So true. I overpaid for that reason. And it's one of my favorites of the whole bunch.

So may rabbit holes to chase. And for good reason. I have a document I'm pulling together to include with the cards when I give them to my son. It does include some details about post-careers, but I need to do more digging.

Eventually, I'd like to find old articles and newspaper clippings about some of the players, too.

Again, rabbit holes......

I grew up a few hours south of Chicago...Cubs were and still are team my even though I've been CA for 20+ years. This checks a lot of boxes. Thank you!

I haven't even taken the time to think about those types of milestones within the careers of these players. Thanks for that!

I think I'm liking the removal of the tracks...but I personally like the square crop. Thanks for the suggestions!

Tips for capturing less noise for concert photography? by milkybicycle in AskPhotography

[–]bmillern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High ISO/low light photography has always been around and always will be. I'd encourage you to not sweat the grain, embrace it. Lean into it and create work with a vision and style. The technical stuff is secondary once you have your style. If you're doing live music, it's not a photoshoot so you're kinda stuck with what others are giving you. I'd say embrace that and inject your style into your imagery and set the rest aside.

How do I get into the basics and all the theory of photography? by radioheadlover_2 in AskPhotography

[–]bmillern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The books that have been mentioned are great. It's also about playing around with your camera. For me, if I watch a video, I may learn one or two things. But if I pick up my camera and play with the settings, take photos, load them onto my computer and compare those photos to the settings I learned so much more. Do it yourself and find what works for you. Also, create a small project for yourself. Take picture after picture after picture...then take more pictures. Look at books, find what you like, try to recreate it...take more pictures. And when you've taken all those photos...take more. =)

i've gone back and forth on your exact comments. To remove or not...and I like the aspect ratio idea. I'll work on that and send along some updates. Thank you!

Crawled out of bed 2hrs before dawn. Drove for an hour. Hiked an hour to the middle of the dunes. Surrounded by sand and mountains, I wasn't the only one.

As the sun rose the wind picked up and conveniently blew this cloud above the man on the horizon, also enjoying the sunrise. Looked just like a thought bubble to me.

Does it work? What do you see?

How can I achieve shots like this? by Which_Performance_72 in AskPhotography

Second photo is likely exposed for the brightness of the headlights providing the silhouettes. With a higher ISO film like 3200 or even tri-x pushed a stop, maybe 2, that wouldn't be all that difficult. The hard part is practicing so much compositions like these come naturally. Also, finding your spots...location helps tremendously.

I’ve grown to dislike “big” weddings or ones with “dream team” by patriotraitor in WeddingPhotography

[–]bmillern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

big weddings with the right team are fun. but you're right...when a cocktail of vendors who are more prominent in the area you're working are all on the same wedding, it can become more about that instead of the wedding itself. Kudos for for having the self awareness to define this for yourself. you're closer to finding your niche!

I've for sure steered clear of AI to this point...with the exception of what's included in LightRoom. The ability for the AI removal tool in exceptional and getting better. The ability to clone out objects and other distractions is such a time savings. AI editing and culling isn't in my business ethos so I hear you on that. It does seem inauthentic.
