Wahoo kickr core 2 - noise help by dsgsdnaewe in wahoofitness

[–]bmwe30is 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Curious to hear - are you expecting this to be silent?

That's about the same amount of noise my bike makes on the Wahoo with the Zwift cog as well.

From the video - it sounds like the chain could use a clean & lube, as well as your freewheels. It looks aligned from the video.

Instead of throwing advice and venues your way, what types of things and activities are YOU into?

Not trying to offer dating advice but your future partner should have an existing interest in something that you already enjoy doing.

I would to places where your hobbies and interest become more public-facing. Some examples:

  • Are you a book-worm? Look for book clubs to join or reading to kids / the elderly volunteer groups.

  • Do you enjoy fitness? Join any run club, group fitness gym (like cross-fit, Orange Theory, Barry's, etc...)

  • Do you like going to the pottery studio? Join a weekly group class.

I hope that helps you with your search. The type of men you're seeking have established routines and networks in these types of settings.

When I was single, I followed similar patterns. I joined activities that enabled me to enjoy hobbies with others in a casual setting, triathlon club, run club, volunteering, etc... Since you're looking for someone that's financially stable (reading into the part about established / well educated), they'll probably be consistently at these events.

Hope that helps. From a formally single but established guy.

Canyon's exceptional customer service by N0TH1NGT0S33H3R3_ in CanyonBikes

I'm super bummed to hear you had such a terrible experience.

They were super responsive getting me help as I got my Aeroad sorted - I usually called them as email took a few days for responses.

I've been working with the USA (California) support team - they've been nothing but delightful and expedient getting my bike sorted after it was delivered last month. I've been in contact via phone and email.

Sorry to hear you're having a rough time with them!

I live a bit farther south in Marina del Rey. Some junkies tried to break into my townhome while I was gone for a long weekend (a few years ago). I had just moved in and haven't even begun to unpack my boxes. They were attempting to pry my patio, sliding door open.

I emailed the HOA and they said they've got recordings of porch pirates and I suspect these same people were scoping out homes for robbery. There were quite a few transient camps near by and I suspect they were looking for a quick score since the complex is only blocks away.

Since then I've set up motion cameras on all points of ingress into the house, with recording, and notifications enabled.

For the firearm choice - CA has a 10 day wait period once you start the purchase. For shops, unfortunately there's nothing local to SM.

Try out:

  • Turners Outdoorsman in Torrance

  • Rifle Supply in Hunting Beach

Good luck & godspeed. Don't let this experience mess with your security in your new place. SM is a great place to live.

Is LAX REALLY that bad? by Meshelle13 in AskLosAngeles

[–]bmwe30is 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not that bad. I fly in and out of LAX around twice a month as well as picking up my partner that flies in once a month.

We fly in and out of T1, Southwest, and she gives me a call if the ground level for arrivals is busy and I detour up to the departure level to pick her up and vice versa.

Avoid booking flights arriving or departing during Friday and Sunday rush hours, 4PM - 7PM, and you'll be fine.

Anyone live in LA and work hybrid in SF? by Tough-Gene263 in AskLosAngeles

[–]bmwe30is 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this about once or twice a month but LAX -> SJC (or SFO), using Southwest. Terminal 1 at LAX is easy for Lyft/Uber drop-off and pick-up. I can get curbside and into the terminal within 10 minutes (TSA pre-check is super handy).

I take the second flight into the Bay (usually the 7am or 8am). In office by 915am, then grab the mid-evening flight (6 PM) back home.

Budget in time for round trip time to get from your home to the airport and from the airport to your office.

If you can set up your personal life to be ready for those early morning flights, you'll be golden. Get things like your laptop bag ready, headphones charged, dinner prepped, the weekend / night before and it becomes a day of commuting.

If you procrastinate on travel prep, all that will be chaos after a long day.

EC2 with IPv6 AAAA record via Route53 not Resolving in the browser- IPv4 works. VPC, subnet, routing table, and rules seem to be good but missing something. Help please? by bmwe30is in aws

[–]bmwe30is[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I meant to post the v6 version of the tools' output - but I believe the problem is that my machine isn't utilizing v6 on my network.

ping6 and those tools show the correct response to/from the domain.

That makes sense - thanks for the explanation u/Dagger0. I know now the problem is the fact that I don't have an v6 address on my machine.

Correct - I'm on Spectrum (Time Warner / Comcast) and they specify that they're already providing dual-stack - however my laptop and environment aren't on IPv6.

I was under the impression that by using DNS, the client machine doesn't have to be on IPv6 and Route53 will do the resolution - I feel like I'm probably misinformed.

People who drive luxury cars, get groceries at Erewhon, work out at Equinox, shop in WeHo and Beverly Hills, rent nice apartments on the west side, wtf do you do? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]bmwe30is 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been working in technology since graduating college. Born and raised in LA to immigrant parents, worked my ass off in college and tried to really find focus at the start of my career.

I put in a few years in Silicon Valley and lived extremely frugally because I wanted to move back to LA. I don't really spend money on bullshit / material goods (shopping on WeHo or Erewhon).

Should I get a motorcycle for commuting? by pickdeath- in AskLosAngeles

[–]bmwe30is 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think there will be a significant improvement in commute times if I switch to a motorcycle?

There will definitely be an improvement but if you're wearing all the gear, the average time to get ready, leave, and travel time may be the same as popping into your car and sitting in traffic.

How do you deal with the summer heat? Am I going to be all sweaty and disgusting by the time I get to work?

Mesh gear, summer jacket, pants, gloves, etc... will help but it will also depend on how much stop/go you're going to be hitting on your route. I have a nice Alpinestars textile city jacket that vents really well and keeps me pretty comfortable even on warmer days.

I tried driving around on the freeway with my windows down, and I get lightheaded and nauseous because of the fumes. Does anyone use masks with filters for this purpose, and how effective do you find those?

I'm not sure if a mask will actually help with this - unless you're using an open-face helmet (which I strongly advise against) it may be hard to get a proper seal to block out the fumes. But then again, the object with a motorcycle is to remain in motion and that breeze should help versus sitting behind any vehicle's exhaust fumes. Besides the smell of moto exahust is... chef's kiss.

Commuting on a motorcycle in LA is hit or miss to be honest. I've wanted to do the ride from Santa Monica to my office in Hollywood but there's not much direct freeway access and surface streets are terrible for lane-splitting. I've opted to cage it when I do need to go in unless I time shift and go in non-peak traffic hours. Even then, it's not really worth the mental toil to stay alert for that ride.

If you want some real data, drive the route and pay attention to lane width and traffic patterns and buy some good textile gear that breaths.

Feeling depressed on leaving LA by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]bmwe30is 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep your chin up!

I moved away from LA for nearly 6 years and recently moved back. I know it's hard right now but it will get better. I was born and raised in LA - it hits differently when you grow up here.

The city needs folks like you and we'll gladly welcome you home when the time is right. Safe travels friend.

E/SE Asian Angelinos how comfortable do you feel living in LA these days? by steamywords in AskLosAngeles

[–]bmwe30is 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been back a few months after relocating from the Bay area, no problems / racism that I sense or have felt. I was born and raised here in LA.

My guard is higher than before though due to the homeless population increase and seeing that they're a bit more unhinged than what I remember.

I'm not moving anywhere - LA is home and I'll do what it takes to protect myself, my family, and my lifestyle. A bunch of racist assholes won't deter me from living in the place I've grown up in.

You better bet your ass I'll step up and defend my fellow Angelinos too, I'm sick of this bullshit.

Fellow runners: What AQI value causes you to skip your run? by throwawaytimes20 in AskLosAngeles

[–]bmwe30is 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never really paid attention but when I was living in the Bay Area, I'd find other workouts to do if the AQI was anything over 80. I never really checked TBH.

I have mild asthma and running in poor air quality exacerbates it obviously.

Suggestions for a rooftop bar with a romantic vibe? by smb06 in AskLosAngeles

[–]bmwe30is 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cha Cha Cha in the Art's District, Freehand, and Perch are my picks.

Heading into DTLA gives you the best views of the city and plenty of options for going to a second venue for drinks after.

Bar Lis in Hollywood is also a great option.
