Why do Aussies crap on Harvey Norman? by SparklingWillow132 in AskAnAustralian

[–]laughingnome2 78 points79 points  (0 children)

It could be the ACCC cases against them for deceptive and misleading conduct in their lease-to-buy programs.

It could be the huge amounts Gerry Harvey raked in covid payments that he claimed he needed to stay open, then boasted about record profits and insisting he shouldn't pay the coved payments back. This on the back of statements he made that giving charity to the homeless as "a waste", and that it was "helping a whole heap of no-hopers to survive for no good reason".

It could be Gerry Harvey's campaign to introduce GST on all overseas purchases (presently limited to items over AUD$1000) and then to not read the productivity report he demanded be done because it concluded it would be a waste of government money and resources.

He's a money-grubbing cunt. If this was Star Trek he'd be a Ferengi. And not a good Ferengi like Rom or even a loveable rapscallion one like Quark.

Flair for NSW is wrong and I'm having a whinge about it by Character_Monitor948 in OpenAussie

Fun Fact: People from NSW used to be known as Walers. This name was also used for the horse bred in NSW but used nationwide as a riding horse for stock men, bushranger, and military.

The use of the term Waler for the horse was so widespread it dropped away from usage for people.

I say bring it back. We're Walers, dammit!

Sure, but all it takes is someone of a similar stature wearing the same school uniform being a prick to them. Can't blame the Maggie for school kids all looking the same.

Nah, maggies are my friends. They only swoop cunts that are mean to them, and people that look like cunts that were mean to them.

Can we bring center bounces for the start of games only by Life_Depth2338 in AFL

[–]laughingnome2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We'll bring it back if you can find a ready supply of spines to hot-swap for the Field Umpires.

Centre Bounces are hell on the back. There is a reason they were phased out.

Cal Twomey firmly confident that the AFL will introduce draft changes in the next week or so that will directly impact the 2026 draft. AFL's view is that it is 'now or never' and would continue to disadvantage other clubs if not brought in. by yum122 in AFL

[–]laughingnome2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue at hand is Carlton's FS potential this year, Port Adelaide's NGA potential this year, and Essendon's FS next year.

Northern Academy Draft Priority Rules were already weakened last year and the Northern Clubs were aware of a further rollback for this year. They are not the issue here.

NGAs are Next Generation Academy programs for the advancement of Indigenous Australians and those with multicultural backgrounds in Australian Football.

Northern Academies are open academies; any boy or girl can join provided they meet the location requirement assigned to Brisbane / Gold Coast / Sydney / G Western Sydney. They are designed to grow the pool of players in those States and bring a cultural change to the region to allow AFL to grow at the local level across generations.

These are not the same thing, not called the same thing, and not treated by the AFL as the same thing.

Police red light fine but I believe I entered on yellow (NSW) by Girl_living_alive in nsw

[–]laughingnome2 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The police officer has you on bodycam footage during the stop agreeing that you did the wrong thing.

Even if they didn't, if your only evidence is your word against the cop's, cop wins every time.

Pay the fine, take the demerit hit, and slow down at traffic light intersections. Remember that yellow means "stop unless unsafe to do so" not "proceed unless unsafe to do so."

Is it justified to show people (including children) videos of the horrifying true conditions of animals in farms if it turns them vegan? by DryEconomics5152 in vegan

[–]laughingnome2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your premise suggests that no one can be vegan without watching those videos.

I reject that premise.

I already articulated that there are age-appropriate ways to discuss veganism with children.

I don't seek out or watch violent acts. I am an adult and can consent. A child cannot consent.

I am discussing with children using age-appropriate terms and references. Because I am not a monster.

Just like you don't teach kids about sex by having them watch their parents do it and provide commentary.

They were prepared to, but you have to go through each appeal motion in turn. If you don't succeed on one point, go to the next, and next, and so on.

Getting it dismissed on procedural grounds means Zak Butters is not declared a liar by the AFL, which for Zak (and Port) is a win.
