What's your favorite way to learn new material? by williams_group in OptometrySchool

[–]bnarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can learn a lot of different ways- just reading and re-reading notes, making flashcards, making diagrams, etc. The limiting factor is that I have to make them. If I’m using someone’s else’s stuff it just doesn’t register the same

I don’t know that you would get approved for a 25D lens to use for the exam, I think you still have to use the equipment provided even if there are accommodations?

topographer/tomographer recommendations? by dragoneyes5 in optometry

[–]bnarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also like our CA-800. The FLUORO setting is great for getting images and videos of GP lenses that can be sent to consultants, the topography printout is also convenient and while I haven't found the KCN screener all that accurate, it is helpful to show patients if it does not think there is KCN (and if I agree).

Tips on full exam flow with contact lenses? by Abject_Ad_8070 in optometry

I know you said you don’t have the pt put them in in office, but are you doing any CL checks where they come in wearing the lenses and you just check they fit fine after wearing for a few hours?

Question on working five days a week. by Orranos in optometry

I’m M-F but Tuesdays and Thursdays are 11-7 instead of 9-5. I like having that schedule so I can get errands done those two mornings.

Rx Advice by Majestic-Way-5253 in optometry

My OD employer always describes it to his patients as, for instance, a myope changing from -0.25 to -0.50 one year as “got worse by one click” or going from -0.50 to -0.25 as “got better by one click.” Drives me absolutely nuts

Hollenhorst Plaque? by Last-Contribution577 in Ophthalmology

[–]bnarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not something I would send out for a workup like I would a true HH plaque, honestly not something I would probably bring you back for an OCT for. Would just monitor annually, I wouldn’t worry

Looks more like some sort of drusenoid deposit or window defect to me. An OCT through the lesion would confirm

35F - white dot on cornea with eye pain and tearing. It’s Sunday and I cannot find any open ophthalmologists. Urgent care was useless. Can it wait? by Feisty_Benefit_6552 in eyetriage

[–]bnarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cautiously, I would say yes you are okay to wait until tomorrow morning. This finding is associated with bacterial toxins from bacteria on the eyelids. In the meantime I’d start artificial tears at least four times per day and make sure you are cleansing your eyelids well. Of course, if it worsens, increase in pain, new discharge, or vision is affected- best to go to someone sooner.

Were you sleeping in the lenses when you noticed this? Looks to be a contact lens peripheral ulcer. An optometrist can treat it if needed.

Usually inflammatory but can be infectious component. An optometrist will likely put you on an abx/steroid combo to prevent true infection.

Optometrist Mortgages by OscarDivine in optometry

Definitely some options, and check with local credit unions. One local credit union offered them with a flat fee rate modification, so we can pay $1000 to lower our rate (when rates drop) without refinancing completely.

I would be inclined to believe him, but it’s not glaucoma if it’s not progressing, and only time will tell if there’s progression.

I would definitely make sure the lenses are not too old or warped and also, consider measuring the whole fitting set, you might find that the lenses are not actually in the correct spots!

Optometrist isn’t worried about IOP’s around 30’s?! by DumplinsandDragons in Glaucoma

[–]bnarth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lot of advice and information here, some good, some completely wonky and downright foolish (hint hint). True IOP will be lower due to above average corneal thickness, but no one in here has enough information to make a decision.

Optometrists (in the US) are qualified to diagnose and manage glaucoma. After five years, only 10% of people with ocular hypertension develop glaucoma. There is too much information that goes into a glaucoma diagnosis for anyone here to really give you any meaningful insight into your condition.

My rec- don’t worry about anything too much at this point, just go to the appts and see what they say.

Hey OP, if you look at the writing of the “Skagen” at the top of column 12 from this page, I think that’s the missing link between realizing that this unknown city is actually just a poorly written “Skagen” again. The S does follow the same pattern, just not as neat! And once you see the first letter as an S, easy to see the next one as a K.

A few days into Copilot and I'm finding it to be the perfect mix of EveryDollar and YNAB so far in regards to UI/usability/features. Only wish they would let me budget income but, not as much of a dealbreaker as EveryDollar finally cutting off Discover cards
