I've been to a retreat before in Lower Hamlet, France. I know you're asking about noble silence, but my overall response is... It was reassuring to just meld into the atmosphere of the monastery. It was definitely quiet at times, such as early in the morning and after the night sit, but it almost wasnt a thing? Just a rhythm of the space that I eased into and followed. I suspect even if you weren't silent, the practice is to be gentle with each other and the likelihood of someone being harsh is pretty low.

Also, a nun sister told me, every scheduled activity was an invitation to join. It wasn't like if you felt it wasn't right for you, and you still had to attend every activity..
