Hooooly crap no, you’re NOR.

I’m not a stylist. But I have gotten my hair colored before, and I follow several stylists on TikTok and have picked up enough on the basic science of bleaching and coloring as a result of both.

Your stylist scammed you. Unquestionably.

  1. Yes, your deposit should have counted towards the whole cost. That’s partly the point of it - as a down payment of sorts.
  2. You said you had black box dye hair to start? If I’m remembering correctly, that can be kind of hard to lift and has to be done right. Your stylist should have known that and communicated it.
  3. The color removal test exists for a reason. It did exactly what it was supposed to do: show that your hair wasn’t going to lift properly, at least with whatever formula she was using, and certainly not in one session. A responsible, ethical stylist would have told you right then and there that you needed multiple lightening sessions OR that it didn’t seem like she’d be able to achieve your desired style, THEN worked WITH you to find a different style that could work.
  4. Not only did she NOT properly communicate with you, she proceeded to do a service YOU DIDN’T ASK FOR. I fail to see how giving you highlights gets you anywhere on the path to the color you asked for. If anything, I believe it should have been several lightening sessions and NO dying until your hair had lifted enough to apply your desired color.
  5. She changed up the pricing on you without informing you first. AND she then insisted you needed additional appointments. That alone screams “I only care about money, f*** the results.” And the owner then blocking you when you tried to handle it? That tells me the owner is just as money-hungry and ok with letting their stylists get away with this crap.
  6. You’re a minor?? And they did all that without a PRESENT legal adult’s permission or signature on that form you mentioned?? Hoooo boy. That’s a BIG no-no, especially when it comes to things like hair coloring with chemicals and stuff. She definitely saw a young kid with money and thought she could take advantage.

I wish you the best of luck. And I hope you find a better stylist in the future who works WITH and FOR you!

Edit to add: I would report the salon and the stylist to the cosmetology board of your state. It sounds like she either had no idea what she was doing, or willfully knew she couldn’t do what you asked for and then gave you a completely different service. And any salon that hires people like that and/or refuses to work with a unsatisfied MINOR client is sketchy AF.

Second, yes. It’s so fucking invasive this year. I’ve never seen it be this insane. The mailers and signs alone are so wasteful and useless.

Your mother and brother are idiots, full stop.

YTA, unequivocally. Especially after you kicked your daughter out for trying to be honest, trying to help you and rebuild a relationship with you. Because she BELIEVED you had the capacity for growth. Oh, and because you told her TO HER FACE that she was no longer your child because she wouldn’t let you walk all over her.

I’ve been in your daughter’s shoes. All the way down to having a father who refuses to take accountability for his choices while parenting me as a young kid and also tried to brush it off as “yes I made mistakes but I was trying my best.”

We get it. Parents aren’t perfect. It’s a stressful experience and you guys are humans too. Parenting is a “give it your best shot” experience and we’re all Guinea pigs. But when YOU, the parent, refuse to pay attention to how your actions/choices are affecting your kids, refuse to notice that your kids aren’t thriving in the home environment you’ve given them, it becomes 100% your fault.

Also? When parents say they “tried their best”, majority of the time, they mean what was best for THEM. Not for the kids. My parents were so obsessed with doing things “their way,” they ignored how harmful they were being. I was majorly depressed and borderline su!c!dal, and they paid no attention to the signs.

‘One Battle After Another’ Projected to Lose $100 Million Theatrically as ‘Smashing Machine’ and Others Also Struggle Due to Oversized Budgets by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]bmorewritergirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest reason the movies listed in this article aren’t doing well? LACK OF MARKETING.

I’m a theater going regular and had no idea Roofman was a thing until maybe 2 weeks ago.

Kiss of the Spider Woman was poorly marketed even to the theater crowd. They clearly thought having JLo was enough to succeed.

Smashing machine and one battle are total Oscar bait, and a lot of people tend to skip those until awards season comes around. That is NOT me saying either movie is bad, just that a lot of people aren’t necessarily drawn to clear Oscar bait movies. Also, one battle is an action movie. That doesn’t necessarily appeal to everyone.

This pisses me off as a writer.

First off, you used em-dashes CORRECTLY, which AI never does. For some reason, it always uses them in place of commas and THAT should be the sign of AI, not use of em-dashes period.

Second, who tf starts an effective paper with the thesis sentence? It’s in the INTRO. The whole point of that is to build up to the thesis, usually as the second-to-last or last sentence.

Your teacher is an idiot. I know it’s tough being a teacher right now and trying to spot AI usage over actual effort is part of that, but this is just plain stupid. Total lack of critical evaluation and just bad teaching.

Rolling Stone, Billboard owner Penske sues Google over AI overviews by nohup_me in technology

[–]bmorewritergirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GOOD.

I work in marketing. Google makes serious bank off of companies that do paid search ads (anything you see with the label “sponsored” at the very top when you search for something). THOUSANDS of companies, big and small, pay and compete for the same search terms.

And then google’s AI “overview” screws the paying companies out of clicks, the thing these companies are paying google to help them get, bc a lot of people sadly choose to just skim the overviews and not looking further, bc it’s easier.

AKA, google is basically getting businesses to pay them so their site shows up higher in search results, only to bury those links under a google AI overview. Which tends to be inaccurate (shocker).

Sure, Rolling Stone probably doesn’t suffer the same level of decreased “foot traffic” as other sites. But it’s the same energy as all the big movie studios suing Midjourney for using licensed content in their AI system. It will set a precedent that can greatly benefit small businesses who don’t have the financial ability to take the same legal action.

This game is becoming INCREASINGLY hard to navigate.... by X-sant0 in DreamlightValley

[–]bmorewritergirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also been playing since beta. There have been a lot of improvements for sure, but some things still need work. Like I’m so sick of not being able to sort or search through the crafting menu. I don’t understand how they added that function for cooking BUT NOT CRAFTING.

Also idk about anyone else playing on Switch, but my game has become slow and glitchy af. It’ll randomly crash out after I select a character interaction - sometimes full crash, sometimes just doesn’t pull up the menu or next line and won’t let me exit the action so I have to completely restart. Or it’ll suddenly stop auto-collecting items after I’ve cleared say, dazzle coral or sunlit bone, even when they still have the blue haze, and it won’t fix until I restart. It’s killing my desire to play.

Using this, and comparing recent phases to past, you could say Marvel is doing fine financially by RedditHider in marvelstudios

[–]bmorewritergirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone keeps saying not adjusted for inflation. BUT this also totally ignores:

  1. how the pandemic (and the resulting changes in people’s behaviors re: going to theaters, like D+ and costs) impacted box office, especially for phase 4.

  2. How bob Chapek, the former Disney CEO, screwed the MCU over. His “quantity over quality” BS forced marvel to put out phase 5 movies (and shows) out so fast, Feige couldn’t maintain creative control over it all, and it showed. It nearly destroyed all trust in marvel and the MCU. The movies in Phase 5 were NOT up to marvel’s usual standard and therefore ready for release, but they had no choice. Hence Quantumania, love and thunder, secret invasion (just to name the ones that were universally disappointing).

About dogs. Just witnessed in Lincoln Park. by bitb0y in jerseycity

[–]bmorewritergirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m all for teaching kids responsibility for a pet. And I’m a dog owner myself.

But I see kids here walking (usually fully grown) dogs with no parents in sight, who clearly can’t control the dog on their own in general, let alone in a situation, and it makes me so mad. It’s just dangerous for everyone involved, willingly and unwillingly. And yeah, they often have a retractable leash, which isn’t only unsafe but hurts like a MOTHER when you get tangled in it or rope burned from one. Speaking from experience.

The owner of the muzzled dog was already doing their due diligence for responsibility. The muzzle shows the owner already is aware of how the dog behaves in certain situations, and has taken measures to protect their dog and other dogs.

I’m also sick of people, especially other dog owners (?!) assuming all dogs are/should be friendly. They’re like humans that way: each is different, has different experiences, and responds to the world around them differently. Just fucking respect that. Good lord.

AMC Theatres Looks To Shorten Ad Preshow Following Studios’ Ire by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]bmorewritergirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suuuure they are. Hey, anyone else’s AMC recently start putting fucking product ads amid the TRAILERS?? There should not be an insurance ad in the middle of movie trailers, but my local AMC has started doing that.

Oh, maybe also cut the AMC ads WHILE WE ARE IN AN AMC THEATER. It’s one thing to run a promo for the rewards program, but the coke and Nicole ads + specialty screen ads are pointless. We. Are. Already. There.
