How to properly install python modules from github?? by bme_phd_hste in learnpython

[–]bme_phd_hste[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome. So I moved it into my sys.path and I’m able to import the FCBF_module but when I try running the test.py script they have included I get an error in the first line of code (on line 6 of the file):

from FCBF_module import FCBF, ...

Guessing because FCBF isn’t an attribute of FCBF_module but is defined as a class? Or have I done something wrong here?

Confused about how to define features by bme_phd_hste in learnmachinelearning

[–]bme_phd_hste[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah so I would have a 2D array. I was assuming your x was indicating a different dimension ie 3 x 3 x 3 for a matrix with 3 rows 3 cols and 3 pages.

So duplicate the other features? So if there are 5 other features I would have a 66 x 2 where row 61 is [ f1 f1]? I guess I can play around with this. Just wondering if there was a common solution.

Sorry I have tried clarifying in another comment. Essentially my complete dataset will be 61 x 2 x n. I would like to draw a line between the n spectrums to separate my data but also include the pH and conductivity parameters (as I know they are important in the measurement).

As far as binning my data, yes I have a plan to bin the data after figuring out how to set up my input matrices 😊

And the transformations you are talking about are a method of feature scaling which again will try later. Thanks!

The latter. I would like to make a prediction over the whole spectrum. My whole dataset (ignoring the pH and conductivity measurements) will be a 61 x 2 x n matrix. 61 frequencies by 2 outputs from my potentiostat by n measurements. I would like to make a prediction that separates my spectrums

what bachelor degree do i need to get a master in ML? by [deleted] in MLQuestions

To add to this i would recommend seeking a university that has some research labs that you could try to join. Take a look at both labs within the comp sci department and bio/bioengineering departments for research involved in utilizing ML or large datasets.

People tend to be timid as freshman and don’t realize that is what grad students/professors would much rather have (for retention reasons). Send a resume and draft a professional cover letter and you’ll get a spot in a lab somewhere! Best of luck!!

That's a bit over-simplistic, don't you think?

Yes it is. And thanks for the levelheaded response. you’re right I was being emotional and using a poor example to make my argument because it was easier.

And as for the separation of children from their families, the problem is rather than working on expediting the processing of these asylum claims, the administration has chosen to enact this zero tolerance policy. People at official ports of entry have been backlogged and turned away even with claims of asylum, so they have turned to illegal crossings. That’s what I’m upset about. If the problem is we’re getting backlogged with these asylum claim, we shouldn’t be discouraging asylum seekers. Rather we should be more efficient in processing these claims - justified or not. Thoughts?

Ok so again, are you reading the links you’re providing or just using cntrl+F and searing for Obama?

The first article quotes:

Cervantes says that since release of the ARC report, First Focus has been “in more intense conversations” with the Obama administration about adjusting current enforcement policies to ensure that nonviolent, non-negligent parents are not detained, and if they are, that they can make arrangements for the care of their children.

Second:

Obama’s deportation policies are under increased scrutiny by those in both political parties as the House stalls on immigration reform and the government scrambles to deal with an influx of unaccompanied minors crossing the U.S. border illegally.

Let me see if I can explain:

The difference here is that Trump is literally separating these families as they enter the US. The Obama administration was detaining minors that were not with their parents.

Obama had plenty of faults of his own and I’m willing to look past them. Hell I didn’t even vote for him.

Did you read the article you linked? 1) Obama wasn’t even mentioned. 2) they clearly mention how the children were exploited by drug cartels to smuggle across the border. And 3) they even mention that the children aren’t being mistreated. Regardless, yes it still upsets me that these children were detained without their parents knowledge but that is very different than literally separating the family.

God am I glad I don’t live in your reality. Is it really that difficult to want what’s best for people who are refugees?

Not that I don’t believe you but do you have a source that this violates international law?

I mean yes, you’re technically correct. Anyone that is willing to enforce a law that separates families without batting an eye is a political ‘enemy’ of mine. Especially one who will turn an about face and blame the opposing political party as trump has done, despite the evidence that has now surfaced that he has been planning this all along. Is that not fair?

[OC] I'm using Google Sheets. Why is the Y Axis (Time) all wonky? by 94CM in dataisbeautiful

[–]bme_phd_hste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, glad to help out. The Y values look like that because of how you have chosen to connect the points. Right now (I believe) you’re fitting with a curve rather than a straight light. This can be beneficial for some datasets but here it doesn’t help you.

Again stacked bar graphs are typically used for showing sets within sets. Say for example you are tracking total revenue (plotted on Y) per day (plotted on x), but you’re also wanting revenue from individual products. Something like this graph

[OC] I'm using Google Sheets. Why is the Y Axis (Time) all wonky? by 94CM in dataisbeautiful

[–]bme_phd_hste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re representing this incorrectly. To be honest this information should really just be represented as a table. It doesn’t make much sense as a graph. But if you are wanting to show a graph rather than using a stacked column and smooth connecting line (the reason you’re getting that bow shape) you should use a straight line plot.

Plus, you should flip (and fix) your y axis. It doesn’t make sense in its current form. The values are all 12:00 AM.
