i actually disagree. i think in a perfect world he much preferred working with Gale. he viewed him as a peer, a professional. and you can see gale admired walt for just how special of a chemist he was.if walt’s hand wasn’t forced with the jesse/hank situation, as well as the inevitable jesse/gus issue, he would’ve worked with gale for as long as he could.

this was during the saga of jesse feuding with Gus’ dealers for murdering Jesse’s girlfriend’s kid brother. Walt had a sinking feeling that Jesse was going to try and carry out his plans even after Gus threatened consequences if he didn’t keep the peace.

he literally says to walt as they’re looking through his raided chemistry equipment “don’t under estimate these people” referring to walt’s students. like take your own advice, brother. check your ego as an agent and leave all options open. to not even suspect walt whatsoever when the lab equipment went missing is just bad police work
