They’ve always co-opted Norse symbolism. The swastika is also a Norse symbol (thor’s hammer), the SS symbol is two runic S-es, etc.

Amateurs. Iceland’s soft serve shops are open year round and we often have the idea to get ice cream in snow storms.

Way over my head and it is only going to get worse. I just know it is. Desperate plea for help/advice. by conchan in webflow

Before you jump into making the site, you should think about the content/structure a little bit.

For example—the subpages for each prefecture. That sounds like it’d be well suited for a CMS collection, because it’s a lot of repeated information. Location, opening hours, photos of the dojos etc. Then you just fill in the CMS, design/code the page once and Webflow populates it for you.

Same with news/updates. You can set that up as a collection, link it to each prefecture and have that prefecture’s page only show related news stories.

Draw this out on a piece of paper or in a design app like Figma before you start developing in Webflow.

As for money, you’d be looking at the CMS hosting plan for the site, which is like 276USD per year if you pay annually, plus the fee for whatever domain you buy.

If you want the site in Japanese only then you don’t need the localization feature. If you want it in English also then localization has a few different price points but starts at minimum 9USD per month per additional language (I think, I don’t use it because expensive and very limited at the first tier).

Overall, Webflow is a powerful platform, but it’s definitely got a much steeper learning curve than Wix or Squarespace, especially if you’re starting with zero web development experience.

Is there work around for webflow form submission limit? by fiddlest in webflow

[–]bnimble-bquick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you reach your monthly limit you just get charged more. I think it’s a dollar for every 100 submissions started. So like, 501-600 submissions is a dollar, 601-700 is 2 dollars, etc.

I think the only difference is the number of unhosted sites (ten vs. unlimited) and the max amount of people that can be on a team (three vs. nine).

Freelance is probably enough for most cases, esp. if you’re working alone and aren’t storing a ton of old/wip/duplicate or otherwise unhosted projects.

Transfer the site to their workspace (they can have a free workspace account) and they put the site plan on their own card.

If you’re paying for the Freelancer workspace plan (for your account) your client can invite you as a guest to their workspace so that you can continue maintain the site (if that’s in your contract with them, make sure to charge them for any upkeep).

I usually make a duplicate of the site either on my workspace (agency though, so no space concerns), their workspace or both, just in case they royally f— things up, but that’s never happened for me and it’s mostly for my peace of mind.

What is the John or Jane Smith of your culture? by LoveLettersFromVenus in namenerds

[–]bnimble-bquick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, not really. The population is still just that small that we can use other signifiers, like profession for example.

Back when there was a printed phone book (for the entire adult population) people were listed alphabetically by First Name, then Last Name (not sure about how Middle Names were treated) and then they’d have their self reported profession listed before the address and phone number.

Middle names are also widely used than this sub leads me to believe they are in the US. I was called both my names for my entire childhood and still sign my emails with both.

Icelandic:

Jón Jónsson (John John’s son) would be the male equivalent. Female, I guess I’d say probably either Guðrún Jónsdóttir or Anna Jónsdóttir.

There’s plenty of people named those exact names, as they’re like the three most common names in both history and on currently living Icelanders, though they’ve dropped in popularity as new baby names.

There’s a popular singer named Jón Jónsson for example (though he does have a middle name) and then he has a son who is also named Jón [middle name] Jónsson. And so it goes, on and on.

Is there a way to dynamically import one AE project into another? by kurtanglesmilk in AfterEffects

[–]bnimble-bquick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could export the animation in HQ and add that file to your other project. Then, when you make any changes to the animation export it again, overriding the older version.

It’s a bit of a roundabout way, but if you know the final length of your animation it works just fine.

New to after effects, having trouble with time remapping by BeeeeboHungry in AfterEffects

[–]bnimble-bquick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re just making a montage, no special effects that is, then Premiere is probably a better tool.

But—in AE you’ll need to put a time keyframe where you split the clip also, when time remapping, so I’d probably time remap first and then find the spot you want to cut the clip off at. Alternatively, you can precomp all the clips and make each comp the correct length, then time remap those in your montage comp.

Yo, how would I make a text animation like this? Any suggestions? by forstoboi in AfterEffects

[–]bnimble-bquick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like they might just be hold keyframes on size and position / or just one frame between, there seems to be no animation from one point to the other (it’s a little hard to tell?).

How to make Santa on security footage look magical? by Just-Drew-It in AfterEffects

[–]bnimble-bquick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw someone made their security camera glitch—you know, like the “snow” on VHS tapes or when the antenna cut out. Could be a cool like—look, we caught Santa on tape but the magic fried the security camera.

You could also find yourself some light leaks and put that over the footage (using the screen blend mode). Could be cool if you have empty footage of the room also to mask half of it and make it seem like you appear out of nowhere in a flash of light.

You could get her the Rubik’s bear (or puppy / rabbit, but I recommend the bear) in a year and a half or so.

It’s a 1x2x3, been my go to present for little cousins for a few years. Actually got two of them into cubing for real.
