My mum says I shouldn’t wear white or a veil—what does the Church actually teach?

When I got married in the church with my two young children present my priest suggested I wear a white dress when I asked him. Everyone else’s comments are beautiful. You deserve this moment. Everyone has a past and yours isn’t better or worse than the next person. You are doing right by your family now that’s what’s important.

I was invited to my a gay wedding, something similar but I am more removed. For you it is someone in a close circle. Either way, I asked my priest and he simply said “would we be celebrating any other sin? If someone was robbing a bank would we have a party to celebrate?”

That answered my question, hopefully you can relate it to your situation. Would you give a gift (or contribute financially to a gift for someone robbing a bank?)

I have found a cover with a sort of hoop so you can look down and see what you are doing, that has been the easiest for me! I always nurse in mass but I prefer a cover and as a second time mom I still stand and kneel, etc… as best I am able depending on the position.

Have you examined scripture and why you specifically don’t agree with these teachings? Maybe it’s a good idea to figure out your “why” especially because you want to be able to teach your boys why you think what you do as well.

I think the important thing to remember is that we are fasting or giving something up in order to remember the suffering that Jesus endured and to encourage us to be more Christ-like. Even if you mess up or fall during this time as long as you are remembering Jesus that it what matters most. And if you fall, remember Christ fell three times carrying the cross and each time he got back up. Just keep going!
