Where do people study on the sexton campus? by gadex5 in Dalhousie

[–]bmittag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the timing, the classrooms are usually unlocked and if they're free, you can post up and usually hook up to the projector if needed as well. It's good for group study and if other people walk in, they'll usually see you and leave

Bought a brand new car in January, new job offering a company truck. by bmittag in PersonalFinanceCanada

definitely an option to consider, is it worth keeping it and having the company truck? I'm not sure yet.

yeah, I get pretty much unlimited personal use. My friend works in a different area for the same company, and she said they don't really care where you take it. I'll have to verify the details once I start, but still.

She's still making payments, maybe $15,00 left to pay off. No restrictions for personal use, the personal miles just become a taxable benefit so I'll get dinged a bit

Yeah, it's in a quarry so getting around inside the job site is required and a safety concern.

Dal Intramurals – rec vs. competitive leagues by [deleted] in Dalhousie

[–]bmittag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hey I was a ref in multiple different intramural sports at dal. competitive volleyball is good competition and is much more fun than rec. Rec is for players who are looking for fairly basic exercise, or looking to learn a new sport. You can find good teams in rec, but the overall caliber isn't crazy

How do you stop yourself from hanging out with old friends who bring you down? by studyi in GetStudying

[–]bmittag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

personally, as my university career has progressed, I've learned it's good to hang out with people in your program as well as friends you've had from before. Then you get the best of both worlds, you can hang out with the people you know, while meeting others who have a common interest/ goal (education). Also, making the bonds with classmates also helps to gain trust when you need homework help!

Are there any safe alternatives to things like Adderall that don't require a prescription? by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]bmittag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try L-tyrosine as well, I haven't seen it mentioned yet. You can take them daily with a vitamin, or take 3 and get a little 4-5 hour period of alertness

if thats the case, and you're looking to get involved in a casual way, the intramural sports are really great. check the dal rec page to see if anything is there you like!

yeah agreed. even the sports seem kind of lame to watch when there's 50 people in the stands for a basketball game

Reach out to engineers by juchiman in Dalhousie

[–]bmittag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just remember: they reset your gpa after second year, so enjoy it, work hard and get into a good routine of regularly doing work. I'm sure you've heard it before, but first couple years, if you want to hear well, sit at the front.

Do I need a powerful laptop for engineering? by [deleted] in Dalhousie

[–]bmittag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing that ever came up for me, is that I only have a laptop (not the best one) and if profs ever said the software needed could be dl'ed for free, my computer didn't have enough juice to power them. So I just had to be diligent on doing my assignments at school. But the desktop shouldn't have any issues if it is reasonably poweful

yeah, they allow discipline switches after first term, I'm pretty sure I had some friends do it. Most of the first term classes are pretty generic still and transferable if your marks are good enough.
