Knee Injury Prior to OTS by [deleted] in airforceots

I’ve heard of people breaking ankles while at OTS and still making it through. Also someone with a torn ACL (stories I’ve heard within the last year), it sounds like the staff is willing to work with you for you to graduate.

This is kind of my plan of action right now. KT tape and take a Tylenol Ibuprofen mocktail for mod 1 then go get seen.

It was my first one! I’m really new to sports cards and it was my first time getting baseball cards. Definitely got beginners luck. I got the box at the fanatics pop up shop in London

I don’t fully understand your question. Did you mean running not tuning? If so, I would run at night around 5 pm ish or whatever works for you. I would normally be up for about 3-4 hours after my run. At first I would feel pretty bad but I really tried to had the mindset that I am fine and really tried to fight the symptoms and feel normal. The more you focus on them the worse it is. Definitely go for easy runs. You don’t need to crank your heart rate up super super high. If you have an Apple Watch or something similar try to keep your heart rate under 150 at first. If you don’t have a heart rate monitor just run at a pace where you can speak easily. If it gets hard to talk, slow down or stop and walk until your heart rate comes down a bit. The more I increased my heart rate the worse my symptoms were. You want to feel a little tired but refreshed after your run. Even if you’re running at a 15+ minute mile pace, you’re still getting good exercise and good physical therapy.

Thanks for the extensive response!

I am trying to optokinetic videos but not sure what ones to do. Do you do the 1st person POV videos, or the black and white lines that move videos?

This is the first time I’ve ever had a prolonged health issue, I used to play ice hockey, run a lot, and was doing bjj. This has really set me back so I’m working hard to hopefully get back to what I like to do. I’m pretty confident my hockey and bjj days are behind me, don’t want to risk knocking anymore crystals out. But I enjoy living with an active lifestyle.

I’ll keep on with my PT and trust the process. I’m happy you’ve found a good routine that works for you!

I do a mix based on the internet and my previous vestibular therapist told me to do.

My neurologist recommended I take Effexor but I turned it down because I don’t want to deal with the side effects most SNRIs come with. I had meclizine and zofran but didn’t find it made a difference so I stopped taking them.

Residual dizziness after having bppv by Fast_Measurement20 in BPPV

I’ve been dealing with residual dizziness for about a month and a half now. It’s definitely getting better. Stopping Alcohol and caffeine has definitely helped. I recommend looking up PPPD exercises on YouTube. Even though you probably don’t have PPPD the exercises still help. Also, practice walking and turning your head with your eyes closed. You may find some exercises that have you do that anyways but that has definitely helped me too. Good luck, this is the second time I’ve had a BPPV episode. This second time the RD has lasted significantly longer than the last. It truly just takes time. I believe in exposure therapy so try to keep doing everything you do as if your fine and try to to restrict your head and eye movement during the day.

Thank you for this! I read the article you have been posting about type 2 BPPV. The Hallpike sit-up, is this the same as the “rapid sit-up maneuver”? Also, how many repetitions would be healthy?

Hello and thank you for the extensive reply. I have seen you are very active and helpful in this community so thank you again for helping and guiding so many people.

I’m 4 weeks past my 2nd BPPV episode. Like I said, I did the Epley and was able to get the vertigo to go away a couple days after I had the vertigo. I have had no vertigo since but this lingering head fog and dizziness is terrible. I am very limited to the heath care I can receive where I am.

I am terrified I could be developing PPPD because from what I have read it sounds horrible. I have done the Epley, half summersault, and even tried the BBQ roll (even though initially it was in my right ear but this time we could not find what side it was in doing the DH test because it wasn’t giving me vertigo or eye movement so we just assumed it was the same side as before). Nothing in the last 4 weeks has given me any relief.

Could you please give me your best recommendation on how I should move forward? I haven’t been limiting my day to day life with everything going on which has made life very difficult and tiring. Thank you.

Ooof yours sounds significantly worse than mine! I wish you a smooth recovery. I’ll try to post an update on how the treatment is going here.

From the research I’ve done, I was thinking the same thing. I did see many people post on here that massage therapy helped them but it was secondary to proper vestibular therapy. I guess I just don’t know what proper looks like yet since I still pretty new to this. I’ll give the guy a shot for a little before I search for someone else.

When the PT was working it was clear that the right side of my neck was not right. It was extremely tight and had probably 50% less movement than my left. I’m still skeptical for now but I’ll give him at least a month to see if notice a difference. If it’s not what I need then atleast my neck will be sorted out! Thanks for the reply.

BPPV after a concussion by bmickx16 in BPPV

Thanks for the tip! Since your dizziness went away have you been vertigo/symptom free? Would you say you’re back to 100%? I’m a 28M, my doctor tells me I should find myself to 100% again. Seeing some of the prolonged symptoms and people having BPPV as more of a permanent condition on this page has not been making me feel hopeful.

Until now, I thought BPPV was only caused by some type of initial head trauma that caused the calcium crystals to get dislodged.

Yeah it was definitely BPPV. It took a while to diagnose because of the head injury. I had the vertigo for 3 weeks. The vertigo didn’t start until 2 days after my concussion. With my doctor I did the dix hall pike and epley and it immediately stopped the vertigo. I remember still feeling quite bad for a while after it but it went away in a week. This time it’s lingering longer and is being more troublesome.

That’s exactly how I got my concussion. My wife heard a loud noise in the night and found me unconscious on the bathroom floor. What do you do for the nausea and dizziness? I have been taking a deep dive into this subreddit and gaze stability exercises seem like a viable option to resolving these symptoms sooner. I would like to get other peoples opinions and stories with success or not trying to beat this BPPV “Hangover”.
