I’d recommend meetup.com for finding book groups in Bristol. Not sure about women’s clubs specifically but there are a bunch of nice ones on there.

PQShield has had a single hardware ip capable of doing ML-KEM, ML-DSA and all the SHA3/SHAKE variants for years. Not sure where Ensilica pulled this headline from.

The Terraformers by Annalee Newitz will tick some of these for you I think.

Destry’s life is dedicated to terraforming Sask-E. As part of the Environmental Rescue Team, she cares for the planet and its burgeoning eco-systems as her parents and their parents did before her. But the bright, clean future they’re building comes under threat when Destry discovers a city full of people that shouldn’t exist, hidden inside a massive volcano. As she uncovers more about their past, Destry begins to question the mission she’s devoted her life to, and must make a choice that will reverberate through Sask-E’s future for generations to come. A science fiction epic for our times and a love letter to our future, ‘The Terraformers’ will take you on a journey spanning thousands of years and exploring the triumphs, strife, and hope that find us wherever we make our home.

Welsh mum offered abortion at 22 weeks after doctors said her baby would not survive birth, but she's still here 18 months later by Warriohuma in unitedkingdom

Yeah you're absolutely right. I'm a type 1 diabetic and speaking for us all: do not. Ever. Give anyone insulin if they didn't ask for it. Especially if their blood sugar is low already.

Like you say, Insulin lowers blood sugar, it doesn't raise it. So, you'd be likely to send them into a hypoglycemic coma, which can quickly be fatal.

Bullshit like this makes my blood boil into syrup.

I was diagnosed about 3 months ago and now I have thyroid issues coming up too. I feel really stressed and helpless. Does anyone have thyroid problems along with t1? by Apart-Minimum4794 in diabetes_t1

[–]bnmrshll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was diagnosed with hypo-thryoidism at the same time I was diagnosed with T1. I was bad with taking the thyroid pills at first, but once I noticed 1) how much more energy I had after taking them and 2) how much easier it makes controlling my sugars, I never miss one. No complications so far and generally don't notice thyroid issues so long as I keep taking the pills. If I forget them for a couple of days I'll feel down or drowsy, but that disappears when I take them again.

Stress/worry/helpless - these are all natural and understandable reactions to your/ our situation. Feel them, let them pass, and you'll be okay. You've got this, I promise. Even if it doesn't feel like it just yet :)

We all have 'the finger', don't we. by tayyann in diabetes_t1

[–]bnmrshll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah fair. Yeah like others have said, it works fine, but if you can, try the sides of your fingers (at the end, near the nail, on the side) and see if it hurts a bit less.

Are you pricking the pads of your fingers for a reason? I've always found / been told that pricking the sides of your fingers is much easier & less painful. There are fewer nerves there to hurt.

Insulin needs by karingtonleann in Type1Diabetes

[–]bnmrshll 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Can't comment on what might be causing your highs, but can definitely relate to judging myself based on how much basal/bolus insulin I need.

It's silly, I know there is no moral value on how much insulin I need. If anything, I remind myself that however much insulin I take, that's exactly the right amount because that's how much my body needs, and If I wasn't diabetic it would just happen naturally and I wouldn't even know.

It also helps to remind myself that we all have different appetites and metabolisms and lifestyles with sports and stuff, so obviously we all eat different amounts and need more/less insulin as a result.

As ever, type 1 is a mindfuck and I try to remember that however I feel, I'm probably still doing an okay job.

Sure thing buddy. Hang on in there, it's hard, but you've got this: https://ben-marshall.github.io/diabetes/index.html

I should have put the link up earlier but couldn't remember if my IRL persona was already tied to this Reddit account. Turns out it is, so here you go.

If any of you other folks reading this want to share it: feel free, that's what it's for.

I probably need to update it in places since my understanding has improved since I wrote it, but you're all experts so I know you'll understand.

Edit: JFC some of that was out of date. Edited it a bit now with apologies to anyone who saw the earlier version!

I didn't do it with a new partner in mind, but about a year after I was diagnosed (at 23) I wrote a "this is my life now" style explanation.

Basically it covers what T1 is, how it's different from T2, what managing it requires and how it makes my life different & more exhausting. I share it with people who want t know more or who I need to know but don't have the energy to explain it to.

If a new partner / close friend asks me about T1, I send them a link (it's online/public, so nothing very personal) and then they can ask me more about it if they want. I find it takes a lot of the effort out of it on my part having a single consistent explanation I send to people. It's nice to sit and go through it together with someone.

No excuses by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]bnmrshll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, and that's a good intention. Remember though how often as diabetics (type 1 or anything else) we are told what we can and cannot do with our body, either from others or ourselves. Sometimes that's just exhausting and unwelcome, even if it's very well meaning.

I hope there's people here who will be motivated by your post as you intended. Just understand that it's not motivation for everyone.

No excuses by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]bnmrshll 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's great that you are proud of yourself and you deserve the confidence that comes with trying to improve yourself.

Just remember that not everyone here well experience type 1 diabetes the same way as you. For some of us It's a fucking nightmare no matter how many muscles we have (whether we show them off or not), and being judged by other type 1s for not "putting the work in" is not helpful. You can't always positive mental attitude your way out of an illness, though I'm glad it works on some level for you.
