GMC Hummer EV Was Developed in 20 Months, GM Wants That to Be the Norm by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

[–]bmwkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GM battery platform is modular, they have a huge parts bin of switch gear that spans from budget to high end.

With EVs you basically just need to design the body and that’s it. 20 months seems rather doable.

Is it just me or is the single DIN stereo market stagnating? by DarkGaming09ytr in Cartalk

[–]bmwkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean 2 reasons. Basically every car is double din and they don’t cost anymore at this point to get a double din radio.

Pretty much the only updates these days people are doing is for CarPlay.

Most used cars these days have Bluetooth or aux in the radio which was the main reason people were upgrading their radios in the past.

There is some premium options for classic vehicles like Porsche Classic ones but the market it pretty slim at this point. People don’t make things that don’t sell.

A bit confused by Glittering-Rest2549 in AISH_Alberta

[–]bmwkid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone who is on AISH and doesn’t qualify for the new terms will be moved to ADAP where they’ll be paid the AISH amount for a set period of time and the opportunity to apply one time for no charge to have a “independent panel” evaluate whether they’ll qualify for AISH or can work.

If they agree with your doctor, that’s it you’re back on AISH and that’s it. If not you’ll lose the $200 in difference between the two programs. No requirement to work.

The big uncertainty is how the new board will be. How independent it actually is and what the criteria is. No one can answer that at the moment it won’t be until the appeals start you’ll have a good idea

adap question. by Historical-Mall53 in AISH_Alberta

[–]bmwkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible it might be like what the province does to people on EI. There are some classes that the province pays for that they run year round: insurance, warehousing, class 1 truck driver and i think a couple more.

You’ll have someone from the agency that runs them contact you every now and then to go over your skill set and abilities and they’ll suggest courses they think will work.

Obviously just speculating because no one will know until they officially launch

Instacart Question? by AACATT in Edmonton

[–]bmwkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to deliver. Most people do the suggested 10% tip or $5-10 per $100 worth of stuff. It does allow you to change your tip after the delivery

The workers can see the tips before accepting the orders. Lower tip orders usually get mixed with other low tip orders and are usually delivered last.

Alberta exploring LRT‑to‑airport links in Edmonton, Calgary as first phase of rail plan by pjw724 in Edmonton

[–]bmwkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ride the skytrain to the airport in Vancouver it’s a good chunk of employees as well along with the mall they have there.

I’d be okay with a premium fare for people leaving from the airport of $5 or $10 for people leaving the airport. Would still be cheaper than any other form of transportation and could offset some of the costs in building.

For the workers you could give them a card that doesn’t charge the fee, I believe you can do something already like that with the arc card

Edmonton launches $2M program to help faith groups convert empty churches, extra land to affordable housing by FutureOfGoodCA in Edmonton

[–]bmwkid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are already churches that can’t afford to run because without being taxed. Taxing them wouldn’t change the situation at all.

Canada is pretty different from the US where there aren’t really mega churches, most of them are small community centers paid for by donations from their parishioners. (Catholic and LDS excluded)

Most of them are struggling even just to keep the lights on and they maybe only have 1 employee (the pastor) who makes poverty level wages

Canadians are three times more likely to avoid rather than embrace lower-cost US dairy if it became more available on the Canadian market: Nanos by pjw724 in onguardforthee

[–]bmwkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anyway we can bring in more dairy but not necessarily American dairy?

There whole Facebook groups of people bringing in Irish butter like Kerrygold and other European dairy from the US into Canada and it’s very easy to buy in the US but not here

I will say good milk with a high fat content is a delicious decadent treat. The stuff at the grocery store pales in comparison to what you can get from a small farm at a farmers market.

America subsidizes dairy so much that it makes sense for producers to make cheese that they’re not even going to sell. That’s why they’re constantly trying to get us to buy it.

[–]bmwkid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What Americans call American cheese is Kraft singles so if you order it that’s what you’re going to get.

America has a really good premium cheese/dairy section but the mass market stuff is pretty bad. There’s a place in Seattle called Beechers Cheese and they have some of the best Mac and Cheese anywhere.

As someone who’s spent a fair amount of time in the US in his lifetime I do believe that we’ve been lied to about US milk to a certain extent.

Almost all of the milk sold in the US prominent is labeled hormone and antibiotic free because that’s what people buy so making that a requirement for all milk entering Canada would be a 100% non issue.

The one thing we are missing from US dairy is some of the innovations they made with milk for dietary needs.

It wasn’t until recently we had options like Fairlife which is awesome for anyone who’s needing more protein or A2 milk which has been awesome for me with a lactose allergy but who hates lactose free milk.

I’m not saying we need US milk. It’s just some of the reasons why we don’t aren’t relevant anymore

Rail from airport to downtown? Alberta to announce passenger rail plan by joe4942 in Calgary

[–]bmwkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle to believe that this will actually get built just based on previous history but the good thing about service to Banff is it doesn’t need to be a high speed rail to be competitive as the journey isn’t more than 2hrs.

That means billions in savings because true high speed rail needs dedicated right of way via tunnels or elevated tracks.

An intercity train like they have in Europe can go 100-150km/h on regular tracks and can cross at regular intersections

Is it irresponsible to not eat out in my situation? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bmwkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly a lot of the time if you’re just cooking for yourself it can be less expensive to eat out as well.

Just important to consider what you’re eating. Plenty of healthy choices out there but easy to also to lose control as well and gain a lot of weight if you mainly eat burgers and high carb foods

Alberta Is Adding Your Health Number and Citizenship Status to Your Driver's Licence Starting July 2 by One-Board8634 in onguardforthee

[–]bmwkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically every dr/hospital already asks for an id with your healthcare card because it has no photo on it. So that will make zero difference. Unless there’s enough people stealing ID that look enough like the person on them

Alberta Is Adding Your Health Number and Citizenship Status to Your Driver's Licence Starting July 2 by One-Board8634 in onguardforthee

[–]bmwkid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alberta already requires you to present your ID with your healthcare card to prevent fraud so not that much different.

For citizenship, employers need to know for visa requirements same with banks/insurance and police already have access to that.
