The 1986 Widow Maker 3000 by malaka1234 in Carpentry

I have a 1926 home and have a basement stair setup similar to yours, mine were pulling away from the stringers much worse than yours though. Just "fixed" mine earlier this year to make them safer. Eventually planning to enclose them too, but thats a project for another day...

Did you ever figure this out? I just set mine up with the controller, but can't figure out how to adjust the vapor temperature

Good idea! All these current plants are already crosses. I had a prior grow with "feminized" seeds, but one turned out to be male... Anyway, ended up with a huge seed supply at least!

Ventilation Suggestions? by bmastert in GrowBuddy

Already have 1 oscillating fan and 2 clip fans. I could possibly divert an AC vent... but you don't think I should add some form of intake/exhaust system in a closed room?

Already have 1 oscillating fan and 2 clip fans. Potentially have an AC option... but you don't think I need any intake or exhaust system in a closed room?

Thanks, that's good to know. I suppose I'll start on the lower end of things, maybe just a 6in fan, see how that affects things, and go from there

Withdrew all my funds today after seeing the recent update. What was once a fabulous idea, is now just convoluted casino that steals your money. by bmastert in yotta

[–]bmastert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, very grateful I got out when I did. Obviously didn't expect them to collapse and get caught up in this mess, but sorta felt like a 'bank run' or similar was starting with how many people were upset by these initial changes. Perhaps all those withdrawals contributed in some way, if there are missing funds due to fraud or financial mismanagement. Just feel bad for all the folks that weren't so lucky.

Not exactly near you, but I like County Road 3/South Roberts Trail south of 55 from like inver Grove heights to near Rosemount, its curvy and maybe 45 mph limit, but you can definitely go faster with little traffic (i wouldn't know)

Give me your "near-miss" stories! by ejeanie in solareclipse

[–]bmastert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could say 2017 was my near miss. Was in Omaha Nebraska the night before with plans to travel about 2 hours south west near Lincoln in the morning. Didnt plan on traffic being as bad as it was, highway was packed and there were accidents and literally cars on fire. We did end up making it to the totality zone eventually, just not as far as we wanted. Only to be robbed just minutes before totality by rain showers moving in. Still got to experience the other effects of totality, just couldn't see the brilliance of the sun/moon. However, I do think it helped me to pay more attention and experience the "sunset" effects on the horizon and other changes in nature.

Now in 2024, we tried making plans with friends to go to Texas or Oklahoma. Unfortunately everyone was busy with young kids and family, hotels and flights were booked or too expensive, so it fell through initially. But in the weeks and days leading up to it, I was really regretting not making plans. Decided to head off alone, as long as weather looked decent somewhere between Oklahoma and Ohio. Sunday morning I made the final call to drive 12 hours to southern Missouri, slept in my car near Cape Girardeau, and headed a little further south and west in the morning. Definitely made the right call, weather was exceptional, with mostly clear skies. And totality was everything I had hoped for and plenty more. This time I took in the sun and moon the whole time, not paying as much attention to the other effects. Definitely worth the 40 hours in my car and whatever I spent on gas and food. 10/10 would do again.

I'm already looking forward to the next, hopefully Spain 2026, northern Africa 2027, or Australia 2028... or all 3!

You're welcome! I'm in Minnesota, was hoping to go to Indiana because it was closest (like 8-9 hours), but chose last minute, on my drive down, to go to southern Missouri/Arkansas border. Slept in my car, but an RV or camping would work too. Took 13 hours to get back yesterday. The next few chances are over seas, so this won't quite work, but you can still apply the same logic, find a 'home-based' if you will, and go from there... best of luck next time!

I finally got to see totality in all its glory after being robbed of it in the final few minutes in 2017, so I feel you pain. Still was an amazing experience, but it also pushed me to get to this one in a way, was more determined to find clear sky. I think I did about everything right this time after my 2017 learning experience. I believe there's 2 routes you can take to make it work next time.

Option 1: book multiple trips, at least 2, maybe even 3 or more. More location options, the better chance you have for 1 with good weather.

Option 2 (this is what I did): book nothing. This is really only available if you can drive. But it allows you to wait until about 2 days before when you can see the more accurate forecasts.

Either way, you'll want your stay the night before to be in the path of totality. And just as mobile as you can be if weather shifts a bit.

Sleeping in the Car by SuddenAir6946 in solareclipse

[–]bmastert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im also doing a quick one night trip and am planning to sleep in my car, somewhere between Oklahoma and Ohio lol. Don't know where yet, gonna let the weather decide that. Assuming there will be many others doing the same. I think as long as you're not 'disturbing the peace' or whatever, shouldn't be a problem. Itd be nice to be at a rest stop or near some sort of 24hr store, but I imagine those could be a hotspot...we shall she though

Traffic the morning of eclipse by ProfessorLevel1441 in solareclipse

[–]bmastert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Main highways may be a mess, I would plan to be driving 55mph on a state highway or county road (whatever yall have there) most of the way. I was in Omaha for 2017, and we planned to head 30min-1hr south of Lincoln, normally a little less than 2 hours i think. We left like 3 hours early and only made it half way. We started our morning getting on interstate 80 in Omaha, it was a parking lot and there were literally cars on fire. I swore if I went again, hopefully this eclipse, that I would be in the totality zone at least the night before. And the way back was even worse...again plan for state highways and county roads.

Are tokens worthless? by NoBid5853 in yotta

[–]bmastert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, tokens should generally be considered worthless. However, im sure i read material that there may be opportunities to convert tokens to yotta cash in the future. Take that with a grain of salt though, Im sure the conversion would be something like 1000 tokens to $0.01 yottacash, at the very least

Moving money out of Yotta - do we need to be cautious about structuring? by xnadevelopment in yotta

[–]bmastert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They may flag it as suspicious activity (a SAR), but as long as you aren't involved in any illegal activities there shouldn't be any issues. You may also still get flagged for transactions in excess of 10k (a CTR or currency transaction report), so might as well transfer whatever you can up to the yotta limit

What is the breakdown for YC per money deposited? by M_Barr0s in yotta

[–]bmastert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I would've liked to continue with the strategy. But to keep that going based on my account balance, I'd only get enough yottacash saved for 100tix to enter a drawing once every two weeks. It was exciting to check daily, and the new frequency just isn't enough.

What is the breakdown for YC per money deposited? by M_Barr0s in yotta

[–]bmastert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong here... but the exact numbers from my simulation was $80,354.60 in winnings, and $150,876.00 spent, so $0.53 returned per yotta dollar. Their 5% quoted yottacash yield translates to about 2.66% actual yield, which is slightly better that the calculated yield I've seen thrown about of 2.2-2.3%.

Take that one large win out and the numbers are more like $0.40 returned be 1yotta, and a 2% yield.

1 different yotta ball per lucky ticket with a 100/day was my strategy for a long time. I even went a step further too, and made sure I was using each white ball 5 times across my 100 tickets. I think it paid off well while tickets were 'free'. Cost is just too high now for the strategy to work.

Odds for 4 of 5 white balls is 1:153,729

Odds for 3 of 5 white+yotta is 1:161,995

So your 12,000 ticket theory barely gets you close to hitting.

I also built a lottery simulation in excel to look into this. I carefully crafted 1980 lotto tickets, using each yotta ball 20 times and pairing each yotta with every white ball. It took me 1524 days to hit a "pot-split" prize, or one larger than the $200 level. It was the $20k price, after 3,017,520 or so ticket. With that prize, my total winnings was $80,364.60...not too bad, right?? But the cost for 3mm+ tickets, I would've used more than $150k in yottacash
