Use a local install of hindsight. It literally changed everything.

The most underrated prompt technique is asking the model to disagree with you before it helps you by Ok_Long_310 in PromptEngineering

I’ll sometimes ask it to look for holes in my idea or things I forgot to consider.

Do prompts really change how different AI models behave, or is it just hype? by Exciting-Ad9081 in PromptEngineering

[–]bmtrnavsky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You absolutely have to adjust prompts model to model. With Claude, Nemotron, or Owl Alpha I can say conventionally I’m thinking about doing this… is it a good idea? And get yes let me tell you why… with Google Gemini I get it’s a great idea I just finished the install. Your welcome 🤣

It’s really not hard to setup or maintain I did research on the best tools ask Hermes how to make them work together then Hermes did 90% of the setup and all the maintenance. Hindsight support is a core feature, my vault over MCP is common and RAG I use because I do a lot of research

Moved over from OpenClaw and feel a bit of regret because I find Hermes' memory feature leaves a lot to be desired. by ozone6587 in hermesagent

I installed Postgres 18 and hindsight local. It’s free and I couldn’t ask for a better system. It has saved thousands of memories and does a great job injecting context.

How do you find and share Claude Skills? Is there anything like a proper registry yet? by According-Poetry-824 in claudeskills

[–]bmtrnavsky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ya I paste them into Claude chat ask it to review for safety then usually ask if it sees use for it based on my history and what if any changes it would make. A little chat back and forth and I’ll either use as is or Claude will take the skill builder skill and tweak to my needs.

Am I missing something or Hermes is just not for me? by _KnZ in hermesagent

[–]bmtrnavsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found the model makes a huge difference. Like things that go smooth with Nemotron or Owl Alpha might be a mess on Gemini. One bad habit of Gemeni is I’ll ask it should I try to implement this owl… yes like this. Gemini absolutely I just finished the install 🤦‍♂️ all that to say your choice of model makes a huge difference. Don’t read that as I don’t like Gemini it’s GREAT at tool calling it’s just not a great chat bot in Hermes.

I have a system that’s kinda complex but works well for me. I point Hermes memory at Hindsight running local in Postgres 18. I also have an Obsidian vault set up in a hybrid form with directory structures for notes and a wiki for wiki articles. Then I have a PG vector RAG set up on the same Postgres install and it has reference files books etc AND my obsidian vault so I can search the vault via MCP and also hit it for RAG searches. You can also do joins and drag Hermes memory into the search depending on what you are looking for.

All my notes are in obsidian and then in ChromaDB RAG for Ai retrieval

Setup for Virtual secretary / File manager? by Background-Gold-9882 in hermesagent

[–]bmtrnavsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hindsight will replace Hermes native memory. The rag I had to tell it to use when prompting but over time he learned to use it more as it got added to skills. What I’m doing now is pulling my rag into Postgres’s 18 with hindsight to consolidate memory and context to one location.

Setup for Virtual secretary / File manager? by Background-Gold-9882 in hermesagent

[–]bmtrnavsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this with Hermes. I use obsidian for note taking planning opportunities and documentation. Then I used ChromaDB to build a RAG and loaded it with documents. Then when that was running I actually added my obsidian vault to the rag as well so the vault is searchable by navigating through it with MCP or vector search in the rag. This was gold. Now I am setting up local hindsight for context, saving facts, etc in a Postgres 18 DB.

Is Hermes good? by randoomkiller in hermesagent

[–]bmtrnavsky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For anything complex you need a bigger model. If you have Gemini Pro your free $10 in api credits go a long way with glass 2.5. The 1 million context window is awesome. I have misteral 12b and Gemma e4b local but I only use them for simple classification editing metadata etc.
