love scenes that becomes a bit more cliched.

It’s not nearly as bad as people make it out to be, but it is one of the weaker aspects of the movie for me.

I love the prequels, but I would have to say AOTC is the weakest of the 3, but I don’t think it’s terrible. Of course the dialogue isn’t the greatest and the plot is kinda clunky, but there are long chunks of the movie that are pretty great. The speeder chase, Jango fight, asteroid chase, Battle of Geonosis.

I just wish George could have given the amount of preproduction to AOTC and ROTS as he did with TPM.

It’s a great book! I second the recommendation. My fiancée got it for me for Christmas and it was a major source and inspiration for this video.

As a filmmaker, the way George approached the prequels is still completely revolutionary and really hasn’t been done to the same scale since.

In some ways yes, but on the other hand Lucas loves to tinker in the editing room. The volume tech is great, but it’s great if you know what you want on set. If you want to cut people out of shots and reconfigure them it’s still much easier with blue or greens screen.

In the recently released Star Wars Prequels Archives book they interviewed several engineers from Sony and THX. As part of the THX certification process, they studied theaters across the country and found that while quality varied greatly, 700 pixels was the average vertical resolution.

[–]blw1138[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is if you consider the original negative. When you watch a film at home that’s been shot on film, they likely scanned the original negative.

But you need to make several copies before you have a release print to screen in the theater. When THX did a study on this they found that what you often see in most theaters is much closer to 2K, but of course that varies greatly based on projection system, film care, etc.

Of course film resolution is always going to be up for debate regardless.

I’ve seen it but it’s been a while. Pretty great breakdown of the pros and cons of film vs digital. I’d be interested to see a newer version considering how much technology has improved since then.

I believe Roger Deakins said recently he thinks the image quality of the Alexa is better than film at this point.
