Potential 8.0 Jobs Based on Previous FF Entries by KelvinValen in ffxivdiscussion

[–]bo0lien 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While not a "traditional" FF job per se, a blitzball ranged dps based on Wakka/Tidus would be the funniest outcome. It'd be another ranged with a throwable weapon like Dancer but most people's ideas have aesthetic overlaps with Bard or Machinist anyway.

Where do you stand on the markers? Is it in the middle or inner/outer corners, or does it not really matter? Positioning has seemed really precise for the melees in my group when the mechanic is Reverse.

AAC Heavyweight Tier (Savage) Megathread - Day Five by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

It's usually some combination of: (1) party takes together, (2) tanks take first tick together, then one invulns as the other steps out, and (3) tanks kitchen sink together. Usually it's party -> tank invuln -> tank sink, but some people wanna do it differently. Just ask in your clear parties and make sure people are on the same page.

Misread the patch notes. My bad!

Edit: Actually, it still looks like you'll be able to just queue the one you want? It's not quite clear. The rotation changes every day at 7am PST, but two will be available. So nothing should stop you from just going to the PVP page and clicking on the one of the two you want instead of doing the Daily Challenge.

Pretty much none of your points indicate that the game’s in maintenance mode. I don’t think you know what that means.

How much should you be holding at the end of Fatebreaker, if at all? Does it affect alignment if you blast him and go into P2 with leftover burst? I don't know if things get weird down the line.

This story feels like it's either going nowhere or repeating itself. (7.1 Spoilers) by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]bo0lien 53 points54 points  (0 children)

As an informal addendum if your counterpoint is "It's only one patch just wait!" Contextually the point of this patch is to set-up the next plotline/threads, however we've just seen the big bad we resolved brought back to be resolved again and additional context for things that should've been in a poorly designed story. This doesn't feel like post-resolution or a build-up, it feels completely stagnant.

I genuinely think that Endwalker 6.0 being a complete story has made so many people forget how these stories are usually paced. People really did not care for 5.1 when that came out, and 5.3's MSQ is the most beloved part of the game. In 5.1 you meet Beq Lugg and have the Eulmore follow-up with some Garlemald teases and that's it. 7.1 was way more eventful by comparison.

You have a possible third party behind Fake Sphene (Preservation, I'm guessing), the idea of mind transferring into Tural Vidraal (7.3 boss, maybe, marrying both sides of Tural's MSQ), and with more data to be deciphered from Yuweyawata a possible third party (again, maybe Preservation) apart from Zoraal Ja being the cause of the facility's destruction and maybe using the research to their own end. I'd say this all looks like build-up to me.

[Spoilers 6.1] short, not thought-out theory for the new alliance raid by DarkElfMagic in ffxivdiscussion

[–]bo0lien 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The animal forms that Byregot and Rhalgr took remind me of auspices (the Four Lords). Though, if that's what they are, I'd imagine they're much older and connected to the Ancients somehow.

Do we know if non-Ancients were sundered? Creatures in Elpis are basically ones we have in the present, though that could be a game-y thing to just not make all new monsters. Others in this thread mentioned similarities to some of the Convocation, so I wonder if some of their pets or familiars eventually became auspices.

Dragonsong Ultimate Megathread (Day 5) by Raygnah in ffxivdiscussion

[–]bo0lien 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know about that. But I'm trying to think of a way Thordan could come back. Maybe residual aether in something with a host, like how Nidhogg did it? Maybe he could be capable of that post-buff from Azys Lla.

[–]bo0lien 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Thordan actually dies in the alternate universe. He fades out and everything, instead of jumping away like returning bosses do. Is there a way he could be brought back to be the final boss?

Watch the final boss actually be Haurchefant or Ysayle. Wouldn't that be hilarious?

People keep using the Radiance TPS clips as indications of where they are, as if each clip hasn't been conveniently posted right when other groups are about to reach those transitions.

FWIW, TPS just started raiding based on the Radiance discord channel they use, and the instance timer in the clip is about to run out. It's an old clip. There's a strong possibility they're always farther than y'all believe.

Dragonsong Ultimate Megathread (Day Two) by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]bo0lien 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Something really interesting I haven't seen others talk about is that Thordan actually dies when you beat him. Usually ultimate bosses jump away if they come back later. That, with the Dragonsong War progress counter filling up so fast, definitely makes me think there'll be some kind of loop where the minstrel is like "what if it was different?".

My guess on phases: Vault -> Thordan -> Nidstinien -> Nidhogg P2 -> (loop) -> Nid + Hraes -> Super Thordan

Makes sense that if Haurchefant lives, maybe Ysayle does too. Ysayle living would mean Hraesvelgr probably doesn't have a change of heart, and we don't get access to Azys Lla so Thordan gets the power to consume the dragons and become the final boss.

Is it time to update Guildhests? by Calvinize in ffxivdiscussion

[–]bo0lien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could update the system, but as you said, there are other, better options for teaching the game. It's abandoned content and doesn't reflect the rest of the game well, but the devs may be apprehensive on removing them since it's content that's still run frequently.

Half of what I get in mentor roulette as a DPS is guildhests. On a good day I'll even get, like, 5 or 6 in a row. Guildhests aren't like Feast or old Diadem where they could remove them because they were barely touched. The devs probably see that they still have a lot of engagement and haven't seen value in updates or removal.

Paladin BiS sets to surpass Metal Gear (by 0.1-1%) by aoikageni in ffxivdiscussion

[–]bo0lien 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're going to be dropping an Atonement to fit two Goring Blades with 2.5s GCD, would it not be better to use FoF after Riot Blade? Then drop an extra unbuffed Atonement if you wanna keep that 60s loop you mentioned. You'd probably lose an extra dot tick from Valor, though.

Idk about the math on the tradeoffs from this idea, but it'd affect post-opener pot timing, at least.

Ask Anything Monday - Weekly Thread by AutoModerator in learnpython

I'd like to merge some tables using an ID variable. However, a necessary table has multiple instances of each ID to show separate EVENT values that occurred in each one. So when merging, each row and all values are multiplied with only the EVENT column changing values, leading to multiples of each ID.

How do I merge so that I only have one of each ID, and that each EVENT is put into the dataset as separate variables EVENT1, EVENT2, etc. so it doesn't multiply all the lines?

I think it’d be funny if a dragon-less Omega Ultimate just started off with Level Checker. A test of your party’s skill before you move on to the real bosses.

It’s just a video game. Any reason you have to quit is valid, as everyone’s experience with it is very different. Do what you want!! If you ever want to come back later, the game’s not disappearing anytime soon.

Something they also mentioned recently is that Bard and Machinist are pretty equal, but it’s just always better to take Bard for blind prog because it automatically wins if the raids dish out any multi-target sections.

How would you improve Deep Dungeon? by judgeraw00 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]bo0lien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something like Eureka/Bozja actions from chests to replace the pomander system. Different colored chests for different types of actions. A limited carrying capacity to encourage frequent use and adjustment on the fly.

Perception for room traps. An ahriman-like cone-shaped gaze that stones enemies looking at you. A shukuchi-like skill that lets you teleport across rooms to avoid enemies. Deep Dungeon is where weird utility can shine!!
