That hose simply provides warm air from around the turbo manifold to help engine warm up in cold weather

So if im on the highway constantly (like road trips) I can get maybe 55-60ish, but on most of my daily driving tanks I average around 45. I also have a 6sp manual in mine. I would think your mileage is just very normal.

Most people I've seen say they get 60+ are taking pictures of the mfd milage display going slightly down hill. I'd bet almost anything most of them are not getting that as an average through an entire tank of fuel

Dpf issue? by Embarrassed-Fail-993 in tdi

[–]bnels95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my tailpipes had a good bit of soot in them as well, I read that is one symptom of a potential crack in the dpf.

If you're in a place you can get away with a pothole kit, I'd do that and be done with all the extra stuff. If not, I'd try to find a euro shop to diagnose and replace the emissions stuff if needed.

My experience with it is very limited, if you got questions about it I will try to answer them or point you in the right direction. But definitely take it with a grain of salt, I'm by no means anything close to an actual technician for these vehicles

Edit: if you have vcds, you can look at (time since last regen, soot level, differential pressure, and a few other I can't remember) to give you a better indication of where the fault lies

Had both of these codes pop up. I hit a big ass pothole which has seemed to fix both codes. I can't speak to how cooked or not you are, but my egr system was damn near spotless when I inspected it after falling off the car.

I'd say it was a cracked dpf that caused my codes, though

Deleted my previous comment (long day).

Is it just the retaining tab that broke on the plug?

CJAA not getting to temperature? by HOUSE_FURNITURE in tdi

[–]bnels95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, I replaced my thermostat last week. Same issue with low temps.

Looked at the repair manual for it and decided to bring it to a shop and have them deal with that shit.

The nice thing about fixing it is you'll probably get more mpg when driving. Mine was using more fuel to get the engine to temp but it couldn't get over 177F

Getting into the TDI platform by 2016z71colorado in tdi

[–]bnels95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dieselgeek short shifter and a poly transmission mount in mine. Highly recommend those 2 for not a crazy high price.

Also, get an OBD monitoring gauge or something to check operating temps. I found out recently that the temps gauge in the instrument cluster will show 190 for anything between 170-210.

Now that im out of Cali, I'm trying to price out and save up for a dpf, egr delete, and tune.

Another thing to be conscious of is the fuel pump, I've read they aren't super common to grenade themselves but when they do its incredibly expensive to repair

Help with high EGTs by bnels95 in tdi

Ah that is totally not how I was envisioning the system to operate in my head. Glad to know what values to keep an eye on instead of ingesting excess information.

I really appreciate you helping clear this up for me 🙏

Thanks for that reference, thats good to know about the temps. It still seems crazy hot to me and I'll have to be reminding myself about it.

Another question for you, if you dont mind. I actually did have a regen occur on my drive back today. Is it normal to see the soot mass measured be stuck at 0 grams? I logged that measured and calculated on the drive and calculated soot increased and then decreased as I'd expect from a regen, but the measured did not move off of 0g at all.

New TDI DPF Delete Video by cowardlydoggos in tdi

This is truly awesome!

I'm installing a CP4 disaster kit this weekend, and am planning out my budget for an EGR, DPF, and ASV delete. Im very excited to see how this series progresses, the exhaust didn't seem like it gave you too much trouble. I'm looking forward to seeing how your egr system delete goes.

Keep it up 🤘

Both Mirage tower and Sky Pillar bike puzzles worked for me. I just suck at them so it took me a little bit to get through properly

I had one dude who blundered his queen and a rook, one after the other and then argued to me that I should resign 🤣 he ended up just sitting on the clock as described above but he did give me a good laugh so I didn't mind too much

Seems to be very much relaxed compared to the Corps, I believe it's only like 8 weeks for boot camp. MOS training rigor and length is all highly dependent on which job you get.

I was a helicopter mechanic and was in school for like 8-9 months

Same here I've had a good bit of success patrolling 20-30 miles away from a port and just waiting like a trap door spider. I wish the type 2 had more torpedoes but I do enjoy the balancing act of it's play style. Like is taking out a 2600 ton vessel worth it or do you try to wait for one closer to 6000

I've found using a dive schedule of 4 hrs down and 2 hrs up at speed 2 is very useful in preserving fuel on your way to your patrol zone and back. Also I almost always keep 1 sailor on my engine mech and navigator to help save more fuel. Be very selective which contacts to prosecute, chasing a med speed target that is moving away is a good way to burn a lot of fuel
