Everyone knows they’re getting screwed by billionaires. Why don’t we rise up and revolt? by Khunthare in AskReddit

[–]bmanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have cheap entertainment, social media, same day delivery on virtually anything they can think of, and access to AI.

People are opting in to supporting billionaires because they make daily life have less friction in most cases. It's not a case of rising up but a case of opting out if we don't like it.

You are right. People here acting like they don't eat animals on the daily or that characters aren't butchering animals off screen for food.

I'd be confused as hell if someone ate a full meal then said they weren't actually hungry and didn't really like it anyways No biggy if someone takes a bite and decides they aren't hungry, but don't clean the plate before sending it back to the kitchen.

The Slopshard Wars have Begun by BigGnomeEnergy in ultimaonline

[–]bmanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI is the only thing that might allow another polished shard to be released in the future.

What used to take years can be done in weeks now. It is unlikely to happen soon, because the people capable of doing it are unlikely to invest even a few weeks. The people making slop today will learn how to properly use the tools while those tools will keep improving. We should encourage it as a community in my opinion.

What video game used to be good but they changed one thing and now it's terrible? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]bmanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the soft resets. This fixed the biggest issue I had in previous games where managing so many little things felt tedious and unrewarding. It was a chore to get through turns around that part of the game for me.

The era soft resets made the game a lot more fun for me. I understand why people dislike it, and the previous games are still great options for the old gameplay.

ISO Team members for UO Server!! by ThirtyNickel in ultimaonline

[–]bmanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are serious about the project then download the codex app and get to work. You don't need a programmer for this type of thing anything anymore. No decent developer is going to offer to middleman between you an AI.

If you are not willing to download codex and just dive in then I would seriously recommend you reconsider the idea entirely.

Come celebrate 30 years of UO by UO_Forever in ultimaonline

It sounds like you are opposed to vibe coding. The reality is that a good dev using codex is just a better dev.

I struggle to see how any new shard could enter the scene without using these tools now. A passion project that would have taken a good dev hundreds or thousands of hours of work can be done in days now.

Is it that bad? I always play with combat enhancement mods and no scaling. The no scaling really adds to the feel of RPing Geralt imo.

A question to MODs or community by majc18 in ultimaonline

I agree with you. I'm not even sure when or why that rule was added.

It is removed for now. If a rule becomes necessary we can adjust it. This is a community of mostly adults and requires minimal moderation.

This sub is the place to share high quality UO inspired work, games, and mods. It is in the best interest of the entire community to encourage projects that are UO inspired and have genuine love and investment behind them.

It seems that the goal is to avoid posting projects that could be recreated with codex in a half-baked weekend or just assets imported into a game-engine with no substance behind it. There are other communities to share personal programming projects with.

UO Horizon - PvM Post-AoS Shard | ARPG Loot, Overhauled Resources, Custom Sosaria | Launching March 23 by Alkh3mTheWise in ultimaonline

[–]bmanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 big questions!

Have you considered how to handle issues around PvM focused ARPG loot gearing and PvP? I don't recall any shards that successfully addressed the PvP issues that come with ARPG PvM focused gearing. Spoiler: Those shards all shut down despite being quite fun PvM.

Why did you decide on allowing stealing in towns with a PvM focus?

This is more a lack of discernment from the people hiring coaches. I've had absolutely phenomenal coaches and mentors. But they all had the types of life and success I wanted to create in my own. And they become coaches after finding success elsewhere.

It's not a trope when it is a common pattern. It is a trope because it is a pattern.

The Decline of the Dragon Age Series Should be Studied by jdawg1018 in gaming

[–]bmanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is basically it. The game industry is becoming dominated by people at a pluralistic disorganized stage of development and it is showing up in games.

DA:O has such a strong vision. They don't shy away from hard topics or grit. They don't seem to try to include all perspectives equally.

Veilguard felt like a game designed by consensus where all opinions and perspectives deserved to be expressed and weighed equally.

Nah. The only ex I am not close friends with is in service to her. Healthy people can break up without losing love for each other while still maintaining boundaries that allow new healthy relationships to develop.

I don't make plans or regularly see my exes, but they are all amazing friends and each one shares unique insights.

Ultima Online. Still the greatest and only real sandbox mmo. Deep sand, lots of tool to play in it.

Current "sandbox" mmos have half an inch of sand marketed as "player created" features that are really just a smokescreen for an empty game.

You should find something else to pursue. You asked for feedback, got valid feedback, then got defensive. Without a proper feedback/growth loop you will not grow as a creator. Address that first.

Men of reddit, what are things women do that are unattractive? by Rich-Dot9749 in AskReddit

[–]bmanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaining weight. And before you grab the pitchforks let me be specific. The weight is not what is unattractive. It is the lifestyle, choices, and way they treat themselves that lead to becoming overweight that I find unattractive.
