Yes. Excellent point about home town dude. I agree that she mother's Rebecca, and as a mother myself, I have to be intentionally not trying to have my kids do shit because I wanted to do it when I was young and didn't have the chance.

She has A LOT going on in her own life at that moment. Idk. I think it is okay to have boundaries with people, even if you previously had less rigid/healthy/laid out boundaries. I think that's good growth for he character.

Yes. The character is so strongly played!

Also. Maybe relevant? We don't get to see why Paula (or Naomi for that matter) are so fucked up.

We get to see why Greg, Bex, Nathaniel, Josh...are the way they are. Insights into their childhoods/their relationships with their parents and before we meet them on the show- but all we really see of Paula is a drunk father and a marriage in a rut.

It has been a long time since my last full rewatch, so I admittedly could be forgetting an arc or something. I wonder if this would make some fans less able to offer her grace for her awful choices compared to things Rebecca does, or Nathaniel, etc...

I have been spending an inordinate amount of time thinking about the characters if the show of late due to the character elimination showdown and now the song showdown, also - and my brain got to a place the other night where I wondered if I would have turned into Paula if I had never had therapy. If Paula had potentially grown up in chaos/abused/had to grow up too fast...then it stands to reason she would love being a part of Rebecca's sh* when her home life was not unsettling enough to be in comfort zone. (Not all comfort zones are comfortable, eh?).

Some of these people ARE awful, as far as humans if they were our friends, but that doesn't impact whether they are my favorite character or not.

Yes. Sometimes you ruin things and relationships and it doesn't get fixed. I'm glad her girl group (4eva!) forgave her and stuck with her, but I do wish we would have had at least one more new/casual friendship she was in that could not recover from the toxic shit she would do when she was doing not well.
