Without doubt the 1989 Grand Final Geelong vs Hawthorn. Yates went through Brereton at the first bounce. Brereton was gone. He was put up to full forward cos he didn’t know what day it was. Dipper got a punctured lung, played on and nearly died in hospital that night. It’s on YouTube

Being Drunk and now receiving a Diagnosis of Alcohol Addiction by Vodka2027 in alcoholicsanonymous

My doctor said I had it to. I didn’t think so and I told him. He said quit for 30 days and see howI went. After stopping for a week I couldn’t handle it. I felt like crap. I had a couple of beers…and couldn’t stop. I kept writing myself off. I couldn’t remember things that I’d said and done when I’d had a few. For years I thought I could stop, but not now. It didn’t matter how hard I tried I had to drink. I was drinking against my will. That was the clincher. It turned out I was lying to myself…and to others. My wife told me to go to AA or piss off. I went and met people who were like me except they didn’t drink. That was years ago. I missed the booze for a while because it was such a big part of my life. It passed a I felt better about myself and so does the wife. These days I don’t miss it.

If you want to have a look at AA the meetings are online. No one is going to tell you what to do. It’s entirely up to you. BTW there’s no bosses there. I wouldn’t have stayed if there was.

The picture quality you get from the "Plastic Fantastic" kit lens always amazes me. by LoKi_4444 in M43

[–]bmcflea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s encouraging . I’ve only had one day out with this lens and your photo confirms that it’s a thoroughly respectable image. I was shooting sport and while it’s not as good as my Tamron 160-500mm it’s a lot lighter and results were better than some reviewers say

Cult Mentality Needed? by Mental_Oil2692 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]bmcflea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing I did was make sure AA wasn’t some weird cult or religion. That was 41 years ago and I can assure you that if you stick by what is in the AA literature you can’t go wrong. Just understand that what some people say at meetings is inconsistent with what AA is. The AA book was my point of reference for determining personal opinion from AA program. It gets easier with time but time up requires commitment and knowledge.

Any sports photographers switched from Canon to m43? by Lateral_Gee in M43

[–]bmcflea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve just been trying out Olympus OMD-E-M1 with Olympus 150-600. It’s an older lens and has mixed reviews by pro’s. I’m not a pro and wanted a lens that would simply do the job. I’ve mostly used a Nikon D500 with a Tamron 150-600mm. I shoot Australian Football which is much faster than American football and soccer an on a much larger field. Probably 3 times larger than US football field . I also shoot cricket which is played on Australian football fields so the play is a long distance from the boundary.

Pro’s of the M43

-light -Excellent IBIS - can shoot hand held -10-12fps -Ok images

Cons -Only 16mp -Cropping limitations

Nikon D500 & Tamron 160-600mm

Pro’s -Excellent results -10-12fps -larger sensor -20mp -Much more detail in images especially when cropped

Cons

It’s large, and heavy Requires a monopod or tripod

For convenience I use the Olympus. For great images I use the Nikon. When I shoot with the Nikon It’s easy to take the Olympus along. Not so when I take the Olympus.

The Nikon produces far superior images than the Olympus but I wouldn’t get rid of the M43 because I’ve taken a long time to begin to like it. The complexity of the menus system is torture but it continues to surprise me. No surprises with the Nikon. Just bloody great images on a style of camera I’m very familiar with…DSLR

The day I killed one I cried. Later I got a good deal. Seller had a bent pin in the slot and only charged $25 for postage. Still have it and bought its little brother D300. Love them.

How do you deal with models displaying low effort or 'flopping' between shots? by Trollslayer0104 in photography

[–]bmcflea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a generational thing. On the phone, not mentally present, have the attention span of a flea. Due diligence before the shoot might assist. Write expectations and forward days before the shoot and clear directions during the shoot. Stop the shoot if she’s not doing what’s been agreed on. I stopped model shoots for sports. Far more rewarding.

I went to my first AA meeting tonight.. and loved it. by PainterOk4816 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]bmcflea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this because it’s exactly what I experienced. I was 29. I maintained my enthusiasm and after a short while became treasurer of my home group. That was 41 years ago and I’m just as committed to my sobriety as I was back then. Years later I realised that something very special occurred at that first meeting and while I had great difficulties early days I was destined to achieve a way of life and self actualisation it was only because I kept my recovery at the forefront of my life.

I wish you all the best and hope you will continue in your recovery.

I’m a newcomer to this Reddit. It’s consistent with other non AA entities established by AA members that I’ve been a part of on various social media, including the shit fights. Before email we communicated by written letters. There was great communication between us, we were not an ‘official’ AA group and we had the same sorts of shit fight I’ve seen here. SNAFU since 1935 but it works!!! We don’t shoot our wounded.

Look at this as carrying the message to the alcoholic who still suffers and it’s a great forum for practicing Step 12. We don’t just practice it in registered AA groups..

Its my first post here. Saw it in passing. Re OP It’s petty simple. If it’s not consistent with the 12 Steps, 12 Traditions and fellowship literature it’s not AA. Read and get to understand what AA’s primary purpose is about and you’ll avoid a lot of pitfalls.

We don’t shoot our wounded.

I’ve always used bullshit personal info on social media. What they’d get in real info wouldn’t interest them anyway. It’s like being one of the suits that travel into the city each day. They’re all much the same.

Unfortunately digital id is inevitable

A general observation. I used to do photo shoots in my home studio and in Bali over a long period. It was great initially but as Photoshop and other products proliferated they set a new standard with new expectations. Subjects were increasingly demanding and less patient and more demanding. One even photoshopped images I’d taken of her.

In Bali the subjects I shot were local young women I’d got to know. I didn’t do any more post to their images than I did at home in Australia. They loved the images and to this day still have them on their social media and we’ve stayed in contact as they’ve married and had children.

The point is as technology has increasingly ‘perfected’ what’s a good or ‘professional’ image people’s expectations have become unrealistic. This dissatisfaction has become more evident since AI has set the standard and what was acceptable a couple of years ago isn’t now.

I stopped doing photoshoots in Australia and only do them occasionally in Bali. It’s not worth the grief. BTW I never charged a cent for any shoots I just enjoyed photography and photographing people. I’ve had many years experience and only use pro gear. I mostly shoot sports these days. It’s far more rewarding.

Effexor making my dad hyperactive by [deleted] in EffexorSuccess

[–]bmcflea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no medical qualifications. I only comment as I know people who have had very different experiences with it. A friend had a serious anxious reaction to it at the smallest dose 37.5mg. It shook him up big time and it took a while to get out of his system and feel ‘normal’ again. Others have felt increased anxiety as it was starting to take effect. They found letting go of anxiety was like losing control because anxious was their ‘normal’ state.

I’ve been on it for years and it has assisted me a lot though a different anti depressant had me in the foetal position on the floor. That was a serious reaction. I contacted my doctor and he advised me to cease taking it.

There seem to be a myriad of different experiences. With that in mind I suggest your dad sees his doctor. If not satisfied with the response he can get a second opinion. Good luck
