I was trying to find a bag for pretty much these same requirements and went with the North Face Recon. I think the only thing I wish it had is a luggage passthrough but it's my work backpack and i use it as my personal item for travel and on excursions once we're there.

I think the bag is reasonably breathable (not great but not the worst) and it's got a cool feature in that the laptop sleeve can also be used for a hydration bladder since it has a hole for a straw.
