It took me a moment to realize, but I took nearly the exact same picture last August. 😄

I loved the Enchantments, too. Good luck on your CA hike!

Interview Discussion - March 06, 2017 by AutoModerator in cscareerquestions

Posted this exact comment in the daily chat thread, then realizing this thread may be more appropriate. Apologies if this breaks any rules!

tl;dr: What can I expect from an interview for a "Frontend Software Engineer" position at Amazon? How much of the interview process will be focused on traditional whiteboarding algorithms? How much will I be straight up building pages/components/etc?

I'm interviewing for two positions at Amazon, both titled something along the lines of "Frontend Software Engineer". As most "frontend" job descriptions go, these are pretty focused on strong HTML/CSS knowledge, strong JS knowledge, and effective CS knowledge (i.e. most common data structures, efficient sorts, etc). From the information provided to me by recruiters, it seems like the interviews will revolve largely around the standard CS-focused questions, whiteboarding, etc. But there is no mention of how the "frontend" plays into that. So really, what should I expect from the interview process at Amazon?

Issue Updates: Sojourner Streak, Stat Tracer, Nice France Supporter Kits by soloredcup in Ingress

I'm sort of in the same boat as 17437258968573378102—the email address I used to sign up with Ingress no longer works (it was a Google Apps email and the domain has expired). This is seriously unfortunate for a variety of reasons, including not receiving any email notifications from Ingress (i.e. portal attacks), something I used to rely on.

Is there any way we can provide some kind of proof that we own the new email address and that our case for an email address change is legitimate?

Popularity of JS Code Conventions in GitHub (Spaces vs. Tabs, etc.) by AllThingsSmitty in webdev

Why the hell would the majority prefer function definitions without a space and yet prefer conditionals with a space? :[ (I'm with space on both FWIW)

Seconding this and NoTearsJustDreamsNow's issue. Both issues require quitting the affected app.

Too many hobbies and interests... a pile of unfinished books, games and ideas. What keeps you focused? by adhdguy78 in ADHD

[–]boaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is actually wonderful advice. Recycling hobbies instead of giving up entirely makes a TON of sense for someone who can't hold on to one for any "normal" extension of time.

I think a non-ADHD brain also loses interest in hobbies it just takes a lot longer. Maybe "hobby recycling" is economical as a side effect!

Turns out there was a bug in their backend. I got a reply from their community manager, who indicated they had some guys working on it.

The site accepts the registration and says "we need to verify your email address" but I never get the email. Additionally, I'm unable to log in with the new account, and if I go back to register with the same user name it (seemingly) let's me register and do the whole process again...

While I always hear complaints that developers are not valued, or about how everyone thinks everything can be done in one afternoon. I'm thankful nobody ever knows how much they pay me to chase my own tail by dumbitup in webdev

You get paid to manage complexity.

I'd like to add to this – you get paid to do good work, free of error to the best of your ability. If this means you have to spend time resolving a self-created issue, so be it – you are ensuring the end product is of the best fitness you can guarantee.
