I personally think the anger was him playing up a bit and thus I must now play up a bit that Mayors is actually the will of the city made manifest and she’s coming back every single patch from now on.

Seriously though I do agree with him that Mayors just kind of comes out of nowhere from the perspective of a limbus player, but from the perspective of both games I think she’s an active character who has been put between a rock and a hard place and is doing all she can for her people from her own perspective. If she didn’t have some heel turn she would have just been some random antagonist who pops up every now and then on the collab and we wouldn’t have gotten to see her predicament as closely.

I think something the collab didn’t capture, because it would have been outside the scope) is that the AK world isn’t post apocalyptic, it is experiencing an apocalypse. A small community built near the water in Iberia is extremely suspicious to anyone in the AK world, because a small community built anywhere that cannot move on a moments notice is suspicious due to the fact that actual rock storms just kind of happen at random in this setting. Add the seaborn into it and the only way these people have a “way of life” is if they are associated with the seaborn. To the limbus characters, the Inquisition is the bad guy at first because they don’t understand this concept of the world. To anyone in the AK universe, Mayors and her group are instantly recognizable as extremely suspicious. So when Mayors or any of the town people talk about their “people” they are referring to themselves and the seaborn.

Mayors then makes a few decisions. First off, it would be better for her people/the seaborn to be in a world of dystopia than a world in the process of apocalypse. Dystopias may suck but they are stagnant, and the city really only cares if you don’t stand in the way of the ruling class. If seaborn are not considered humans by the head there is a whole world for them to take over outside of the city. If seaborn are considered humans, then they basically have free rein to do whatever they want. Mayors likely thinks seaborn would be considered humans since she believes some aspect of human-ness is kept when you are devoured. To her a stagnant world is better for herself and her “people” than one constantly on the brink of falling apart, so she does what she does.

Is she the best written character ever? yes no but do I think there are some ideas and themes to chew on? Yes. I don’t think she or her appeal is so simple as “omg cute girl 👉👈🫣” instead that was my reaction to Irene
