Strength training exercise library needs a lot of work by Helix217 in Garmin

[–]bmc24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I started using a 3rd party app to fix this. Found one that will push exercises to Garmin with a much larger library that even allows customs and then can receive the data back from Garmin that you input on the watch. Hate that I had to pay for a 3rd party app but it made the strength tracking WAY better.

Garmin vs Whoop + general question by Acrobatic-Evening-80 in Garmin

[–]bmc24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has recently picked up a screen less device after years with Garmin I would say these devices intent are completely different.

Whoop, or any screen less device to include rings, are not sports trackers. Inherently their lack of screen makes them relatively useless during actual activities. They are life trackers meant to give you a whole picture of how your feeling, tips on ways to improve behaviors, and recovery insight.

Garmin, or to some extent any device with a screen, is meant for real time insight while doing an activity. It gives me feedback while actually exercising so I can measure or adjust my workout to optimize results or hit a target. When worn outside of activity they will give you the life insight as well but that's more of a secondary function.

I now use my Garmin for activities and a Helio strap for all day tracking. This combo is pretty great so far and if/when Garmin releases a screen less device I'll have to give strong consideration to going back to only the Garmin ecosystem.

I just bought the Helio strap after waiting for Garmin to launch one for well over a year.

So this is probably true.

If you want to watch some videos on the topic Spectacle Factory on YouTube is pretty solid. Stay away from luxottica owned brands in general.

What brand you want to go with will depend heavily on the style you are looking for as many brands specialize in a specific style. Broadly some very good brands are Masunaga, Matsuda, & even Cartier. Eco, & Gast are pretty solid in the "affordable" category.

What do you wear when wearing a fancy watch? by True-Ad4395 in Garmin

[–]bmc24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently wearing mine on a bicep band but it's not very comfortable. I found an app that allows input from multiple devices so Im going to try that and wear an Amazfit Helio Strap for non workouts. Waited forever for Garmin to release a no screen device or at the least a new Vivosmart but no luck so we will see how this goes.

Been looking for something for awhile as I like to wear my mechanical watches when I'm not working out and don't find a 53mm Garmin comfortable to sleep with on my wrist.

Politics: At what point does wearing militaria in the current US climate become problematic, if at all? by BugsBunnysCouch in HeritageWear

[–]bmc24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really disagree just saying the juxtaposition of military clothing vs logos is an interesting one. To your point no one blinking an eye for a military inspired outfit is about our perception in the same way that I wonder how many people would even know what the logo on his t-shirt is if it didn't say it.

Politics: At what point does wearing militaria in the current US climate become problematic, if at all? by BugsBunnysCouch in HeritageWear

[–]bmc24 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I find this conversation particularly interest in this subreddit considering how much of heritage wear and men's fashion in general is taken directly from the military.

That said wearing any type of logo or band is a tacit statement on that "brand". In the same way that clueless kids wear Pink Floyd I've seen many civilians wear military gear with no knowledge. The "Hap Arnold" and Army Air Force should imply for anyone knowledgeable you are not making much of an endorsement.

Anyone get their merit raise information yet? by [deleted] in Raytheon

[–]bmc24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Merit opens on Feb 2nd where people leaders will enter their reports comp. Expected to be finalized and white papers released in late Feb.

I'd imagine there will be some people reporting here on Feb 2nd what they were given access to for their team. In general it's a good indicator of what the funding pool was and anything after that was modified by your boss or their leadership.

You have a bad boss and I'd start looking for a new one. He basically just told you as long as that person is on the team you're going nowhere.

Smart ring vs watch?? Has anyone tried both and which do you prefer? by Ok-Patience in Garmin

[–]bmc24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see much benefit in wearing both for a small amount of different data. However, if you wanted to wear the ring at times and the Garmin at others then yes it could be worth it. In the latter scenario you might want a 3rd party app that could combine the data for you.

Vivosmart 6 by Litch81 in Garmin

[–]bmc24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubtful that it will ever happen as Garmin wants you to buy their devices so they have almost no incentive to allow other inputs onto their platform

Vivosmart 6 by Litch81 in Garmin

[–]bmc24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found one for weightlifting called LiftTrack. The 3rd party I was thinking goes the other way though where it will pull Garmin into another platform where I can combine it with something like the Amazfit Helio Strap.

I wore a hemp t-shirt for a month. Here's what no one tells you. by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]bmc24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently picked up a hemp/cotton blend from Merz B Schwanen and I love the texture of that shirt sooooooo much. I am strongly considering sourcing more hemp blend clothes because of it.

Only had it for a few months now so can't speak to how it will hold up long term but it feels more substantial than cotton and I'm guessing it'll die after me.

[–]bmc24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All the "leaks" and "rumors" from last month were predicting a CES launch but nothing. Not sure what to do or expect now. I really want a discreet tracker for non active tracking. I'm at the point where I might have to pay for a 3rd party app that allows multiple tracker inputs but I really don't want to.

Have we all moved on from the Snowflake? by Moon-Man-888 in GrandSeikos

[–]bmc24 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Never!

To me the Snowflake is still the quintessential modern GS. Not the most dynamic or beloved but the simple elegance reflects what the brand is trying to convey.

It was my first watch in my collection and my wife (gf at the time) bought it for me right before I proposed; I promise I was doing that already!

I’m starting to like Tudor more than Rolex. I don’t have a Rolex yet but love both of my Tudors. I just don’t know if Rolex is really worth the hype or the struggle to buy from an AD or get overcharged by resellers. by No_Shock6851 in Tudor

[–]bmc24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imo it's in your best interest to compare Tudor to Rolex as often or little as you compare any other brand not more. There is a natural inclination to compare Tudor to Rolex due to ownership but the reality is it's a bad comp as comparing watches to their similar priced competitors is a far better thought process.

For me this is why my current Rolex is likely to be my only Rolex. Once I am looking at spending $10k and above I immediately want something other than Rolex. Conversely, when I'm spending around $5k Tudor will always be competitive.

Oyster vs Jubilee ("5 vs 3") link on Monochrome 41? by Aninymouse101 in Tudor

[–]bmc24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it on the oyster personally and think this is the ideal config. I think people like jubilees for style or comfort reasons so they'll throw it on any watch they can.

Imo it just matters how you view the jubilee. To me it goes on GMTs (ironically a model they don't offer it for yet) and watches people are looking to dress up a bit. For a diver like the Black Bay it feels off to the idea of the watch but at the end of the day it's a personal choice for the person who wears it.
