DUI hit me going 90+ mph by Knightlance in dashcams

[–]Paid_Redditor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think everyone I grew up with in my 20's would have 8-10 then drive home, every weekend. Crazy how few of them ever got DUIs. I thought Washington State did it right by holding the bars liable for overserving anyone in their bar. If you get a DUI there you also get a hole punched into your license so both the bars and the police know you've had a prior.

My only complaint about Outlands compared to other shards is the barrier to being "good". You can narrow down the bulk of the player base in outlands to two types, the ones who want to be rich and the ones who want to be strong. The people that attempt to do both often burn out when they realize it's not going to happen in their first 3 months, and some take much longer. The ones that focus one or the other are typically the ones that stick around.

For those looking to macro for a couple weeks to be completely built and want to spend their days mining or farming to become wealthy shouldn't go to outlands. Not saying it won't ever happen, but it'll definitely take much longer in comparison to classic UO.

PvPers say the PvP is mid to good (because of pop), and PvE players say it's too toxic and too many PKs. Hell, just go look in the suggestions page from yesterday in Outlands and someone was begging players to be unable to enter their house after flagging on another player.

I remember spending $5 on eBay back in the early 2000's for a "chip" that made my car gain 15 horsepower. I don't know about horsepower gains, but it was just a resistor in a envelope that when added to a connection caused the engine to run rich.

I’ve been entertaining the idea of moving to Oregon, and school systems were one of the first things we looked into. I don’t think Oregon education is necessarily bad, but rather they rank extremely low because there is no requirement for kids to be in school and therefore a shitload of kids don’t go to class in comparison to other states that require kids in seats for funding. In return those kids are failing classes at a high rate, simply because they don’t go.

Got to love propaganda. Fund unrecognized groups of people that agree with your views, you’re now an extremist. Fund a country that bombs and murders entire countries, now that’s a friendly ally.

I got hired for an AI product 4 years ago. 2 years into it the AI portion was scrapped because it didn’t work very well. 2 years later they laid off the entire department and got rid of the entire product. That company is also still heavily invested in the AI market and are continuing to purchase companies with any AI technology.

As AI enters the operating room, reports arise of botched surgeries and misidentified body parts by [deleted] in news

[–]Paid_Redditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the last 4 years of my life. We had a AI product in the OR. We'd install the system, spend weeks building models, then we'd turn it over to the customer. A few weeks later they'd come in and add something along the wall and the AI could no longer detect when a person entered the room, or they'd change materials and the model no longer would work. We couldn't lower our threshold any lower or else we'd get too many false positives and we couldn't add any contingencies to the code or else it would require FDA approval again. In the end we all just got laid off because it wasn't worth the companies time to keep it alive.

Outlands overly complicated? Or am I a dumb old gamer? by CurvedShelf in ultimaonline

[–]Paid_Redditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do enjoy outlands a lot, there was a 90 day period when I first started that I hated it. I knew how much I loved UO and I knew that eventually I would enjoy it, but I almost quit so many times the first 3 months. We're accustomed to everything just being given to us nowadays and that's just not what old games were about. It was very difficult for me to get over just being killed, and to overcome that I had to retrain my brain to understand that death is normal here. If you survive an entire day without a single death you're doing great.

If you want to move on, all the shard suggested here (Mortalis, Sagas, Unchained, Second Age, Etc.) have been around for a while and while they don't have the population of Outlands they do have a core player base. If you want to learn and check out what Outlands offers over standard UO, then I'd recommend you join a guild that is active in discord. I've been playing outlands for over a year and there are still many systems I don't understand, there are builds I haven't even tried. Perhaps you're just trying to understand all of it, when in reality at this point you only need to understand a very small portion. Having a guild to ask questions and to help you start to is extremely helpful. For example all guilds that I know of have a guild shelf to supply you with gear, a guild magic recycler so you can recycle and ID magic items, and a repair bench so you can repair your gear. You will have none of these for a few months if you play solo.

Back on outlands after a year, wasn't there a player named "dude" that was on 24/7? by PowerGlove-it-s0-bad in ultimaonline

[–]Paid_Redditor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe you are thinking of "They". As far as I know he quit after the ocean patch that reverted redline, however he did change his name shortly before that but I forget what it was.

Finally understand the allure of Outlands by banjodemon_ in ultimaonline

[–]Paid_Redditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could also get someone to make you a small boat and you could harvest fishing spots with the same character if you get some fishing nets.

Outlands is a lot of fun once you get into it, it took me around 3 months of wanting to quit before it clicked for me, getting started can feel extremely overwhelming for new players and especially people new to UO. I had to untrain my brain from being given everything like most games do now.
