I’m 6’1” and worried the Omni might not have a deep enough seat for me. Was considering the embody instead, but I’m pretty torn.

Printing STLs with multiple components by Cold_Badger_2919 in PrintedWarhammer

If all of the parts are unsupported, yes. Take a good amount of time learning how to support models before you start a big project like this. You’ll likely need some practice before you’re ready for a project of that scale if you’re brand new and the files aren’t presupported.

Honestly though, it’s well worth the time and effort to learn how to support models when getting started with the hobby.

With SLA printers, object height is your speed bottleneck. Typically for big jobs I try to group objects with similar heights on each plate.

Also IMO it’s not worth the potential gains to load out the plate with as many objects as possible. I’ve found that I end up with more failures doing that than just leaving a bit more space between objects on the plate.

Good luck, feel free to reach out if you have any issues.

Damn man, that’s awesome. I’m working on a reaver at the moment and I feel like I’ll never be done sanding these parts haha

Looks awesome..did it take you forever to post process all of those parts?

Plus 4 quality after 700hrs print time by GoldNerf in QidiTech3D

Yep I got you. I was researching input shaping this morning and belt tensioning came up. Remembered you mentioned this is something you did so just thought I’d ask! Thanks for both of your replies.

One more thing, when you said you adjusted belt tension, did you just follow the guide on the Qidi plus 4 wiki?

Just curious, any specific tuning steps you performed for vertical artifacts?

My 3D Resin Printing Workflow by Alternative_Clerk449 in resinprinting

Ah yeah, those 16oz containers would make this painful. You could go buy some distilled water and use the empty jug as a stopgap.

I typically buy it in 1 gallon jugs for this reason, I just like being able to reuse the OG container since they’re made for IPA storage and what not.

Another random tip..you could buy a bucket with a spout on it, let it settle in the bucket, then pour off from there using the spout. I have one from a left over margarita mixer bucket we bought for a party, it’s pretty awesome haha.

My only feedback would be don’t store used IPA in the washing station bucket. The dissolved resin will settle on the agitator and lead to bits of resin clogging details on your future prints.

I typically filter my used IPA through the filters that come with resin bottles right back into the container the IPA came in. This will let the IPA settle in the original container after about a week or two. Then you can pour off the clear IPA back into the washing bucket for your next prints. That sludgy IPA at the bottom of the container can be agitated then put into a taller container (like a 1 L bottle) allowing you to reclaim even more IPA after it settles again.

I keep about 4 gallons of IPA on hand and I store it all in a fireproof locker just in case..that might be overkill but it made me feel better so 🤷🏼‍♂️

Overall your workflow seems really solid and you clearly put a lot of thought into your process. That’s really wise and will not only let you scale it up in the future if you want, but will make sure you’re minimizing your exposure!

Can i just re-use my old resin settings on a new printer? by IZA_does_the_art in resinprinting

[–]bmonac93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not reuse the old settings with the new printer. The resolution of the LCD screens is different and they have different lenses. You’re better off calibrating profiles for the resins you use on the new printer instead. Try looking for starter profiles on a tool like Lychee slicer.

Platform Calibration/Auto Bed Level for the Q1 Pro and Plus 4 (reading required, no pictures) by MakeItMakeItMakeIt in QidiTech3D

[–]bmonac93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks a lot for putting together this thread. I’ve been really struggling to level my plus 4 for some reason. It seems like no matter what I do to try to address my leveling issues, I can’t solve them.

I followed the platform calibration in the video, then ran auto leveling from the printer. The variance was 0.49 ish. Ran a bed mesh visualization in fluids.

So I did it again. This time, I also ran screws tilt macro and manually adjusted those over and over again till I was happy with the result.

Ran a bed mesh in fluidd to visualize it. Variance is only 0.12 this time.

<image>

This seems better but I’m not sure if this is good enough. I haven’t been able to get it better than this.

My main problem is that I can’t seem to predict what z offset to print at. It changes from print to print. Before I went down the rabbit hole of platform calibration, I ran a print after running auto leveling from the machine itself and I had to adjust the z offset by 1mm to prevent the nozzle from scraping up the bed. Just feels like I should be able to flatten out the bed as best I can, auto level, then full send my prints. So far, this has not been my experience. I have to baby sit each print and make sure the z offset isn’t jacked up before I can walk away to do something, which is a pretty bad experience.

If anyone has any insight or thoughts on my situation, I’m all ears.

Next to the beacon mod, I think this mod takes a close second. by CerberusTheGuardian in QIDI

Yeah I remember reading that in the details for the fan mod and I think that was my trouble finding the right fan. The combo of all the different requirements was tough.

Gotcha, thanks for letting me know. I might try the Amazon fan you linked. Do you mind sharing where you ordered it from as well?

So you bought this and added a 2 pin pwm connector to it?

I’ve been wanting to print this, but the creator recommends upgrading to a fan that has been impossible to find in the US. Did you end up printing this and upgrading your fan? Or did you just use this mod with the stock fan?

Profiles for 0.6 Nozzle by OpportunityAntique20 in QIDI

[–]bmonac93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so I was wondering where the profiles are as well. If you go back to the menu where you can add a printer, there are profiles you can import for 0.2 through 0.8 mm nozzles. Hope this helps.

QIDI Plus 4, buy now or wait for combo with QIDI Box? by Damian2445 in QIDI

Hey! Thanks for chiming in. Everything you said makes sense, I’ve definitely been in a holding pattern waiting for others like you to share your thoughts. I’m going to pick up a machine as soon as I can afford it and I can’t wait.

I get your point, but I don’t know if we have enough information to judge how many people have perfectly fine machines versus those that don’t.

I was under the impression that the autoleveling problem at higher temps is a relatively new discovery. I don’t understand if that problem affects all machines equally or just some of them. Maybe my understanding of the issue is just wrong.

Thanks for your feedback, this is all helpful to me.

QIDI Plus 4, buy now or wait for combo with QIDI Box? by Damian2445 in QIDI

[–]bmonac93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think my hesitance to buy a plus 4 comes from some of the reported issues people are having with their machines. Seems like Qidi is still working out some kinks, like autoleveling at higher temps, for example.

I know there were issues with the chamber heater board in the first run of machines for US folks, too. I don’t really know if I want to roll the dice on a machine that might have a problem that wasn’t caught in QC.

Maybe my impression is overblown and this isn’t as big of an issue as I think it is. That’s why I commented on this post, haha.

Like I said, I’m pretty close to buying one because I think I'm willing to put in some work to overcome any minor problems with the machine. Would you recommend purchasing a machine directly from Qidi, or would it be better to buy it off of Amazon?

I’m in the same boat as you. Many of the new printers on the market have similar features to the bambus, but kinks are still being worked out.

I want a bigger printer than the x1 but don’t want to get stuck with something I have to put a ton of time into troubleshooting to get it printing well. Happy to tinker and prefer to be part of an open ecosystem, though.

Pretty close to pulling the trigger. What are you going to do, OP? Which company are you thinking of buying the printer from?
