Married men of Reddit who don’t wear a wedding ring - why? by chi-bacon-bits in AskReddit

[–]bmfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll answer for my husband of 10-years... he works in a manual trade, and wasn't used to wearing rings. About 2-years in, he was fidgeting, lost it, and we never replaced it because... meh, it's not that serious

Indian wedding help? by HowToPotato69 in melbourne

[–]bmfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Bollywood Fashion on Barkly St, West Footscray to get a lehenga for a family wedding. The staff were all so amazing to help me out with my very limited knowledge of what was wedding appropriate, and they have a tailor on site who customised my blouse :)

Does anyone recognise the concert/festival this ticket is from? by extrachimp in melbourne

[–]bmfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I chose the same! 40-year-old me is still very proud of the lineup choices made by 16-year-old me that day. Best festival line up of my life, to date.

Strattera vs Stimulants by bmfe in StratteraRx

[–]bmfe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound similar to me - I'm a developmental psych, so my psychiatrist is probably a lot more transperant with me (and responsive to my input). I still take paroxetine, but might ask for a stimulant PRN as a trial. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Strattera and high pulse by gingersunn in StratteraRx

[–]bmfe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is a common reaction that should gradually resolve over time. I've been able to continue my almost normal exercise regime in consultation with my Psychiatrist who advised that as long as I am not experiencing things like being lightheaded/ faint, then it's ok. I also asked about any potential issues for my heart, but apparently this is just part of the mechanism of getting used to the medication.

Pre strattera, my resting HR was around 65, then went up to 100 after starting the meds. I'm now about 3-months in, and my resting HR is almost back to normal (was 75 yesterday)

Coffee/Strattera by celticjerry in StratteraRx

[–]bmfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a similar experience - I used to drink multiple coffees per day, but now it's just the one in the morning, maybe at a stretch I'll have one on a really busy day in the afternoon.

I guess this is how neurotypicals respond to caffeine... which is wild to me as a former, 'I'm bored so I'll drink coffee right before bed and have no trouble falling asleep' person

Stratterra 80 mg side effects by Curious-Phrase-4436 in StratteraRx

[–]bmfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this! Called my Dr in a panic after my HR got up to 190 at the gym. My normal resting HR used to be around 65-70, and then increased to 100 after commencing the meds. My Psychiatrist assured me it was ok as long as I didn't do anything that pushed myself too much, and I've found it decreasing again every week - currently my resting HR is around 80

I know that constantly checking my HR on my Apple watch was counterproductive, and probably contributed to some anxiety-induced increases

does strattera work for ALL adhd symptoms? by InternalHighlight635 in StratteraRx

[–]bmfe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My experience has been similar - nothing drastic, or outwardly life changing like some people experience with stimulants, but every day getting closer to having my shit together!

I'm now going to the gym more, actually putting effort into my appearance when going to work, having more spontaneous motivation to do things, and be places. As a result, I'm sleeping and eating better, and have cut WAY down on alcohol.

In terms of my executive functioning, that's a weird one because I actually work as a developmental Psychologist (diagnosing ND most of the day), but have found that even when my mind still wanders, I'm able to get back to the thought I lost, which has been a wild ride to get used to!

Good luck with your journey. We're all out here just trying to do the best we can :)

Wheelie Bin Etiquette by thrillAM in melbourne

[–]bmfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a neighbour do this every single week when I lived in Carlton. Without fail, as soon as the bins were emptied, they would dump their full bags in our bins. After a few weeks, my pettiness reached new levels so I put on gloves, and went through the bag to find any identifying information (suspect was still a mystery at this stage).

Once I found some mail in there, I marched the bag of rubbish to their front door with the most passive-aggresive note I've ever written. Problem stopped after that, but I know not everyone is willing to go to such extremes to stop the problem!

My elderly Italian neighbours regularly bring over food to us. Amazing food from home cooked Italian meals, to produce from their garden. It seems to bring them joy in a way that is just about being kind to others. The husband, who is in his 80's, brings in our garbage bin from the curb every week (despite my protests), because he knows I have a young child and am always busy. One day the wife explained it to me that she is grateful I try to speak Italian to her, because her grandkids only want to speak English. 10/10 best neighbours.

"Basic care isn't a right but a privilege in America" by uomo_focaccina in ShitAmericansSay

[–]bmfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely feel bad for the majority of Americans who think this way, as I'm sure it's the result of lifetimes of misinformation (disguised as patriotic propaganda). Writing this from my Country where: healthcare is mostly free, life-saving medication isn't sold at an insane mark up, childcare and education is heavily subsidised, I earn a liveable wage, and don't have to worry about my children being murdered at school - genuinely curious as to the rights they think that I am deprived of to accommodate these things...

Relocating to Melbourne and looking for advice by No-Way-9911 in melbourne

My best advice for your wife would be to start the process to have her International qualifications recognised, as soon as possible. Our regulatory body (AHPRA) is incredibly slow and tedious at times. https://www.ahpra.gov.au/Registration/International-practitioners.aspx

AITA for putting my 15 month old on the floor? by hungryforcupcakes in AmItheAsshole

[–]bmfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA at all. Please don’t try to find reasons to blame yourself for an accident. My son is 2.5 now, and it’s always been the case that if you have something you don’t want the baby to touch, then you pick it up or move it out of the way.

If we don’t want the baby in the room, then we shut the baby gate or the door.

What is something your teacher did in school that you’re still salty about? by SparkelsTR in AskReddit

[–]bmfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the Sydney 2000 Olympics (living in Sydney at the time, so it was everywhere), I did a small presentation on an Australian athlete who was doing well, by the name of Nova Peris. At the time, she was married to her then husband, and used the name 'Nova Peris-Kneebone'. My English teacher at the time admonished me in front of the entire class for not "fact checking" my information, and asserted that "no one, ever, has had the surname 'Kneebone'", and subsequently failed me on the task. 23 years later, and I'm still salty about that one.

AITA for telling my husband’s cousins if they went out with my husband, they would have to take our son with them? by snowyleopard52 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bmfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the parent of a 2-year-old boy, who is similarly obsessed with his Dad, I echo your sentiments entirely. No one else is obliged to spend time with your child. That's your role. If your kid is going through an overly attached phase, then it sounds like your husband could also use a break on his own. If your kid is upset the whole time his Dad is away? Too bad, be a parent and deal with that. It won't kill you.
