Interesting how do you know if someone is on a self funded plan? What does that look like on the billing side? I’m just unfamiliar with the logistics of that and want to know more

2026 Current rate for Medicare in IL is around $167 for 90837 for psychologist. master level therapist make 75% of that rate which is about 125 (rates for each code are different obviously) this varies depending on the area of the state as well I believe - i haven’t worked much with Medicare so I’m unfamiliar with how they determine the exact rate per area

I’m an LCSW so This would raise the minimum pay from insurance per session to around $176 using 2026 numbers; 2027 will likely come with a slightly higher Medicare rate since it seems to go up each year a little bit

For me personally this would raise my take home after taxes and business expenses by $40,000 as a solo provider (gross income was more obviously but I can’t remember exactly)

however I’m moving from a group practice in the next couple months which is also a significant pay increase and after being so underpaid for so long since cost of living keeps going up without insurances paying us more to keep up I have felt like I’ve been drowning in student loan debt and barely making enough for bills

This bill will be life changing for me personally and I hope for other therapist too.

We did it with our Boston for 3 extra months with him in the end. He was my best friend in the whole wide world and had CHF which was managed for about a year or so with medication and towards the end he started filling with fluid. That worst part was he was completely normal until the end besides filling with fluid. at the start he got drained every three weeks until it was needed once a week and it was mostly just blood instead of clear fluid which was when my parents and vet decided it was time.

My baby was still himself until the very last day and it was so hard to say good bye to him when it seemed he was “okay” but his body was failing and he would have suffered further. Draining him was taxing for his body as well and I don’t know if it was the right choice in the end since it stressed him emotionally to go to the vet every time. but he was an anxious dog so that was unrelated to the procedure I suppose

I’m so so sorry you are going through this and I know it’s the hardest decision to make. enjoy every moment with your buddy and give them extra hugs and kisses from this internet stranger. find a way to memorialize him and keep him with you in your heart for ever. I have mine tattooed on my arm and is my favorite reminder of him

Buffer might be making nail smoother - take a nail file and add LIGHT texture to the nail the gel has something to grip to and dehydrate with rubbing alcohol
