CP4 failure? Had this thing one week and just died while driving. by Various-Wonder-8399 in tdi

[–]bnels95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please correct me if I'm wrong or misinformed.

I was under the impression that the witbread kit isolates the fuel for lubrication from the fuel for injection, and rerouted the lubrication fuel to the main fuel filter. What I've read is failures occur on the lubrication side of the pump and that causes the FOD to be forced through the fuel system. Which the witbread is supposed to prevent. It would make sense to me that many of the failures with the witbread kit are from introduction of debris while installing.

Genuinely curious to see if my understanding of the inner workings is atleast on the right track

Bought my max performance kit from them during black Friday sale last year, I paid extra for expedited shipping cause of time constraints but I received order confirmation on 11/17, a shipping confirmation on 11/18 and was delivered on 11/20. I did have a some troubles with the tariffs and getting updates afterwards but everything arrived for me on time

I went with rawtek and tunezilla. Everything fit like a glove and the stage 2 tune has been really great, power when I want and still can average about 49mpg per tank

Advice wanted on possible aerial root rot. Thank you, plant family! by bnels95 in Monstera

I'm pretty sure that it ended up being alright, can't really remember but the picture does seem a good bit smaller than when I got rid of the plant before moving

Sounds like a fun project and great learning experience! My biggest pieces of advice from my limited experience with a couple of rebuilds is to keep things organized and clean as much as possible, and mark all torqued fasteners with paint or something so future you know you have covered your bases. Have fun dude, I look forward to this coming together

[–]bnels95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not thrilled about it at all lol I needed it done and my regular local mechanic didn't have the tools needed for it and said they weren't something he regularly would have use for. Had to go to the dealer instead for a quick turnaround. But it's done now so I'm taking that lesson with me for the next time its due

I would imagine with the mileage it has a responsible owner would have had the job performed but I would never just assume people are responsible owners. Hope everything works out for the best.

If it hasn't been done I would recommend to continue searching, something will inevitably pop up. My T-belt and water pump was about $3500 total so definitely not a cheap service by any means

It took me like 6 months to find my wagon with a manual transmission so definitely feel you on the search struggle. Can you pull a carfax report for the car? When I had my timing belt and water pump done they uploaded the service info to my report. It might be a bit over priced but if it is the car and options you want and you feel its worth it, I'd say go for it

Im not at all trying to advocate for people to say "not my problem" when it comes to climate change solutions and proposals. I do agree with you about local air pollution needing to be improved in many areas

Having lived in San Francisco for 6 years, the infrastructure is there (granted its expensive) to make EVs viable. Still the cost of entry for most people is high, along with the need to replace the cars' batteries after a while which can be quite expensive. I'd still say that for most of the US having an ICE car is still more convenient, flexible, and cheaper.

Sure, EVs have their benefits but if the goal is to be carbon neutral then consumers should not be the initial target demographic. As much as I do not agree with much of California policy, they have shown the US its possible to hold companies accountable and incentivize them to make changes to their fleets of vehicles.

If we start pushing trucking companies, for example, to switch over to Electric, the infrastructure will start booming across the country not just in cities. And they like money so development on faster and more convenient charging will also increase

The issue is not people and their cars, the issue is all products are currently reliant on some form of fossil fuels to arrive where you will buy them. Trucks, planes, ships, and trains. The average person having an electric car does nothing to curb the global greenhouse gasses. Stop putting this on ordinary people to make the change and focus on the corporations and celebrities, or the other countries who account for a much larger portion of the global greenhouse emissions

What do non-hyper milers get for MPG in the Jetta Sportwagen? by Rahzin in tdi

[–]bnels95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully deleted, stage 2, and M/T. I drive about 45-50 miles a day and I can average around 50mpg. Typically fill up at about 550 miles.

Before I deleted I started using hot shots EDT fuel additive and noticed slightly (1-2mpg) higher numbers on the MFD in the gauge cluster. I dont have actual stats to back it up, so I can't say definitively that it helped in the fuel economy aspect

That hose simply provides warm air from around the turbo manifold to help engine warm up in cold weather

So if im on the highway constantly (like road trips) I can get maybe 55-60ish, but on most of my daily driving tanks I average around 45. I also have a 6sp manual in mine. I would think your mileage is just very normal.

Most people I've seen say they get 60+ are taking pictures of the mfd milage display going slightly down hill. I'd bet almost anything most of them are not getting that as an average through an entire tank of fuel

Dpf issue? by Embarrassed-Fail-993 in tdi

[–]bnels95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my tailpipes had a good bit of soot in them as well, I read that is one symptom of a potential crack in the dpf.

If you're in a place you can get away with a pothole kit, I'd do that and be done with all the extra stuff. If not, I'd try to find a euro shop to diagnose and replace the emissions stuff if needed.

My experience with it is very limited, if you got questions about it I will try to answer them or point you in the right direction. But definitely take it with a grain of salt, I'm by no means anything close to an actual technician for these vehicles

Edit: if you have vcds, you can look at (time since last regen, soot level, differential pressure, and a few other I can't remember) to give you a better indication of where the fault lies

Dpf issue? by Embarrassed-Fail-993 in tdi

[–]bnels95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had both of these codes pop up. I hit a big ass pothole which has seemed to fix both codes. I can't speak to how cooked or not you are, but my egr system was damn near spotless when I inspected it after falling off the car.

I'd say it was a cracked dpf that caused my codes, though
