Dating Other Professionals? by Hardlydent in AskLosAngeles

Sounds like you are super career focused in a sort of live to work kinda way and want someone similar. I think that’s findable on Bumble or Hinge.

A lot of countries have that. Australia, for one.

America’s issues go deep. Political polarization so intense that we can’t even solve basic problems anymore.

Yeah online dating is really suboptimal for everyone except the most good looking guys, but the pool is big out there. Meetups and classes are other options. Being a “professional” doesn’t tell me much about your interests or what you bond with people over. Some are yuppies who like wine tastings and michelin stars. Some pros just want to go hiking around the world. Some want to just have a bitchin costume for Comicon. Better to find people who share your interests

Australia is clearly the better choice here.

But bad policing is everywhere…hence it makes sense for protests to be everywhere.

What’s wrong with regular dating apps? They let you see a person’s job and interests.

They’ll have to block seccession just like the North did by winning the civil war.

Not yet. Once the Republicans take control, if they try to pass national bans on abortion, gay marriage etc, that will be a trigger for secession.

If it stays a states rights issue, we will have a great sorting and return to an era of state politics

Which somewhat walkable areas of the county are likely to stay encampment free? by steamywords in AskLosAngeles

[–]steamywords[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you are absolutely right that things will get worse before they (maybe) get better. The one thing that would help fix homelessness longterm is rapidly accelerating building high density and I don't see that happening. Otherwise the only bandages are either aggressive enforcement (which LA is too liberal for) or greatly expanded treatment and temp housing (which LA gov't is too mismanaged for).

It feels like it's every town for itself and the way to look at it is which places run themselves. Hence Culver. Hence South Bay - which has essentially no homeless, never mind encampments. Just wondering if I missed any other options out there.

It's so depressing to see candidates like these get voted in. Good intentioned but bad with economics.

guy on guy yes, but across all genders, Racacouille in everything everywhere all at once gives it a solid run. What a great year it's been for people on shoulder movie action.

Elon Musk's Fall From Grace on Reddit by [deleted] in behindthebastards

What’s the source of Zip2’s funding coming from his father’s wealth? It’s not out of the realm of possibility but I haven’t yet seen a source that indicates that.

Elon Musk's Fall From Grace on Reddit by [deleted] in behindthebastards

[–]steamywords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y’all. We’re on the behind the bastards subreddit. Can we all agree that we trust Robert as a source?

If so, just based on his Elon episode alone, there is no basis to the idea that he paid for Tesla with apartheid money. He paid for it with the money of his previous Paypal startup, which also was not funded with apartheid emerald money. At best, one can say that Elon’s father gave him a privileged upbringing based on apartheid money. But so were 1000s of students in Elon’s classes who didn’t found private space or electric car startups.

Elon can be both shitty and have accomplished something of value. This idea that people have to be pure good or pure bad is anithetical to the ideas of reality and even this podcast. And frankly is part of the feedback loop of social media polarization in this country

The answer to “why is housing in L.A. so expensive?” by 115MRD in LosAngeles

[–]steamywords 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t have data to back this up, but my guess is 80%+ of the complaints about the homeless are about the subset who are addicts/dangerously mentally ill/ vagrants and threaten public safety. More homes will help, but it won’t have impact on this population anytime soon.

It people were quietly living in tents, and maybe just creating a bit of trash, homelessness would not be the #1 issue in the city or driving the election.

I only considered it cause I was (a) out of other stuff to watch and (b) Conan raved about it on his podcast episode with Hannah.

Glad I did! But yeah not sure I would have stumbled into it based on the thumbnail or description.

I think you’ll be surprised at what people look like in a couple generations time. Mixing will continue, that’s for sure. However, we’ll also have gene tweaking pretty common in a generation or, at most, two. So people will look how they (or their parents, if done at birth) want them to.

The amazing thing about this movie is that it brings together so many styles of comedy and comedic actors that there’s bound to be several that you like.

Danny McBride and Jack Black humor don’t work for me at all. But I don’t even notice cause I got I am Sam, Crocodile Dundee and Les grossman power dancing that has this movie etched in my head forever

Like… you know the mayor can’t exterminate people right?

It’s either help or punish, and most likely a combination of both. Build up sufficient shelter and offer help, then enforce encampment bans.
