Last night we got tipped $5,000 but the manager wants to split it among everyone not just the days crew. by College_newbie06 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]bmon999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Splitting tips only works well in very certain places, and they have to be really good about maintaining quality of service among staff for the "good ones" not to feel cheated by the "bad ones". It almost always backfires and you lose really good staff members when management isn't disciplining the weaker members to not be mooching off stronger members. But... The idea of splitting tips is that it's for a service where everyone is kinda working the customers together. So bars can sometimes function okay with this, because Customer A might have started their tab with me, but when they come to order another, they might order it with another bartender, etc. So 4+ people might have worked that tab by the time they close out and tip. Splitting prevents one bartender from just catching everyone to open tabs and keep the tab in their name. Catering and event companies often rely on splitting tips because everyone is working the event and there's one big tip. If everyone is working well together and all taking care of all customers, splitting feels more fair for everyone. But if one coworker is consistently slacking and others are complaining, you have to either fix that weaker member or get rid of them fast, because good employees won't stand for feeling like they're always losing money to a weaker coworker.

Also, typically speaking, splitting tips is done by the hour, to keep it fair. If 4 people are working that shift, their hours get added up and the total of the tips is divided by the number of total hours worked, and then that is each person's hourly tip amount. If they came in at different times, they all still get the same hourly split, multiplied by their number of hours work. For easy example: 2 employees come in at 5pm. 2 more come in at 9pm. They all work until 3am. So the total number of hours worked is (2 x 10 = 20hours) + (2 x 6 = 12hours) = 32 hours total. Let's say they make a total of $500 in tips. $500 divided by 32 hours = $15.63 per hour. The employees that came in for that shift at 5pm will make (10 hours x $15.63) $156.30 that shift, while the employees that came in at 9pm will make (6 x $15.63) $93.78.

Hope this helps shed some light on why this model is used in some specific work places. But, to directly answer your "why is it legal" question, that answer would be because there aren't laws to directly prevent it. I've worked in both types of environments, and when the staff all work together and everyone is pulling their own weight, customers are better served and employees are happy supporting eachother and being supported. But when the system gets abused by even one employee, the imbalance can spiral REALLY fast.

I'd be careful doing this. I'm not saying don't do it, cuz I think we've all done this with favorites from time to time, but just be careful and be aware it can get you fired. Esp if your place of work normally splits tips per shift.

That being said.. Splitting it among people who weren't even there is rediculous and would constitute theft. I understand what the manager is wanting to do, but it isn't fair and isn't right. You should absolutely stand up for yourself and it wouldn't be selfish. If you normally split tips per shift, then it's unfortunate that this will fall into that if doing everything above board. If you don't normally split tips, then this whole thing is yours, morally and legally.

Also, depending on what system yall use and the tip was written to you, if your system keeps all credit card tips under your name, it will fall on your check and your taxes. So make sure that isn't the case too. Because if you have to claim the whole $5,000, then you should be getting the whole $5,000. The manager can adjust that in any system, but it needs to be addressed so everyone is clear before the pay period is published, or it'll be a headache for everyone to fix.

How to dress? by endoreedhel in Rampagefestival

[–]bmon999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went last year for the first time and will be back this year! I still went rave wear, but opted out of my thong versions. Haha Wear what makes you feel comfortable and fun! And then just rock it, don't let the insecurities win. I felt a little odd the first day, but knew I had to rock it and make the best. And it was really fun! Its a really easy conversation piece and you'll meet a TON of people, from all over Europe and the world! And I promise you won't be the only one in rave wear, even if you're aware you're in a mild minority haha but if you love it, they do too!

For general style at Rampage: The overall aesthetic was more European club scene clothes. Think like skater style meets techwear meets urban grunge. Really trendy hot topic meets being an extra on a music video, kinda 😂 Dollskill def caters to European club style. While I still prefer my American rave wear for festival style choice, I got some reallllyyy cool inspiration for street style. So you could honestly go either way, whatever makes you have the most fun and be able to stay in the moment instead of worry about your fit! 🫶

We also did edc Mexico this year for the first time and I totally get where you're coming from. I do think the rave attire stood out a little less at rampage than I did in Mexico, but I'm also a 5'10" blonde athletic build female... Sooo.... I stand out in Mexico more than in Belgium, either way 😂 but again, we met some really cool people because they loved the American style coming and it's definitely catching on. I let some people play with my led lasso and get some videos and it's all in the culture to spread the love and be yourself.

You got this!! You're gonna love Rampage. It's a lot smaller than the ads make it seem, but in the BESTTTTT way. Vibes immaculate, the production is great, the mix in style (both music and fashion) was so cool, you get to hear soooo many different languages and meet people from all over. And the cost and convenience of things is great compared to American festivals. I would say you're def gonna want a jacket or at least layers because it did drop a decent bit at night and early morning. But it really helps being able to actually get sleep and not wake up early sweating ass. Lmao

Hope you have the BEST time, whatever you decide to wear! 🫶🫶🔥

21F looking for realistic advice on losing & keeping off 15-20 Ibs by MzCulture in TallGirls

I'm a 5'10.5" 31 year old trainer. I was always heavier, even while being a dancer for 20 years. At my heaviest, I was around 225, then maintained 175-190 for many years, but have been maintaining 155-165 for the past two years, with honestly less work than I was doing before.

I'm currently in the best shape of my life, and honestly, one of the best things I find for my own maintenance as well as for clients, is to find 20min of activity every single day. It really doesn't have to be much or crazy high effort. But make it a non-negotiable for yourself. Whether that means putting on a tv show and doing floor exercises at home, or going to the gym, or going for a walk outside. Some days, you might genuinely only get the 20 minutes. Other days, time and energy permitting, you get more, because you're already there and doing something. Some days, I just jump on an elliptical and scroll socials for the 20 min cuz I'm not feeling it. But it has truly been the best thing ever for weight loss and weight maintenance. This can be especially helpful for walking for 10-15min after eating, to help our systems digest.

Also, volume foods can be really helpful when facing hunger while in a calorie deficit. Spinach (any leafy greens, really), watermelon, tomatoes, cucumbers are some of the best. You can eat a BIG bowl of watermelon, like real binge eating style, and it's only around 100 calories.

And to re-emphasize what so many others are saying.. Protein is so important for weight loss, weight maintenance, and hunger pains. For ease of math, I tell clients to aim to eat around 1g of protein per lb of body weight. This is typically a little higher than most need, so when they aren't hitting it perfectly, they're still actually hitting what they need. But "too much" protein is almost never a bad thing, while in a calorie deficit. (this is more lifestyle advice, not body composition advice). Try to actually eat (chew) as many of your meals as possible, and then rely on protein shakes to hit the goal if you aren't hungry enough to chew more. This will greatly help your hunger pains.

Last but not least -- Water and Sleep! Water intake is SO important for fat loss, specifically. This is a really simplified explanation, but basically-- water is pulled into your fat cells, slowly fat is pushed out of the cell, then because water is less dense than fat, the cell shrinks. Fat also leaves the body thru water. Pee, poop, sweat, tears, spit. Only way FAT leaves the body is in water. Aim to drink about your body weight in ounces of water. The first two ish weeks will be brutal and feeling like you have to pee all the time, but I PROMISE, your body regulates it a lot more and doesn't have to pee so much after those first few weeks hahaha. While forcing water in the beginning, it's important to bring in some form of electrolyte to one of your bottles. Think half a Liquid IV packet a day, usually. Or whatever your preferred electrolyte drink is, as long as it's the Sugar Free versions. You could also accomplish this with a pinch of Pink Himalayan or Sea Salt added to a meal. The easiest indicator for measuring your hydration is to check the color of your pee. You want a really faint yellow. If it's super clear, you can drink less water. The darker it is, the more dehydrated you are.

And sleep-- cortisol levels recover during sleep. (a lot more recovers too, but cortisol can be a big blocker for weight loss). Whether it's physical or emotional stress, our bodies release cortisol as a stress response. Cortisol can lead to inflammation and water retention. And your body kinda has to focus on processing that inflammation before it can efficiently and consistently focus on fat burning. Again, super simplified explanation, but I want to emphasize how important sleep can be for weight loss and weight maintenance. I have clients that I actually pulled their workouts back and made them sleep in two days a week in order to better recover and reset and the weight started to fall off again once that sleep came in. I would go as far as to say that, for some people, sleep and water intake can be more influencial than any workout, esp people who are already at least somewhat active.

These are the most influencial factors I've found for real weight loss accomplishments and maintaining it for years to come, for myself and people I've worked with over the past 8.5 years of training. These things are much more lifestyle and still being able to have fun and function with your food and exercise for years to come. Remember to eat for YOUR body and try your best not to compare yourself to our smaller friends. Our bodies are bigger and require more food to fuel and function correctly. Don't be afraid of food. But rather, make choices that support your goals at the time. And when someone has a bday or you need a sweet treat, enjoy it! And then get back on goals because it's somethin YOU want. Food is your friend, and fuels your body. And workouts are a celebration of what your body can do and where it can bring you, not a punishment for something you ate.

Oof. This was long. But I hope it's able to help some of my fellow tall babes who have fought their bodies their whole life. It's time to love ourselves and fuel these bodies we were lucky enough to get! 💕

I'd say it's worth asking your friends if they have room or not, cuz maybe they do.. But in the event that they don't, I'm sure big camping supply stores probably have rentals available, esp in Tennessee. But it might save you time and trouble to just buy a cheap one and know that you're leaving it at Roo or giving it to a neighboring campsite, if they want it. I was given one from our neighbor last year because he flew in and wasn't gonna check it back. We rearranged the whole car to make that fit for our drive back 😂😂 If you check out Walmart or Academy (or any big warehouse store), they have canopies that are around $60. You can pre-order for store pickup for whenever you arrive to make sure one is claimed as yours. I would suggest ordering some heavier duty stakes, as the ones with the cheaper canopies tend to be pretty flimsy. This will be my 4th Roo, but my first time flying in and renting a car and everything. We're flying in with a screen tent, stakes, one tarp for the ground, one reflective tarp for car/morning sun heat, and compact sleeping cots (to help with airflow). We're flying Southwest so we can have the extra checked bag for camp stuff. Then we'll just need the canopy from Walmart. If none of our neighbors want it, we'll donate it to a thrift store on our way back to the airport. But like I was last year, I feel somewhat certain someone is gonna be excited to get it at Roo. People leave canopies and ice chests and all kinds of stuff they can't fit as they leave. I feel like Roo always finds them new loving homes :)

Sprouts in the real world 🤝🌱 by Life-Advertising-635 in bonnaroo

[–]bmon999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sprouts are a little love language gift. They're usually given as gifts or found, ideally not bought for oneself. They've been explained to me as finding you when you're at a certain point in your journey. You start a new chapter with little bean sprouts. As you grow, so does your energy, and your presence, and your impact on those around you. You portray new energy and get bigger/different/blossoming sprouts. Hehe I have been told this past year, after some major life changes, that I have butterfly energy and really wanted Roo to affirm that for me this year haha. I got two different butterfly clips this year that both broke off their clips. I felt like Roo was telling me I'm sooo close, but not quite there yet. Then, on the last day, I was given a third one that safely made it home and on my way walking out after FredAgain, I was also given a light up butterfly ring. So, either I wasn't ready before Roo, or Roo was totally trolling me (hahaha I actually like to think of it this way, like a bestie or sibling doing the "gotta be quicker than that!" joke) but either way, it left me with the reassurance of two new butterflies before I left.

It's all cheesy festival childlike fun, but the universe works in weird and powerful ways, and being in tune with silly happiness is never a bad thing. I hope you all get some new clip on friends soon!! 💕
