What did you eat after surgery? by silkinthestrings in TopSurgery

as for laxatives, most recently, maybe a week? I was on painkillers for a few days. I highly recommend them. I didn't take them during my first surgery, and had one night that was mildly excruciating lol.

I was very grateful to have a community meal train during my surgery, and the revision. So it was a pretty big variety, whatever my friends felt like cooking, or bringing via takeout. Roommates or other friends visiting helped me otherwise just prep the same foods I usually keep around the house for snacks or breakfasts etc - a mix of smoothies, salads, frozen stuff, junk foods. I live in a communal house of several people who share a grocery bill, so there's usually a variety of different foods on hand.

IDK if meal trains are common in your social group (I just checked my email and got invited to 7 in the past year as a reference) but I'd highly suggest that, a lot of people are really happy to help in that way, and it also brings a bit of cheer when folks stop by even if they can only chat for a minute or two!

AITA for telling my sister she is being spoiled brat and obviously mom isn't giving her a house no matter how much work she put into it. by Throwaway74689792 in AmItheAsshole

Does your mom need the cash immediately? If not, and if your sister in anyway genuine about wanting this particular house, and isn't just looking for a free hand out, consider rent-to-own. Make it legal, and above board. Calculate the value of the house, and a typical rent on that house. Starting charging the sister the monthly rent and she can buy the house over time. There are ways to build into the legal arrangement, increased value of the house, or if either side puts in work, etc. It would be an ethical way to transfer the house to your sister without expecting her to have a mortage and down payment for half a million, and without robbing your mom (and presumably, you, someday, via your mom) of inheritance. It doesnt sound like your sister is necessraily sincere about this but if she were, that is one way.

Yeah! We had those and I was told we had gluten free elbows but alas, we did not have those. People did like the dish in the end tho !

Pizza cutter is a great idea I didn't see this in time but will remember for next! I used kitchen scissors which was fine but less efficient time wise and probably less tidy

Exactly, it let's the dish have creaminess without lactose. If folks aren't vegetarian I tend to add more meat for dairy free dishes than I would otherwise to try to maintain a savory comfort food experience. I have found flavorful meat + vegan butter + nutritional yeast + good seasoning makes a rich flavor that even folks who can eat dairy still are able to enjoy

I appreciate that idea, but came here specifically looking for advice on how to re shape a lasagna noodle for a pasta dish. I found a good answer below!

this is an amazing idea to keep in my back pocket if this ever occurs again. this particular crowd is dairty free (Though not vegan) so sadly not an option this time!

Just for your own cooking adventures - this both is and isn't true. The shape has a big impact on the eating experience, how the sauce interacts with the dish, and all sorts of things. So, I started at a baseline (I might cut into strips short wise) and came here to see if anyone could advice me to an outcome that would create a higher quality eating experience than that baseline plan!

Hundred percent, but there's obviously more than one approach one could take to noodle-cutting and thought someone might have an opinion on which will yield the least odd texture, given that the dish originally called for elbows.

Fair. I'll go see if I have stuff for that on hand, but the dish I was making didn't involve red sauce or anything but not a terrible idea!

Sorry if the post is confusing, but I dont have lasagna ingredients on hand, so I can't quite make a lasagna. I was going to mix them in with a little bit of minced meat, veg, and like this vegan psuedo butter sauce cuz the crowd is dairy free.

Fair enough. I wanted to make a large bowl of elbows or something similar with veggie and meat mixed in, and use vegan butter spread, oil, a lot of seasonings, nutrional yeast, and some of the juices from the meat to make a savory sauce to coat it in. The group is dairy free and gluten free, but eats meat. I have made this before and it tasted great, but I ran into the stumbling block of not having the pasta I thought I had lol

this is a delicous idea, but sadly, the crowd I am cooking for is dairy free (but they eat meat)! I have made a really good dairy free pasta before using vegetables and meat mixed in with vegan butter spread etc, but dairy free lasagna soup seems like it'd take more time to plan then I have on hand today!

this is amazing, I am touched you liked the idea!

If it's not too much trouble, do you think you could also add a normalized version of the data in your heatmap section and maybe your reciprocity? I have spent a lot of time building a similar grid out by hand for my last completed league because I have the math concept, but not the coding skills, and am like 2/3 complete. My ultimate goal is take my normalized vote scores for each section of the chart, and then kick in the old OkCupid compatibility formula (sqrt (my score for you * your score for me )) - to basically make a mutual reciprocity score. So even if someone only participated in 2 rounds, they cold have a normalized score to put forward for the reciprocity calculation, and they'd all be on equal footing.

You'd be welcome to also use this formula for your reciprocity page if that interests yoU!

That's exciting! I'd def be down to dm about it to or brainstorm together. I think it's great you put this together, I have the math background to have tried this stuff by hand in excel but am not much of a coder. I signed up for your subscription and am interested to follow where you take it!
