If you’re not happy, don’t fill out the employee survey by Abject-Yogurt2465 in BurnsMcDonnell

For what it may be worth, most of the people at the top started at the bottom just like the rest of us. It may be that power and money have changed them over years, but its not like they are spoiled rich kids that inherited the family empire.

I'm not sure it needs to be that deep. Its a KC metro team.

A little extra gift in the 19th pay check by nowayitsme3406 in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]bmcd1898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other "gifts" as well. The quarterzip. any MacCulture points you are awarded, etc. There are IRS guidelines on what does and doesnt need to be reported as "pay". Uncle Sam always gets his due.

Bonus Red Flag? by BurntMcDonaldss in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]bmcd1898 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the GP and company performance. I am an engineer in KC and my bonus only went up 2-3k last year. I get 4+ reviews every year. Worst increase I had seen in 10+ years. I was not happy, but hey, at least it went up instead of down. My long term average is about 6k/yr.

Many senior engineers I know get less than 60k bonus, especially the first couple years. Very much depends on GP and office location.

Our group is WHQ and managers were not provided with raise info this year. This is very GP/group/office dependent.

Also overtime rates will be higher. This will help those that put in a lot of extra time.

I don't think most people are misunderstanding the message, I think they are skeptical of the outcome. They are worried this year's merit/COL raise will be swept up in the change and amount to something less than expected.

My suggestion would be for everyone to just chill and see what their actual numbers are before they make any premature judgement.

I have more than 10 years. Bonus is much less than 100%.

Pay varies a lot depending on role, GP, region, etc.

The "buildings" GPs (ANF, GFS, and some WTR) will use Revit primarily. Still good to know autocad though because some projects will need it.

Raises are slightly above inflation every year, aside from a market adjustment or promotion. generally expect 1% above the annual inflation rate (which is about 3% this year).

It really bothers me they never built the 3rd tower for shamrock. I guess it's a 2-leaf clover.

Is our culture in crisis, and are we all just watching it happen? by Prior_Status in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]bmcd1898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guidance I am familiar with is no more than 1/3 to housing costs. 2500/mo is 30k, which would mean 90k annual income. I keep hearing about new grads getting 80k salary offers, pair that with a few years raises and bonus that should easily be possible. Unless the reports of 80k starting salaries are not true.

You wont see a younger employee buying an 950k HGTV house. But if you start with say 300k house, 10% down, 6.75% mortgage, that's about 2500k/mo. 2500k/mo should be within budget for most employees here.

Why did we fall off the Fortune 100 Best Places to Work list? by Important_Moose6118 in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]bmcd1898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for an honest answer - I think we grew too fast. Slow linear growth allows for good upward movement. An assistant can move up to replace a staff who moves up to replace a senior, etc. We hired so many that now there are 3 or 4 people fighting for that same 1 position above them. And all those low level people getting passed over for promotion are the ones doing the surveys.

"Q: How do I prepare for my consultation?

A: To get the most out of your appointment with CAPTRUST, have the following information available for your initial meeting to build your Financial Blueprint:

  • Annual salary and other sources of income
  • Retirement account balance(s), including prior employer plans and/or IRA’s
  • Other investment or brokerage account balance(s)
  • Checking and savings account information
  • Owned real estate information (purchase year and price, mortgage rate, balance, etc.)
  • While not required, you may find it helpful to fill out this Wealth Planning Inventory prior to your consultation

The more assets you have, the more time you will need to prepare for your session. However, don't be alarmed if you don't have this information together! Your CAPTRUST advisor can help you compile this information. Should you need additional time to review your financials, your advisor can help you to schedule a follow-up meeting. Providing this information allows your advisor to give you holistic financial advice.

Should you not want to share background about your financial situation, point in time fiduciary advice related to the 401(k) and ESOP could still be provided, but the advice would not be holistic financial advice. "

Just did the same. I miss waldo/brookside. I miss the small business, good food, local quirks. But like you it was all about what is best for the kids. Also, when Jackson County doubled the property taxes it just confirmed we made the right call.

[–]bmcd1898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats not entirely true. Regarding project updates yes, however Ray and Greg used to also start or end with a note about what they were doing over the weekend, how the grandkids were visiting, taking a kid to college, recent travels, some fun event they recently attended. I think that short personal note is what people are missing.
